I'm in college AND in the Reserves. If you sign with ROTC, you cannot be deployed. But the recruiters will tell you that you can be deployed. There's ALWAYS a chance of deployment when you enlist.

Im a 19yo in the Reserve, and full time college. It can be done, you just have to be smart about it and know the loop holes. Its not for everyone though, its difficult. But what in the Army is too easy?
If you are insinuating that you cannot go to college while you are in the Army, I just finished my AA and on my way to a BA, and I'm an active duty soldier.... In fact I'm currently deployed and CURRENTLY taking on-line college courses for free. I am not promoting the Army at all, but I am saying that if you are actually insinuating that you won't go to college if you join the Army then you are spreading more disinformation than FOX News... Currently I have been in a non-deployable unit for almost 3 years. We work like dogs (60-84 hrs. a week) but now things (with the schedule) are looking up so I'm looking forward to starting online classes. Thanks for the motivation!

@volcano798 Military Occupational Specialty. Your MOS in the Marines would be 0311. Rifleman (Infantry). I went Infantry right out of high school in the Army (MOS 11B) Get as much as you can when you enlist. You can get your choice of duty station, sign on bonus, etc. guaranteed in writing. Good luck trying to get into SSBC. It's widely considered to be one of the hardest schools in the Corps. Just getting TO it is hard, let alone getting THROUGH.

There's ALOT more to snipers than just aim and shoot.... do a little research before you even THINK about SSBC. You really want a good shot? Ask for a 0321 contract. (Recon. Marine). I would SERIOUSLY look into exactly what a Marine Sniper does before considering. I don't think you completely understand the exact nature of suffering involved....lol.

What is your problem? It doesn't suggest anything of the sort and if he's reserve, there is a chance that he will and will not be sent into combat. Either way, it's the recruits responsibility to get information from the recruiter; it is not the advertising dept. of the Army's responsibility to give you every last detail.

1. He can still go to college. He'll do 3 months of training then be stationed at a base near his home and be part-time
2. He will be part of something important. The Army is still the glue to our national defense.
3. They will train him locally. His base will be (relatively) near his home and that's where he'll train until he's deployed. And of course he'll be deployed. The only people who'd think they wouldn't, wouldn't pass the ASVAB req.

I fail to see this as a lie. The Army paid for my college education. The new GI bill goes above and beyond the old Montgomery GI Bill as it covers a four year degree at the most expensive state school you live in with living expenses. Military service looks good on a resume as most businesses will hire a vet over other applicants with similar experience. My service has allowed me to buy a house with zero down (nearly impossible these days) thanks to the VA Loan program.

Please explain how this is lying to kids. The Reserves are a "part-time" entitiy of the Army. You go to training then return home with the exception of one weekend a month and two weeks out of the year UNLESS your unit is activated. You can go to college, work at McDonald's, Abrocrombie, etc... whatever you want while you serve part time in the Army Reserves and get money for school.
Reserves are for people that aren't planning on serving yet. If they are activated then they're activated and if you enlist then you already know that. This commercial doesn't lie. I don't know how the army reserves work, but I was Marine Corps Reserve Infantry in Anchorage, Alaska and wasn't activated for 4 years out of 6 years of me being reserves.

Last I checked, the US Army was a volunteer service. If you don't want to join because you don't want to see combat, then you should never have considered the Army in the first place.

Finally, The Army now has a college first option. They encourage soldiers, Active Duty or Reserve Component, to attend school. They pay you to attend school.
My grandfather served 22 years in the Navy, and he is one of the most intelligent men I know, and he's no extremist. Regardless of your opinion on the education factor, you must recognize this: the last war that actually protected this nation was World War II. That isnt a lie, look it says army reserve they can go to school. they go through basic training and job skill training then only have to train one weekend a month so it is very possible many reserve and national guardsman do it all the time. It is possible they can get deployed but usually reserve and national guard only get deployments once every 2-3 years. so college is very possible and anyone ive ever talked to while in the army has encouraged me to use my GI Bill money.

How does this video lie? I'm in the National Guard and in college and I get the Gi Bill, kicker contracted through ROTC get that stipend and my regular drill pay and still bring home about $1,200 a month. I don't see the lie
people talk about military and the MGIB, when you enlist, you get to pick any MOS you want, they train you for free in that MOS with some of the best training in the entire world and you get to do that job every day and get payed for it. that is better than college right there, not to mention after they pay for you MOS at AIT you still get the extra MGIB to pursue anything extra you want...dont go infantry and pick a different MOS and your AIT becomes a military trained college idiots
I'm currently in the Army National Guard, which is pretty much like the reserves, and I'm currently attending college to get my bachelors degree and the army is actually paying for me to go to school. I also have friends in the Reserves who are doing the same. So this doesn't make any sense!
I didn't get a lot of school done on active cuz i served from 2002-2008 all wartime but i got about 7 classes in and now im a chapter 33 going to school for free and i have a roof over my head :) I plan on completing my degree and serving again :)

Most likely you won't need to request my friend you are 11 series that's a sure ticket to the sand box.In my case i was 31 series now 25 so is on a need basis.Good luck for me was that many people not reenlisting so there was a shortage of m particular MOS back then.Things have changed a lot at brigade levels now they are "building" brigades that have almost every MOS,in my opinion best thing Army has done in decades.One brigade capable doing many different missions.

I'm in college AND in the Reserves. If you sign with ROTC, you cannot be deployed. But the recruiters will tell you that you can be deployed. There's ALWAYS a chance of deployment when you enlist.

Currently I have been in a non-deployable unit for almost 3 years. We work like dogs (60-84 hrs. a week) but now things (with the schedule) are looking up so I'm looking forward to starting online classes. Thanks for the motivation!

@volcano798 Military Occupational Specialty. Your MOS in the Marines would be 0311. Rifleman (Infantry). I went Infantry right out of high school in the Army (MOS 11B) Get as much as you can when you enlist. You can get your choice of duty station, sign on bonus, etc. guaranteed in writing. Good luck trying to get into SSBC. It's widely considered to be one of the hardest schools in the Corps. Just getting TO it is hard, let alone getting THROUGH.

Either way, it's the recruits responsibility to get information from the recruiter; it is not the advertising dept. of the Army's responsibility to give you every last detail.

1. He can still go to college. He'll do 3 months of training then be stationed at a base near his home and be part-time
2. He will be part of something important. The Army is still the glue to our national defense.
3. They will train him locally. His base will be (relatively) near his home and that's where he'll train until he's deployed. And of course he'll be deployed. The only people who'd think they wouldn't, wouldn't pass the ASVAB req.

I fail to see this as a lie. The Army paid for my college education. The new GI bill goes above and beyond the old Montgomery GI Bill as it covers a four year degree at the most expensive state school you live in with living expenses. Military service looks good on a resume as most businesses will hire a vet over other applicants with similar experience. My service has allowed me to buy a house with zero down (nearly impossible these days) thanks to the VA Loan program.

hmm, well as a college student i can quite certainly say that the halls of higher learning are so disproportionate in terms of political views that its difficult to see how its graduates can turn out any other way than anti-military wackos, i don't see whats wrong with the military trying to recruit brave individuals to serve the very people who criticize them, whats wrong with letting kids know they have options? why is the military looked down upon?

Please explain how this is lying to kids. The Reserves are a "part-time" entitiy of the Army. You go to training then return home with the exception of one weekend a month and two weeks out of the year UNLESS your unit is activated. You can go to college, work at McDonald's, Abrocrombie, etc... whatever you want while you serve part time in the Army Reserves and get money for school.

Reserves are for people that aren't planning on serving yet. If they are activated then they're activated and if you enlist then you already know that. This commercial doesn't lie. I don't know how the army reserves work, but I was Marine Corps Reserve Infantry in Anchorage, Alaska and wasn't activated for 4 years out of 6 years of me being reserves.

Also, your notion that this ad suggests not seeing combat, I heard "Till they need me". This generally means, when they get called to go (the Reserve component goes quite often), they will take him.
Finally, The Army now has a college first option. They encourage soldiers, Active Duty or Reserve Component, to attend school. They pay you to attend school.

My grandfather served 22 years in the Navy, and he is one of the most intelligent men I know, and he's no extremist. Regardless of your opinion on the education factor, you must recognize this: the last war that actually protected this nation was World War II. Our military is fighting needlessly against a group of people that cannot be defeated by any conventional fighting force. Fighting terror with terror only brings about more terror. It is not an army that can be forced into surrender.

Hey fucktard. That isnt a lie, look it says army reserve they can go to school. they go through basic training and job skill training then only have to train one weekend a month so it is very possible many reserve and national guardsman do it all the time. It is possible they can get deployed but usually reserve and national guard only get deployments once every 2-3 years. so college is very possible and anyone ive ever talked to while in the army has encouraged me to use my GI Bill money.

people talk about military and the MGIB, when you enlist, you get to pick any MOS you want, they train you for free in that MOS with some of the best training in the entire world and you get to do that job every day and get payed for it. that is better than college right there, not to mention after they pay for you MOS at AIT you still get the extra MGIB to pursue anything extra you want...dont go infantry and pick a different MOS and your AIT becomes a military trained college idiots

I'm currently in the Army National Guard, which is pretty much like the reserves, and I'm currently attending college to get my bachelors degree and the army is actually paying for me to go to school. I also have friends in the Reserves who are doing the same. So this doesn't make any sense!

I didn't get a lot of school done on active cuz i served from 2002-2008 all wartime but i got about 7 classes in and now im a chapter 33 going to school for free and i have a roof over my head :) I plan on completing my degree and serving again :)

Most likely you won't need to request my friend you are 11 series that's a sure ticket to the sand box.In my case i was 31 series now 25 so is on a need basis.Good luck for me was that many people not reenlisting so there was a shortage of m particular MOS back then.Things have changed a lot at brigade levels now they are "building" brigades that have almost every MOS,in my opinion best thing Army has done in decades.One brigade capable doing many different missions.
