  • People talk about all the things they would do if they lived an extremely long time, but are not very motivated to do them now. Curious.

  • @TrickWithAKnife Yeah cause people are too busy making money, eating and shit to do everything they would like to.

  • @TheAdrokk I can't speak for all people, but there are so many that are not motivated to do any of these things. Yes, most people are busy, but there's always time.

I guess I noticed it because I come from a country where everyone has the attitude of "I'd like to, but I'm too busy", to a country where everyone really is busy, and yet they still find time for self-improvement.

  • @TheAdrokk They find the time to watch nonsense and trash like "The View," professional sports and "The Walking Dead."

  • @nintend04life Hell, if it's that easy, why don't you try!?

  • In the interest of all things, I wish for contentment and rapture and flowering and achievement and all of the gifts and beauties of the universe and of the soul. Know that we're far from perfection. Fulfillment of our mission is a long, long ways off. But what drives us so pure and simple. And it will continue to drive us for the foreseeable future. Whatever we become or wherever we go, we can relish in the knowledge that it will carry with it a piece of ourselves.

  • It may be lopsided and misguided for Ray to be so optimistic, but I feel in the heart of his soul the only thing he's admitting to here is that he has love in his heart and that he fears death. I think that's true for everyone. Even religious people fear death. They created their faith to answer the questions, the fears, the things that haunt them. They're not any different than Ray because they too are searching for truth and happiness and responding to fears.

  • @gukonni Hey, after watching "Transcendent Man" and listening to a bunch of Kurzweil interviews - and speaking as a mental health counselor in addition to my teaching position in the history of religions - I came to the same conclusion: he was traumatized by his father's early death in a way, but what worries me is his glib dismissal of the current economic crisis and his silence regarding inequality, economic injustice, and the diminishing marginal returns of un-ending technological change.

  • @gukonni lol ur ignorant!! first off they are already using nanobots in clinical trials and have succesfully managed to help kill cancer cells. the future is coming, and you need to accept that science will advance and so will lifespan with it!! ray has been very accurate in the past and also does research on this, and you can believe it or not it is coming soon!! the 21st century is the next step to immortality!!

  • So many before us have come and gone with dreams just like the ones we have. They fought and lived to overcome problems and to keep our species going. That's hte goal of every person. Maybe of all life. We want to spread happiness and goal attainment. I don't think there's anyone alive that doesn't feel in the core of their being the need to see happiness and contentment in all thigns around them. We're far from that, but it's what drives us.

  • I think contributing members of society should have first grab at any breakthroughs. I am currently not contributing much at all. But I would never get in their way. In fact, I'm rooting for them. I want them to overcome these problems. I don't like seeing so much dying and heartache. This world has so much of that. I want to see more success stories.

We're all going to die at some point, you know. Life doesn't normally fail to deliver death. But lets not be so mean. It's unnecessary.

  • Only problem with living 1000 years would be population control. Only the rich and the elite would be allowed to live that long.

  • @neobootsonious Wouldn't that mean the people who live longer will tend to have a better education? Doesn't sound to terrible to me.

  • In theory If we lived a 100 by the end of that 100 years we would probably have even better life extension technology and at the end of that... You can see where I am going so if this does happen we will be basically immortal.

  • the only problem i have with increasing ppls life-span is that there are alot of ppl i would rather see die off than be immortal (power thirsty politicians and business men, murderers,etc)... would we decide who has access to these technologies, and how? who is to decide who deserves to live or die? artificial intelligence?

  • @EarlySeed I think everyone should have the right to live forever. Whether that be serial killers or upstanding citizens. It doesn't mean we'll forget all of our laws we have in place and it also doesn't mean we won't be able to get rid of bad politicians. I don't think there should be any restrictions at all as far as who can and who can't. Also, off topic, I think governments need to start putting a lot of money towards this research. There's almost nothing more important in my opinion.

  • @ikilledAeris I don't know if I agree, I think alot of people who have been raised (or not) into immoral and overly self-centered persons should not live forever... I think there is a fundamental difference between allowing someone to live forever, and letting someone die. Living forever should definitely be seen as a privilege and not a right..

  • @EarlySeed Don't you think though, that if everyone lived forever a lot of petty and bad bevavior would go away? Think about it, everyone is immortal, what would be the point of greed or envy?

  • @AgentMurphy286 well I don't think death is the only motivator for bad behaviour and greed. I think that the same thirst for power and lack of morality can live in a society of immortals, maybe even more so.

  • hey If anyone can message me where to get an audio version of "The Age of Spiritual Machines" I will be your best friend forever

  • @7FigureNet In fact it is overpopulation. The world is a finite place. Simple math. No problem though. Like everything in nature......its seeks balance.

  • @Twicebakedtaters Ya, but it's not like overpopulation is a problem you couldn't solve. For a temporary near future solution, lilypad cities and underwater cities could be considered. For a longer term solution, if humans became more machine-like they could survive in harsher environments and adapt to them. And lastly, if you considered Michio Kaku's idea or Darwin 4, what if humanity sent machine controlled spaceships to look for other planets that could harbor life?

  • @Twicebakedtaters Once there, a machine controlled spaceship could operate like a factory and produce machines, and beam data back and forth through fiber-optics using lasers back and forth (it would take less than a decade though to transmit data at lightspeed between the closer earth-like planets and ours though). If that happened, if humans became more machine-like so that we could upload/transfer consciousness, we could beam people across the universe into machine bodies via light itself.

  • @Twicebakedtaters It's all just theoretical though for now though. No one really knows with certainty which technologies will progress, at what rate the progression will be, and/or which technologies may overtake others. For now these are just interesting ideas to think about. =)

  • LOL at the length..

    1001

  • Death is inevitable, Life is not; I'd like to keep my options open.

I look forward to the future, because I belive in progress.

  • why would any one want to live that long? life can be painful in it self. it would be also meaning less with out your friends and family to share it with too.

  • @blackdreamhunk2 Then why not just commit suicide?

We have already tripled the human life span from a historical avg of 30...so nothing is stopping you from killing yourself now so that you don't need to live beyond a painful 30 yr of age. Think about what you are saying before you just spout out. If you want to live beyond 30 in a healthy state then why wouldn't you and your family and friends also want to live beyond 90 in a healthy state???

  • @DK0526

wow what a dumb comment I have friends and family here now I am saying why would want to life for ever when you can't see other friends or girlfriend ,wife live as long as you do.

  • @blackdreamhunk2 Yes you did have a dumb comment. Since you wouldn't kill yourself the moment your wife, girlfriend or friends died. And even an idiot knows that if you could extend your life then so could they? But thats alright I forgive you so long as try to learn.

  • @DK0526

no I think your comment is more than dumb, maybe you find out the hard way! I hope that you do. Makes me wonder if you even have any friends or family?

  • @blackdreamhunk2 Its a strange thing to have you wish me to find out how bad it is to live a long and healthy life. Surprisingly I'd even do my best to try and bring my family and friends along with me...rather then cry because they didn't. Its as if you belong to a pack of deer who has decided to stand in the road and die together rather then actually move out of the road. Your argument amounts to we should all die together rather then even try to move before the truck hits us.

  • Do you not love your family enough to even try and talk them out of immenant death? Or are you so slow witted as to not even grasp that you could try to do so? Also if your family was dumb enough to commit suicide would you follow them if you couldnt convince them? If your friends died in an accident would you roll up in a ball and die or would you try and make new friends and learn to get over the pain?

  • @DK0526

I am up for long life as long as i can bring along my loved one sure.

  • @blackdreamhunk2 Then we are in agreement on that! I want to live a longer and healthier life and bring my loved ones with as well. However, If I couln't talk them into it then, I would be very sad but I would still try to live a long heathy live despite thier suicidal desires! That is all I was trying to say! I think you are really smart enough to grasp that concept!

  • ...also btw if you are not a complete fool then youyou might as well never try and make new friends or new family since that would impossible and since your friends and family would all be dead because they weren't smart enough to want to live beyond the avg age???? There would have to be a whole lot of collective stupidity for things to go bad as you can see!!! I am more optimistic and I truly believe when people think about it they would act smarter!!

  • ...also btw if you are not a complete fool then youyou might as well never try and make new friends or new family since that would impossible and since your friends and family would all be dead because they weren't smart enough to want to live beyond the avg age???? • @DK0526

I wonder have ever lost some one you ever really love? did you ever wish that they were still there. what good is long life when you can't enjoy it with the people you love??

  • @blackdreamhunk2 Yes of course I have lost loved ones...but as sad as I am about that I move on and live my life to the best of my ability. Never in a million yrs would I not want to live because of the loss of a loved one. No one should long for death unless they have no hope. That is why it is important to have hope. Even a cancer patient in great pain shouldnt long for death they should instead long for a cure. Life is always better then death. a long life is always better the a short one.

  • A second point; to those who have become upset about how this technology may be misused, realize that the common man has more power when working together than these "super elite" CEOs. If you don't buy into their crap, they don't have any control. So if the everyone works towards this potentially brighter future, then we have little to worry about in the way of segregation of power.

  • Okay, let's not start spouting about how "I play all these instruments, study science and know all these languages" and think you're justified to make the claim that you're some brilliant new idealist. The whole point of this video is about the betterment of ALL, not solely those who fancy themselves to have such great ability.

  • what a joke this guy is...cancer,diabetes,heart disease and other diseases are curable with lots of therapies like : dr.gerson, colloidal silver,dr.wallach,hemp..etc.

and here he comes to say that our body that evolved and developed all type of mechanisms in time because it needed them to survive is dumb and this science knows better.i'm not against science but if you want the true story search for bruce lipton seminars you will find plenty on youtube.and than come back and tell me i'm wrong!

  • @devilu18 i just looked it up and you are fucking wrong

  • @benopolly hey kid,in order to understand life you have to live it.you are 12 years old so have a little patience.you will think different once you grow pubic!

  • @devilu18 You live in your own little world. Get a grip with reality. evolution happened. if you deny evolution you are like a flat earther. did you take biology? watch a space documentary? lol Thats right im young and Im extremely conceited. Im 18. the younger the better just means I get to live longer than you.

  • @benopolly got it all wrong kid, hope u will live longer but first of all you should research about gmo and maybe than you will understand how nature works and why.nature doesn't handle invasion very well cause here comes something that cells never planned for and have no place to put it .it all has sense in life and some sciences just mess it up.what humans need to live has been discovered hundreds of years ago, you'll find that later, careful not to be a robot by than ;)

  • Medical improvements / nanotechnology could be pretty nice and useful. as far as the rest: well, fear of death drives this dream. But there are ways to overcome this fear. Ultimately it is inevitable (now, or a billion years from now) anyway. There is a lot that can go wrong simulating human consciousness. There may be a myriad of unpleasant effects if done wrong. Getting it right would be far more important than getting it fast.

I suspect it is impossible and unnecessary.

  • @7FigureNet Also i'm sure as humans start settling in other areas of the universe the problem of overpopulation goes anyway

  • I don't know if I can take a thousand more years of this shit. 250 more presidential elections, 50 more generations coming through and making fun of my old music, sounds horrible.

  • @7FigureNet The rest of us will make use of the technology and live??? wow!!!! Who is the rest of us???? This technology will be reserved for the super elite. Not you or me . Not 98 % of the population. If you think we will be making use of this technology you are in for a rude awakening.

  • @7FigureNet "technology will take care of that" is a great argument because it can be applied to any problem and can't be refuted in any meaningful way. Unpredictable technology that changes what it means to be a human? Completely safe. Its not like humans have a history of committing mass genocide or using technology to murder millions or anything. Lol

  • This really inspires me to get years of education and study this wonderful and fantastical new frontier. Can you imagine being one of the first people to gelp revolutionize the "definition" of longevity. My heart already swells with joy thinking about all of the possibilities of the future. :)

  • Come to think of it, if all countries were to give up their differences and put their minds together then maybe immortality could become reality in 5 years. People need to stop foolishly fighting like children and actually do something other than selfishly causing wars and chaos. Just a thought.

  • @nintend04life Lmao, you naive little piece of shit, you are adorable. Hey everybody! Lets give up our differences and hold hands!

  • @version191 how in the fuck is nintend04life naive? A thirteen year old looking at shit like this is as far from naive as it gets you ignorant asshole. Do you not see the potential in a kid like that? I hope to some day have kids who are similar in the sense that they realize how important science is and how wasteful everyone in the world is with their time. He's not asking for world peace, he's asking for world collaboration to combat a more serious problem than power and oil.

  • @version191 Also technology hasn't been why people are being fucked over. And in case you haven't noticed Google lately, they're in my opinion on a path to a greater future. But the glory in Google striving is the fact they are so focused on helping out the greater population in open-source and helping educate the entire world. Oil companies on the other hand, what fucking technology have they developed in the last 100 years? Probably close to none, and they're in power now aren't they?

  • @FleshMob I totally agree im only 13 and I have already mastered 2 languages study science and im almost a master at piano and I play guitar... this is the way our lives should be spent. Forever on earth intelligently gaining more knowledge until we have lived thousands of years. Immortality ftw

  • SINGULARITY FOR THE WIN!!!!!

  • @7figurenet agreed and overpopulation can be resolved with space & ocean colonization :)

  • I love this idea of life extension. 1000 years.

I would learn to play 5 musical instruments, study philosophy, science, do all thing I love to.... 1000 years would be ok :)

  • @FleshMob Plenty of people do all that already. I know people who do that who are younger than 25. In 1,000 years a person could probably master every musical instrument on the planet, learn a majority of human languages, master every martial art, climb every mountain, swim across oceans, etc.

  • @i3rucei3ruce What do you mean, what they do? Can you describe? :)

  • @FleshMob Play many instruments, study philosophy and science, all simultaneously. I know a guy that plays 7, and I personally play 3. And I study wing chun, and I'm majoring in philosophy and learning japanese to add onto spanish and english. And I consider myself to be pretty average.

  • @i3rucei3ruce That is great man! This is how time should be spent! I already do several stuff, if I would win lottery I would definitely continue my education, but just for the sake of genuine knowledge.

By the way, you're not average. :)

In my country, average is someone how knows 0 languages, 0 musical instruments and drink too much alcohol! ;)

  • @FleshMob As long as your mind is updated as well. The more information you know, the harder it is to locate it. The harder it is to think. Your brain processes more slowly. So, maybe artificial neurons will also come with the life extension. Maybe though, the poor wont be so lucky.

  • @dalejrfan800 Yes. How this technology will be distributed is also an issue. Thing is, it will be democratized, same as telephone and cars, but I don't want to wait 50 years...

  • @FleshMob In 100 years, you'll probably be able to learn all those thing in a matter of minutes.

  • @MarkOates2 From your mouth to God's ears! :)

  • @7FigureNet Here's a better idea: why don't YOU die. The rest of can't stand you for five minutes, let alone "indefinitely". Seriously, when you die, is anybody really going to miss you? Honestly: no! That's the truth that you can't handle.

  • @USRefugee a thruth you won't have to handle if you dont die...

  • @JumpyAssasin Whoever wants to become a machine should realize machines can be programmed. Where I work they've got middle managers trying to turn human beings into the closest semblance to a machine they can make us, to get the most work. Our work takes brain power but is fecking tedious. I can hardly wait till you cyborgs take over all that boring work for us: they'll trap you put you it to work and what's to stop them?

Remember, no matter where you go or how long you live, there you are.

  • @USRefugee If we would want to, we could replace 75% of the entire American workforce with machines. As soon as this becomes inevitable, it becomes clear human beings are eventually going to be useful for creative and innovative thinking only. Whats to stop them? The unsustainability of the current market system. Within a few decades it will become clearer and clearer that we can't go on this way. Money will hopefully be a thing of the past by the time we turn 200 or so.

  • @USRefugee u mad bro?

  • The whole reasoning for this kind of thinking is because many many people dont believe that there is any good coming from death. By not investigating these solutions we'll never know if it is possible. I wouldn't disregard god or an afterlife, i just dont believe in it. I tolerate because i respect people for believing what they want. However, if a new theory of life comes along; the people who i had respect for (and their beliefs) will without question try to undermine my beliefs. Be positive!

  • who would want to live here on Earth more that sixty or so years anyway? I look forward to my new inheritence.

  • Idiot

  • @7FigureNet fantastic point. All you people freaking-- go ahead and let your biology destroy you. Leave the true pioneers of the universe live on and prosper.

  • diablo

  • Will somebody please explain to this clown that he will die, like the rest of us. He may live to 120 but he will die.

  • @pme96 for the most part its a question of indefinite lifespan, not infinite. ray kurzweil may not have this option but your grandchildren will almost definitely.

  • Kurzweil is hardly what you would call a scientist. He's more of a religious leader, basing his claims on shoddy data.

  • @OxygenBurglar Lol, your life is based on shoddy data. His data is very precise showing a consistent pattern of exponential growth in many technologies. He has a bachelor's degree from MIT. He was one of the first to use the first computers in the world.

  • @OxygenBurglar He's a crank. Ignore him

  • @pme96

    Idiot

  • Fuck off you fantasist! Life expectancy will fall dramatically over the next few years. If you want to live forever go pray to the flying spagetti monster/God/Allah/Rah ( take your pick of imaginary all seeing deity). Celluler senescence is impossible to stop in humans, therefore aging and death are inevitable. Sure give yourselves a few extra years by leading a healthy lifestyle, if you want be a boring cunt.

  • @pme96 idiots like you use the oxigen of this planet for nothing...at least you`ll not consume to much of it by being an entertaining cunt

  • @halyn1986 Idiots like you should use more 'oxigen' (sic) to learn how to spell correctly.

  • Science is win

  • I Want to be Immortal! increase the science budget!!

  • . The known universe 14,000,000,000 BCE . Earth 5,000,000,000 BCE . Fire (applied) 2,000,000 BCE . Homo sapiens 250,000 BCE . The underlying law of nature (discovered & applied) 2003 CE
  • @TedDGPoulos Don't forget first civilization 5000 BC, Mesopotamians and Babylonians.

  • @youngstunna79 The question is, what do you know about the underlying law of nature? Abundant knowledge exists about the 'other' subjects.

What can we learn from the underlying law of nature? Has its question been overlooked? After all, it is the basis of all matter, energy, forms and forces . . . Everything, basically. It holds answers to our most fundamental questions.

This much we know and can appreciate about it.

I suspect that everyone will know, understand and apply it – someday.

  • @TedDGPoulos Ya, you mean he sounds like he's tryin to get famous because this data does not contribute to anything. Also, lol modern humans didn't appear till 50,000 years ago called homo sapien sapiens. Ya so it goes 250,000 BCE, 50,000 BCE 5000 BCE, 2045. A.D. I feel the world knowing this is worth a lot. It can contribute to different subjects, Sociology, Anthopology and even business, because people will concentrate on developing technology because that is where the money will be.

  • ya i can see the math in your description 14 billion, 5,000,0000 2,0000,000,000. This could really contribute to a future subject, the study of civilizations, once we connect with alien races. We will eventually develop a computer telescope that can scan the universe for intelligent life. Right now people a developing a way to make a make a gigantic virtual telescope, that can project further infrared to see deeper into space.

  • @youngstunna79 The universe is pretty big. Let's start with this little part of the galaxy.
