@LevitskiSRGE is right, the idea was to control the audiences view. The audience at first thinks he's Hungry.. then he's a pervert. The video of him never changes Just the BRoll played with his video changes.

In Kuleshov's case the viewer thinks the face might have been changed after the previous one, but it doesn't. The trick is to have no references which would identify that it's in fact the same image.
