The persona is quite loud and fun, but it's also witty. Just depends on your taste. But look at the way he performs Smithy - it's obviously not just Ruth Jones making them - and he's managed a lot of layers in there. Also, he gets fair credit for the scripts, it's a comedy partnership.

I think he is genuinely funny, and i think she is an absolutely fantastic comedy writer. He's not to everyone's taste (brash loud dry humor) but Cordon has geuinely excellent comic timing. No need for the hate. We cant all like the same things. Personally, I think its brilliant. Aside from the great writing, it has achieved the difficult task of crossing the age divide. It's slightly off the wall and hip enough for the supercilious elite to enjoy, such as myself (yes I'm deliberately being a twat.) Plus, I can also show it to my parents safe in the knowledge that they will love its charm. Very few comedies manage to achieve this fete.
