English speaking Afrikaners are married to or Afrikaans anscestors and relations. Indeed many Afrikaners have British surnames or are leading families in the Afrikaner community such as the Kingsley's, Haxton's, Williams's, Smith's , Ballot's, Macdonald's, Jones's, Symington's, McLaren's, Nicol's, Murray 's ect ect ect.
Whackheads Mother is an Afrikaans speaking Afrikaner and his father is an English speaking Afrikaner (whose second language. Whackhead is crap at Afrikaans because he never bothered to pay attention at home or in school. All English speaking and Afrikaners are bilingual in Afrikaans & English and nearlly all

Would anyone be kind enough to provide a transcript (in Afrikaans) of Whackhead's first joke (the fridge running one)? I'm in the process of learning Afrikaans, and I'm trying to figure out the words here. All I can figure out are lines like "Ek bel van is kom", "is jou ys _____ looping" and "Well gaan vang om!"
@Deinonychosauria: And I'm even in doubt here as to the correctness of those few lines I've transcribed. It seems to me that his Afrikaans isn't totally correct, even in the first joke. But I'm a learner, so the assistance of a fluent Afrikaans speaker would be most appreciated. :D
@Deinonychosauria He says 'Ek bel van Eskom' (the electricity company - I'm not from SA, but remember the name of it) 'Ek bel van' doesn't sound right - in Dutch 'ik bel uit' but may or may not be the same in Afrikaans.
How can he be a racist if he's making fun of his own race? On top of that, he's not making fun of Afrikaaners as much as he is trying to tell a crappy joke in crappy Afrikaans. Although he has made fun of Afrikaaners on occasion, but then again, it's all in jest!
I was laughing my way through a few of these videos.... Then I realised that most of them are about Afrikaans people, which is what I am! Not that the fact is even relevant.
Then I got thinking....
Has he only got one joke? Hence, he isn't funny - he's just a DICK.
Would it be OK if ALL his jokes were focused on laughing at coloured people? I very much doubt it.... Slightly ironic, the whole thing.
Jou ma sal baie trots wees op jou taalgebruik.........miskien nie miskien praat sy ook soos jy, kan nie n grappie vat nie maar vir jare trek jy vir Jan van der Merwe en die Engelsman deur jou gat.
Jack Daniels in the bottle is nice one. I made someting like that in my country there is a coffeebrand called Douwe Egberts which is also a first name and subname just calling people ''Mr Egberts. Hey is Douwe at home?'' some really don't get it
Ek weet nie, maar ek nie eens comment wat ek wil se... Ek laaik Whackhead, maar hy moet ophou met sy kak om ons Arikaanse te spot, want ek ek gaan om bliksem
I've work for several months in Capetown and I could understand Afrikaans for 85%. Reading Afrikaans was easier for me 98%. Before I went to SA I never had any lessons or training of Afrikaans, but I could communicate in(slow)Dutch and the Afrikaans speakers can understand me.
Most words are the same and has the same meaning, but there is a differents in spelling and grammar.
So if they would change their spelling back to dutch, the dutch language sphere and market for books and such could expand to what, around 40 million people? Or is it to long since those languages were separated for that? When was it separated, where it already a different language when the spelling was changed or was it done to create a Zuid-Afrikaans national identity separate from dutch one?
As a speaker of a rare language by all means be proud of it and preserve it, weather in two or one.
Afrikaans is 17th century Dutch. It was then spoken by sailers from the Dutch East Company and spoken by setlers from rural areas from the Netherlands. Most setlers were farmers. Afrikaans today is similar like a lot of Netherlands en Flemisch dialects in rural areas. Standard Dutch in the Netherlands is introduce in 1945. The Netherlands has a lot of dialects. And because the province of Holland was always an economical power, the standard language became 'Hollands'.
The standard dutch, has a lot of infleunce from French, German and English. And sum words from Indonesia/Malaysia. Afrikaans however has always battled agains the English language. And it was seperate from Holland for centuries, because the Boers moved to the African inlands. Afrikaans has also sum Indonesia/Malaysia influance because the Dutch East Company had a lot of slaves from that areas. For Afrikaners it's difficult to understand Dutch grammar. for Dutchman to Afrikaans it's verry easy.
its also Quite easy for German speakers to undertand this if you come from the boarder areas :- for example i speak Tweensen and can understand what he says! Adrikaans is easy to comprehend but difficult to replyin!
Dis Hoeveld se verdiende loon omdat hulle so teen Afrikaans is. Ek is bly nie een van die persone op die foon het geval vir hulle grappies nie. Siestog Hoeveld probeer iets anders.

How is it generally, do afrikaaner and dutch understand each other easily or only some phrases and words?
