Not being able to come across the full version of this before now has been the most confounding thing about the internet that I've ever encountered. I knew some hero would eventually come along. Thank you. Sincerely. I can die in peace.
LMFAO!!!!!! This popped into my head this morning and I LOL'd... Hate to admit it but I actually remember the words! WOW! Is all I have to say, see how long your childhood scars stay with you?!!!!
So who was Chow Daddy? Did that Tiger actually come to your school and do the moonwalk? Was it a catering service? It doesn't just seem like a PSA it seems like an ad for some "Chow Daddy" service.
I know the whole "1 person doesn't like having fun at lunch!" comments are retarded...but seriously...what soulless automaton hit Dislike on this video?
Been looking for this for a long time, too! Thanks so much for the upload! For once, I don't mind finally listening to what an "educational" PSA is preaching me to do! haha
And of course, now that we have Michelle Obama and Sesame Street urgently dedicated to getting kids to eat fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, it's hilarious that twenty-five years ago people felt, "You know, it's SO important to make sure our children are eating their pizza, burgers, and desserts - let's make a public service announcement about it!"
@DorothyRoseBlancheSo Hilarious to whom? I grew up in Massachusetts in the 80s. Most kids at my school wouldn't eat anything but candy and gum...and to make matters worse, it was considered wicked uncool to like "fun" food. So school cafeterias were going out of business, the kids had rotten teeth and type II diabetes, and we were all bored off our asses. Pizza, spaghetti, burgers, fries, and deserts were a huge nutritional upgrade over the typical juvenile diets of the region/time.
I remember this being shown constantly. I found Chow Daddy scary then, and I still do now!
So many questions, as others have pointed out: What exactly was the point of this ad? "Tired of gum" - was there a widespread problem of Massachusetts schoolchildren choosing to just chew gum at lunchtime instead of buying pizza and burgers in the cafeteria?
Thank you for uploading this. Ive been looking for the complete version of this and not the abbreviated version, and now Ive finally found it. Sweetness.
Love in the beginning when the little dude first sees chow daddy moving in and immediately sits down! Been wanting to see the full version of this for years. Thanks!
I'm not old enough to remember this ad, nor am I from the correct area of the country, but I too have been waiting for the full version ever since I stumbled upon the 10-second clip that was posted several years ago. Thank you so much for uploading!
Hard to imagine a time when you could produce a PSA in which kids are instructed to eat pizza and desserts... Love it!
Back in the day I remember watching cartoons one saturday with my dad and this ad came on and my dad was like "It must be hard to be an actor and look back on what you've done later in life." The way he said it I could tell he pitied that guy who played the lion......
Does anyone remember a PSA ad where a woman was making her kids lunch and all of a sudden the vegetables start singing? I'll put fresh vegetables in their lunch, i'm a tomato, and so on.
@genesislordofdarknes I remember the PSA. Saw it in the DC area in the 1970s and maybe early 1980s. I've been trying to find some remnant of it for years!
Would you happen to have the PSA with the candy bar loving martian who was turned on to fruit? I guess the idea was to convince kids that fruit was better than candy bars (assuming I am remembering it correctly). It was from earlier in the 80s I believe, and also very regularly shown on Massachusetts channels just like Chow Daddy.
@StrafejumpBogle OH MY GOD!!! I totally remember this commercial...i can hear the background music..AHHHH I would love to find this!!! He was "from Mars where they love candy bars" and had kind of a high pitched voice.
@StrafejumpBogle hahaha I found the martian one! So nostalgic!!! search Youtube for Robolar ...i cant post link its so funny ive watched it like 10 times...thanks for putting it in my head!!
@StrafejumpBogle Oh yes! I grew up in New England! The character's name was Robalard (spelling???) & he finds the fruit in a cardboard cut-out Lunar Module. (Presumably the key take-away is that there is nothing better than earth produce. Its on Youtube! Happy Hunting!
I just don't understand what the point of this "PSA" is, exactly. Did some school areas have a free-for-all commercial war between food providers? Was school lunch just not a guarantee? Why is that man a lion? Who was phone?
IVE BEEN WAITING 5 YEARS FOR THE FULL VERSION OF THIS!!! THANKS SO MUCH! I've heard rumors that there is a second chow daddy commercial wherein he spins a pizza on his finger like a basketball. Can anyone confirm the existence of this second chow daddy spot?
@53os - I thought you'd like it, glad you do! I don't know of any other versions, in fact: this was the only time I ever even saw this on air, and I happened to have had a recorder rolling at that moment.. It just showed up..
Wow... that brought back some memories... this commercial hasn't even entered my mind since the 80's. It's so weird to see it again. Isn't it a little odd to be advertising for school lunches? It just doesn't seem like something you would ever see today.
How did you get this? looked for years and years?! My buddy even went as far as checking the Channel 56 archives department...this is just great thanks;)
@Ledheaded101 - I recorded this in '87; my youngest sib thought it was funny. It was in with all my other '87 clips, but I didn't think anyone else would care about it, so I didn't add it, until recently, when I saw that some were looking for it. Glad to know you enjoy it, and that others do too.
I never thought anyone remembered it until I looked it up on YT a couple weeks ago, and saw some interest in it but, no full versions. So I tracked down the tape, and here it is.. -)
