This song gives an accurate discreption of how many addicts feel. My father has been an alcoholic for over 20 years & still is unfortunately. He's sober most of the time but then he'll binge drink for 5 days straight & not go to work or leave his room. I've talked to him about it & he says he gets this urge to drink so he can relax & not have anxiety. I know people have it a lot worse & this song brings to light a sad subject. Tool is such an amazing band, Rock on.

Here's my interpretation: he is talking about a personal dogma. During the second verse he is speaking from the perspective of the dogma and how it looks good but leaves you empty inside, "I will work to elevate you, just eniugh to bring you down." He puts forth a question "Why can't we not be sober?" which is asking why we can't be free of these dogmas. "I am just a worthless liar." Is saying how he is undoubtably guilty of it too. The Jesus reference is asking why there isn't anything new.

This song gives an accurate discreption of how many addicts feel. My father has been an alcoholic for over 20 years & still is unfortunately. He's sober most of the time but then he'll binge drink for 5 days straight & not go to work or leave his room. I've talked to him about it & he says he gets this urge to drink so he can relax & not have anxiety. I know people have it a lot worse & this song brings to light a sad subject. Tool is such an amazing band, Rock on.

I'd like to just say that I'm Mormon & I LOVE Tool, A Perfect Circle, Disturbed & tons of other music. Not all "religious people" are stuck up/crazy. Promise. My branch pres. knows how to play Schism on his guitar & listens to Nirvana among other things. Lol. I fell in love w/ these bands before I became a member of the church & I still love them. I've been criticized by some members for it but the majority accept it as part of who I am & don't condemn me for my taste.

Here's my interpretation: he is talking about a personal dogma. During the second verse he is speaking from the perspective of the dogma and how it looks good but leaves you empty inside, "I will work to elevate you, just eniugh to bring you down." He puts forth a question "Why can't we not be sober?" which is asking why we can't be free of these dogmas. "I am just a worthless liar." Is saying how he is undoubtably guilty of it too. The Jesus reference is asking why there isn't anything new.
