  • Please realize that being in a wheelchair isn't something bad. You shouldn't be saying "well were better off to be having this instead of being in a wheelchair etc etc etc".... Gee thanks how does that make us feel?. I have Spina Bifida, and I am as well off as anyone.

  • i have albinism and i have face some of the same challanges, and i also am able to drive, and i see that he played goalball, i was on an advanced tean that i played at Texas School For The Blind And Visually Impared, and i'm extrenky happy a mom can tell her side of having a child with albinism

  • @sasukewife15, How interesting! Have you played beepball? It is always funny when the Braille students play against the sighted kids, and kick their butts.

  • @rattypajamas

no i have not but one of my friends plays for the San Antonio team

  • great video. I think your number was a little too low. it is actually 1 in 17,000 not 10,000. Someone else may have caught that but again great video, It is very informative.

  • Hello! I also have a 3 year old son with albinism. Thank you for your story, I have really experienced a lot of the same things that you have. How well does your son see? 20/200? better or worse? Does this change from year to year? Thanks! God bless you for sharing your story!

  • What an amazing video. Everything you said was identical to my experiences with my daughter Sally in England. She has just been to the NOAH conference in Washington D C

  • I liked the way you talked about the positive side of this situation. The only thing I really disliked was the stereotype toward blind people. I have met quite a few blind people in my lifetime and some of them walk around town with a cane and thats all (I live in a large city as well). One example of this is my uncle, who lost his eyes in an accident, he walks with the aid of a dog but doesn't wish to have the help of another human. Another example is my best friend's mother, who acts the same.

  • I LOVED the video!

It's just so informative and so sweet... only a mom can do that =)

    Congratulations! loved it.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I'm 18 and I have albinism. It brought me to tears to grasp a bit of how it is to be a parent of a child with albinism.

Your son reminds me a lot of myself growing up.. I was quite a risk taker though. I rode bikes (often into things... but hey, I learned where everything was.. the hard way. haha)

My own mother worked very hard to make my life as normal as possible, and I'm also in the public school system.

Thank you again for posting your story. =)

  • I'm not sure actually how old your son is now versus in the video but i would siggest looking into boptic driving. It saved my life and gave me a lot of hope in high school and now in college as I am reaching the finish line to getting my license especially since the doctors told me it would never happen. My aquity is 20/200 and I qualify so it would definitely be something to look into. Let me know if you need any more info!

  • Just curious. Have you ever heard of a program called Zoom Text? It's a screen magnification program for computers running on Windows. You mentioned in you video that your son has to get his really close to the computer screen. Anyway, screen magnification programs help a lot. I use the one that came with my computer.

  • Yes, we have that on our computers. Zoom text is great! Thank you for mentioning that.

  • Your son is so cute! I wish you guys the best. :)

  • Thank you. I like your Anime. Did you create them yourself?

  • oh yes. I have voiceacting help though.

    =)

  • This is pretty good I'm albino and don't face the things that he does my sight.. I'm actually blessed... but I understand.

  • Wow, I see by your profile that you have a lot of different interests: Digital Scrapbooking, Media Ministry, Photoshop, Asian Scrapbooking, Hawaiian and tropical scrapbooking. You are a busy person!

  • Good job, I've been looking for info on albinism since I started writing a story about a little girl with it, and this answered a lot of my questions.

  • this video i do like. its well done. and things that needed to be said. but i feel like its narrated to a 2 year old. i'ed feel people would think illy of the intelligence of the video

  • Since you have albinism, you have already heard these things many times. However, a person who is just starting to learn about albinism may not know nor understand the terminology.

Thank-you for your concern, but I believe people will see the video for what it is, somebody trying to spread information in a way that is understandable to people of all ages.

  • Ahhhhhhhhhhh

  • awesome vid

  • Thank-you.

  • aaww hes so adorable as a baby and is a handsome young man now i like the sims and computers too i love Final fantasy and Kingdome hearts and iv seen Willie in his videos hes cute and seems a relly nice guy good luck to him

  • Willie and I are EXACTLY alike! I have albinism, I play the sims all the time and I love the computer! Wow...we are really alike! I had the same issues with GT, I am sarcastic, I can't drive...this is insane! I love it :D

  • This was a wonderful video thanks for sharing.

    Greg P

  • Good job Mom. I too have full albinism. I appreciate hearing these stories, and YouTube is a great tool for sharing like you have done here. Thanks. Will K, Lynchburg VA

  • A very informative video! Willie's 'challenges' are constant, and even with the video, it's hard to imagine, 'dealing' with his condition, especially at his age. How can one's heart, not go out, to children such as these! It's nice to know Willie has a loving and supportive family! May God keep you all in His Love! :c)

  • Yes, he is a joy to be around.

  • Nice video.

What is his vision? I'm at 20/200 corrected.

I do ride a bike in town. It can be hard on sunny days.

Does he wear glasses? Most pictures do seem to show him in glasses.

If you want to read a really good report on Albinism google Dr. King Facts about albinism

  • You know, I just noticed, but the young lad right next to Willie looks like he just sat on a pin and got up really suddenly. :-D

    Hehe

  • Oh... and Willie's baby pictures are soooo adorable! :D - Don't tell him I said that, he'll kill me... Lol.

  • lol i wont i have seen thise video before Willie is so cute and an adorable babyhell be a handsom young man when he gets older
