Im reading comments, and sure anyone can be as good as mike portnoy AFTER copying this song and his style, but lets remember, he created the original. His mind, finesse and technique is irreplaceable... thats why we love the Original Dream Theatre.

Another guy who's name I've seen batted around is Mark Zonder. Mark makes a ton of sense, given the close relationship between Dream Theater and Fates Warning, and similar prog-metal style. Mark fits the bill in every way.

This notion that Mike Portnoy is irreplaceable baffles me. Not only does Dream Theater have 4 other skilled musicians perfectly capable of writing great music, there's loads of drummers out there who are just as or more technically capable than him, including this guy. Many of which have very similar backgrounds and influences. Yeah it's never going to be EXACTLY the same, but Dream Theater isn't dead, nor should they just quit.

@antonio610 but still..mike portnoy is still mike portnoy. nobody can replace him. the drum lord that has been already known for decades, already carved his name in one of the legend drummers in history. This guy (charlie) is fairly good, he has this skill and talent, but still, for me, experience is the best training that could a person could gain well mike portnoy already have this.

Great covers but- check Mangini yall. Just remember when they replaced Kevin Moore- they chose a prodigy. "World Class" is who they auditioned. If you were the best musicians in the world, you would choose a prodigy- prodigies are rare and think differently- and they do not spend nearly as much time as this guy throwin gtheir body around like the drummer of SNL. Check out Mangini if you have not yet. He was my teacher and he is not only world class, but a prodigy.

@munton5150 I think there are a lot of great drummers and prodigies out there in today's world which is great cause the information on learning is not really hidden and due to technology has increased. What it really comes down to is who you personally consider a "Prodigy". Mike Mangini no doubt is awesome and Charlie Z is absolutely fantastic too. And the other lot like Gavin Harrison,Marco Minnemann,Thomas Lang etc. It's all personal preference. To me DT's drum parts belong with Mike.
