  • Yes! You must kneel before the almighty Doc!

  • @playingguitarorange I think it was one of Chet Atkins songs called "Telling my troubles to my old guitar"

  • um ,,,wow ,,,Doc eh ,,,,blown away man ,,,huge fan ,,thankyou ,,peace

  • I am so blessed to be a distant cousin of Doc, I myself have been playing guitars almost my entire life and no doubt Doc will forever be in the top of the world's guitar players and in all the years I have seen him play live and on his recordings, none of us that play guitar will never match him, Chet Atkins who Doc has played with among countless musicians , was asked once what style Doc played and he commented that Doc Watson played Doc Watson style

  • hey guys, fans of Doc Watson should definitely check out Kent Gustavson's new book, "Blind But Now I See, The Biography of Music Legend Doc Watson " @ his Facebook page, "Doc Watson Book".

  • @phyzionzero

    Thank you very much for posting that. Will check it out. Sounds like a must for any fan of Doc's music.

  • This would be great in mp3 :O

  • Wow great to see him in this format. The guitar sounds great. But Doc is playing it. He could make any guitar sound great. Thanks for putting this on here!

  • Thanks for sharing this. I've seen Doc live a few times, and he never fails to put on a great show. As a Carolina boy, I never get tired of Doc

  • Doc has an unbelieveable ear. I saw him backstage at a bluegrass festival in Alabama back in the early 70's. Some guy brought over an old Martin D-28 and told Doc that he he'd had a problem with the guitar sounding "numb", even with new strings. Doc played the guitar for maybe 5 minutes and asked the fellow if he'd had the guitar near 'heat'. The guy told him that he normally kept the guitar right beside his bedroom heater at home. Doc told him to store it somewhere else cuz that was the problem

  • No love button, so I'll settle for like.

    That guitar's tone is magical. Mister Hernderson, you are simply the man, thanks for bringing this guitar alive.

  • Amazing how Doc and Wayne's artwork can merge and complement each other so perfectly. I'm in awe of both of these craftsmen!

  • I had the privilege as a teenager to perform with Doc Watson. He has been one of my guitar pickin' style inspirations.

  • I have been privileged to hear Doc twice in concert, and both times were among the musical highlights of my life. Those of you who do not know his music, please check into his 1960s recordings for the old Vanguard folk label. Especially wonderful is "Live on Stage," with his late son Merle. Well, what can be said about this treasure of a man? His taste, time and technique are inpeccable. There ain't too many folks who can yodel well, either!

  • Check out this old man. 87 and blind and just pickin' away with his new custom made guitar. Doc is the eighth wonder of the world.

  • sweet and warm. his palying makes me smile :)

  • The song was written in 1945 by my father Don Weston. Doc did a great job on it. Brings back a lot of memories.

  • The song Tell'in My Troubles to my old Guitar was written by my father Don Weston in 1945. Doc did a great job. Brings back a lot of memorys.

  • That are the just styl music great man

    Cheers

    William

  • I hate to state the obvious. But... Doc, The Rev Gary Davis and Stevie Wonder. What do they have in common? How would they accompany each other? I wonder. we have a blind systems analyst at work who came to a meeting the other day and complimented the boss on his tan. Ha!

  • Doc Watson is one of my favorite guitar pickers of all time, along with Tommy Emmanuel and chet and merleToo!

  • Wonderful!

  • Fat tone, for sure.

  • Did Doc have to wait 4 years for his?

  • He sure built an amazing guitar for doc. The bass is very even without overpowering things at all. Just perfect!

  • What I'd give to sit in on that.

  • @jameswilliamjones You just did mate :-)

  • MERCY!!

  • Oh to be able to playand sing like that.....

  • I've seen Doc live and had him autograph my Alvarez guitar and instantly after I let him hold it he knew it was an Alvarez. Saying, " This feels like my old Alvarez," The man is magical i every way.

  • @Benj888

    That is pretty awesome! I saw him at a musical festival years ago when i was not very familiar with his stuff, have been listening ever since

  • This isn't even my kind of music... but hes awesome lol.

  • That guitar sounds so sweet...thank you Wayne for bringing it out of the tree...

  • he does

  • Doc was awesome at Merlefest this year! He only gets better with time.....

  • Doc have the God`s touch,he`s amazing!!

    The music is in your soul!

  • no tabs yet? :\

  • Will I be shot on sight if I bring an Ovation to Merlefest?

  • You won't be shot, but you'll be stuck lugging it around all day! My brother ended up bringing his "goodtime" banjo after one day of carrying around his heavy Deering.

  • what about a FirstAct?

  • hahahaha you know it!

  • my uncle has a henderson made by wayne henderson, it's pretty sweet

  • wish i could have gone when Old Crow Medicine Show was there.

  • Can't wait for Merlefest.....

  • flatpikinguitar - "yeah,the new martins are good, but the old martins are some of the best sounding guitars Ive ever heard."

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You do know that this isn't a Martin guitar he's playing............don't you? It's a Henderson - the best damn guitar on the planet!
  • my uncle has one!
  • Yes...that is the phrase of a lifetime..telling my troubles to my old guitar, that sums it up friends....great
  • YEA!
    Doc is a LIVING LEGEND!
  • Awesome, thanks for posting this gem.
  • This man is the king of picking guitar players and should be celebrated in every way possible,ride on doc!!
  • Doc is one of the best, always will be.  Beautiful playing as always.
  • Simply amazing. I wish I could make my Zager sing like that.
  • the title is "Tellin my troubles to my ol' guitar".
  • Amazing. Does anyone know the title of this song?
  • Does Doc know he's being recorded? Anyway...love, love, love it!!!!!
  • i could go on and on but i think that Wayne Henderson has to be one of the worlds best luthiers today and ever i have wanted a Henderson guitar of my own since i first picked up the book about it, and yes i agree that you should take a look at Claptons Guitar its a great read and gives so much information
    thanks
    kyle-west virginia
  • Doc's playing brightens my day.. thank you for being a true inspiration
  • Doc is a vertebrae in the backbone of American music. He and Merle were a premier family musical act. Just plain wonderful...Thanks Doc.
  • Notice his jeans are rolled up. Is he going to grow more? It is just so cool that he has no cares other than perfecting a new song that he has created. That is what its all about.
  • he didn't create this song. I think it was written by the Johnson Family Singers and Chet Atkins also did it in 47.
  • I did not mean to imply that he wrote the song, more that he changed it to his style. Thanks for the info on the Johnson Family
  • @cgallamo no problem I just wanted to get out there the Johnson Family Singers plug :)
  • That's so f'n beautiful!
  • the book Clapton's Guitar is an amazing book with so many little peripheral stories. check it out if you haven't yet. it brings wayne henderson's shop to life. a great read!
  • i want to learn this song
  • Priceless. Super. Fantastic-
    Thanks for posting this. It s unbeliveable playing and singing. Amazing.
  • How cool is this..... Two masters in their fields sharing and creating together for all of us to enjoy... This is lifes good stuff.
  • whats the name of this song ?very nice song
  • amazing man
  • ohhh my God, this man still singe better than most young singers, he owns this kind of music. GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT MUSIC
  • after all these years he's still tight and fantastic with his playing...
  • That's an early Chet Atkins vocal and picking tune from the late 40's.
  • what is the name of it?!
  • TELLING MY TROUBLES TOO MY OLE GUITAR I play this on my piano I think? :)
  • does anyone know the chords that he's using on that piece, I can sort of play that style ( very rudementary style I have) and I'd like to add that type of song to my repretoire (sp).
  • I love to play with these guys. I play with Wayne all the time and have played with Doc before and im only 15!
  • fiddle by the way.
  • its a chet atkins tune you slags
  • but it is, there is a jack
  • I started to say that it sounds electrified and, indeed, it is......by his talent!!!
  • Remembering Doc from The Back Door in Montreal, early 70's...And Wayne from Expo '67, Man and His World...bob
  • Doc Watson, and all that he delivers, captures the essence of what makes me grateful to be a fellow North Carolinian. His voice is the pinnacle of crispness, and if Southern life had a narrator, he would certainly be it.
  • hes the greatest, i love him, i wish he would be my grandfather and teach me the guitar...
  • cubix don't bother looking for it doc style is not duplicabile
  • damn, this song is brilliant
  • For the most part its a basic circle of fifths
  • does anyone know the chords he play?
  • the A part is E,G#7,C#7,F#7,B7,E and the B part(the part where he sings "darlin I love you..." is E,E7,A,F#7,B7 and then repeats the A part one time. Of course as most travis pickers like doc do to play in E he capos at the 4th fret and plays in C so the chords go C,E7,A7,D7,and G7 and then C,C7,F,D7,G7 respectively
  • does anyone know where i can find the arrangement to this?
  • I checked out the prices on them there Henderson guitars.....YIKES ! Doc makes em sing.
  • wow, I can't believe I found this on youtube. Fantastic video, I love doc watson and he's playing a Henderson, the finest guitar I've ever heard.
  • Thank you for sending Dave... So very Cool, What a fantastic Video~  Love this~
  • personaly i like martin and bourgeois
  • I've heard Wayne play both, his own, and his Martins. He used to work in a repair shop, and learned how the old Martins are made, and thats how he makes his. But you probably know this?
    Take care!
    David
  • yeah,the new martins are good, but the old martins are some of the best sounding guitars Ive ever heard.
  • Goosebump material. A master guitarist playing a masterfully built guitar. Such sweet sounds.
  • Beautiful !!! it's nice to see Doc in a pair of jeans,being a jeans fan myself, playing a different guitar is not always easily done (it just feels weird)but he's a master go Doc go !!!!
  • I wonder why this isn't one of the premier videos on the main page. If someone knows the name of this song and artist I would love to here from them.
  • This is the good doctor. Arthel Watson. Better known as Doc. The song is Telling my troubles to my old guitar.
  • That's so f'n beautiful! ...this is one of the greatest videos on all of YouTube! - Doc is the MAN! - Thanks for this!
  • Does anyone know the name of the song he's playing?
    He's really the best guitar player in the world.
  • This guy should be recognized for the national treasure that he is!
  • Docs awesome, but why did he plug it in?
  • at least he picked it up.
  • Doc's version is much more touching than Chet's...
    I keep coming back to this, and it warms my heart each time. And let's say I can empathize with the lyrics very much...
  • Is playing like this a gift from god or practice, cause i been playing for 30 years and i aint even close to Doc.
  • Training =) And a little gift from god :P
  • welcome to the club! I really like his guitar playing, and for those who DIDN'T know, the guy is blind, which makes it even more amazing the way he plays. awesome!
  • doc could play a "dickwood guitar" and make it sound great!
  • I can just picture me saying "Here Doc, play this piece of dog shit with strings on it" and he starts picking out "Blue Smoke" or something lmfao
  • its wayne hendersons shop, there is no shitty guitars to be found there.
    and if you handed doc a piece of shit to play he would hand it right back soon as it was strummed.
  • My uncle built my guitar and it passes the Wayne Henderson match test.Put a burning match in front of the hole & tap the back & the match goes out.
  • Guitarman1968 - My uncle built my guitar and it passes the Wayne Henderson match test.Put a burning match in front of the hole & tap the back & the match goes out.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    What are you smokin? I want some!

  • My John Arnold custom is a good one too. You can put a match in front of the soundhole and strike a guitar and it will light the match. lol

  • Yea, I know Wayne makes good guitars.

  • Watson is a god among men. My mother just seen him last year and got his john handcock. He's, how do you put it. . . epic?

  • somebody should also mention; That is a fine instrument! Luthiers should be recognized the same as the musician, they both depend on eachother

  • Went to the "Walnut Valley Festival," in Winfield, Kansas a few years ago, all the great guitar contestants had Henderson's.

  • There's never gonna be another one like him! - Go to see him play live EVERY chance you possibly get!

  • I live very close to Wayne Henderson. Hes the best picker around

  • This is 'Telling My Troubles To My Old Guitar', from a Chet Atkins single released when Chet was singing, I guess in the '40s or early '50s. Doc is right on it.

  • It is the first time i hear watson playing, i am amazed

  • at my very first guitar lesson, my teacher and i just sat there and listened to doc

  • doc is my hero...is this tune on any of his albums??

    i dont think i have this song in my collection

  • the song isn't on any album I've seen (And I have about 30 or so of his), but it could be on one.

  • wayne and doc are two of my biggest inspirations

  • It doesn't get any better than this !

  • There´s a DVD Video from Vestapol number 13004.

    Titeld, Legends of Traditional Fingerstyle Guitar.

    It has some great stuff on it. Good Luck LB.

  • Doc is great. Good to know he is still active after all these years.
