This series deserves a revival in some form or another. Would love to see a translation of 1985. I was lucky enough to get a copy of the text, but translating it is another story.

@Lobodescuridad Gatekeepers 1985 is a short novel that talks about the time between the original Gatekeepers and Gatekeepers 21. From what I can gather, AEGIS falls because and invader that has the ability to replicate the abilities of others has gained the ability of one of the strongest gates in the world (the gate possibly belonged to the captain of AEGIS).
@gamingmaestro .You're just about right but there's a bit more. There's an invader named mystical beast that can absorb people and their memories and ablities as well as their APPEARANCE. He pretends to be the leader of AEGIS and slowly brings its downfall from within.
Gate Keepers the first manga which I saw of quite my life (has 6years)!!! And it is grace has this liven up that now I like so much mangas (big fanatics)

...I probably am going to get major thumbs down for my opinion, but I watched the series gatekeepers and I hated it because it was so boring, and all the characters did not have any charming qualities about them. None of them were particularly unique. I liked the concept, but I was bored out of my effin mind, even at age 12.
I liked Gatekeepers 21 a lot instead, and this opening rocked. I've been trying to track this song ever since I watched the series so THANK SO MUCH!
I agree, the first season didn't really get people attached to the characters and every episode was pretty much the same thing except for the last 3 episodes. Gatekeepers 21 was short, but it was good at summarizing up the story in the end. I would like to see another season though, maybe this time it's during a time where Invaders have already taken over the earth, and it's the job of the Gatekeepers to turn all the invader crystals back into humans, because they have a person who (continued)
Is able to use a gate that turns invader crystals back into humans. But slowly, all the Gatekeepers are being killed or dying of the overuse of their gates. Then comes up a new player in the game. The ultimate gatekeeper. He/she is able to use every single gate that they can think of. But it's actually not true, they can actually use the gate of gates. And the weird stuff that starts happening to the normal gatekeepers because of overuse doesn't affect him/her. Please respond with your critique.
I remember liking the series back then but after rewatching it, I can conclude it hasn't aged very well. Perhaps it was because anime wasn't easy to access for me back then that I appreciated anything.
I love the GK series, and I just recently got to like GK21. I really didn't like GK21 at first, probably because I really, really liked Kaoru Konoe. And then she just disappeared from the series without a trace.

A most awesome song, though G21 coulda been way better in my opinion. Though I admit, Reiji and Yukino were amazing and cool as always.

Short and Interesting. The long one was long and boring. We didn't even need the 52 episodes to watch Gatekeepers 21.

Well it was one of Gonzo's intial projects and they were more noted for the animation quality before the story anyway.
