Wow......i stuck up a 40 foot mast with a big antenna and booster so i could just hear Hitz back then....(200kms away from Melbourne)......it was awesome!
If i remember correctly, the song played at the end of the transmission was ''End Of The Road'' by Boyz2Men??
I listened to Hitz from '93-'96 and through it discovered a lot of great music that otherwise didn't get airplay here or a local release. Such a shame they were never granted a full license.
I volunteered at Hitz and it was awesome. Great memories and the live broadcasts were amazing. When Hitz ended I basically stop listening to FM radio :(
and not one mention of th man who started it all.........ANTON VANDERLELY.
if your gonna talk about the legend that was "THE HITZ".........at leastgive some credit to ANTON VANDERLELY......the GODFATHER OF AUSTRALIAN YOUTH RADIO........
Does anyone remember a hip hop mix they used to play on Hitz? Included 'walk this way', 'Boom shake the room', 'Hip hop hooray' and 'Jump around'. I am trying to get the name of the mix or a copy of it.
after listening to hitz fm since the very start(1992)all the way to 2000 and after all that time not getting a license because of the other big stations i lost respect of radio a long time ago, i mean the fact that adeliade have a similar radio station today to hitz fm called fresh fm why is it they can have a station youth can relate to and we cant?anyways have hitz got there license im certain the other stations would have gone under...
I'll never forget all the nights i spent listening to their live broadcasts from Metro, Inflation Warehouse etc on the weekends. I still got a lot of tapes of some of the live mixes i taped back in the days. And ofcourse how can i forget Pauls Dance classics on sunday, best shows ever. Once Hitz was dead, the music and DJ-ing i so loved, kind of died in me. I drifted from the whole dance, trance scene then. But yeah such is life. I wonder what they're all up to nowdays.
Watching this is so sad now, after so many years being passed without Hitz. I remember when i couldn't wait for Hitz FM's turn to be on air. Awesome station, awesome people. I miss listening to it greatly even today after 7 years!
Glad I come across this vid. Thank god for this radio station. Fucking glory dayz.

There are rasons why Hitz did not get a licence...............namely a $70 million dollar reason...........DMG RADIO launching NOVA
LIGHT FM, 3KND, SYN FM, JOY MELB....got licences cos' they were NOT a financial threat to DMG

Loved HITZ FM.
So Sad its gone, obviously commercial stations were afraid of its popularity.
At least KISS FM still around.
