More likely we'd need to place restrictions on the amount of wood sold each year. Saying they can't sell any is stupid because they do grow some trees for the soul purpose of being cut down. But yeah, it would be one hell of a huge restriction on sales.

The Amazon is not only in Brazil but also in Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, Suriname, and Guyana, so the problem of the Amazon is also the problem of these countries as well as the rest of the world. According to WikiLeaks, at least 5 million illegal abortions had been occured here in the last 30 years, but the risks are overly greater only to low and low middle income women. In our country India, lot of timber is being imported from african and amazon rainforests.
Particularly in southern india, there are timber yards where hundreds and thousands of tonnes of timber are stored.
It looks like all the trees in the jungle, once standing tall alive and green are now lying dead in the parched brown ground.

The only way the elite will change is when we screw with their cash cow which is funded by us. Boycott big business. Support local mom and pop stores. Pull your money out of banks esp. bailed out banks. Peruse credit unions if you must need a bank account. Vote for progressive 3rd party candidates even if they are not supported or funded by big business and even when they are not on the ballot. We need dramatic price reduction with dramatic increase in workers wages.

More likely we'd need to place restrictions on the amount of wood sold each year. Saying they can't sell any is stupid because they do grow some trees for the soul purpose of being cut down. But yeah, it would be one hell of a huge restriction on sales.

I lived in the amazons for 1 year and its incredible how greedy motherf,.... are really killing the forest. You can see thousands of trees being chopped down and all for nothing

The Amazon is not only in Brazil but also in Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, Suriname, and Guyana, so the problem of the Amazon is also the problem of these countries as well as the rest of the world. Besides, Brazil is doing a damn poor job of protecting the Amazon, with the Trans-Amazonian highway. If Brazil ileft alone to deal with the problems of the Amazon, the whole jungle will be turned into pastureland and farmland

Actually gordonleed, most of the destruction is from locals using slash and burn farming. They slash and burn a plot, then when it is used up they slash and burn another and so on. I just had a class on this in college.

MOST of the deforestation of the Amazon forest is due to the greed of the Western economy and the stupidly misguided quest for bio-fuels. There isno use blaming th epeople of Brazil...it is US,,,the USA and Europe who are fuelling this devastation with ever increasing demands ofr soya and palm oil. WE have already alternatives to fossil fuels...hydrogen...the only emissions from htdrogen powered vehicles is H0O...plain water...work on it and leave the forests alone

Also, rainforest are very important for rainfall, which is very important. for example, the Amazon rainforest produces much of the rain for the agrigbussiness in Brazil and Argentina. Also deforestation accounts for 20 % of total carbon emissions. Because of this governments and bussinesses are realising the importance of rainforests, and that the world has to pay for these services, just as you would have to pay for your electricity bill.

Most of the clearing is used for soy bean fields and cattle production. Most of the soy grown is used in feeding beef cattle. There are a lot of products produced with soy. This is sad and scary.

If we start to plant some trees in our own countries by 2020 we can maybe have the 20% supply we need of oxygen! I am brazilian and live in USA but we are not allowed to plant trees wherever we want to in here. There are huge fields of grass in each condo and just a few trees planted.
