My uncle wrote this song, he was sharing with me that he and his wife had split up and he was feeling so down and these words began to come forth, what a blessing. I miss you Uncle Dale.
just heard this today on the radio in my car, while the sun was just a shinning away, and it absolutely made my day! such a truly beautiful song, i had to come find it! loved it!
Wynn Stewart had his biggest hit with this song he had that bakersfield sound to him like Buck Owens But Yet he was always overlooked for some reason it shows you No matter what great Era in Country Music someone is always Gonna be put on the backburner Wynn took this to #1 for 2 weeks on 6-3-67 rest in peace.
@jhonwayne52 Since I grew up with both, I love them both. I wish they would play more of this stuff on the radio. I see your point though; I view as them as different genres.
Very first song I thought of when I looked outside this morning here in the Ozarks. :) If this one doesn't bring a smile to your face, I don't know what will! Happy March!
Now THIS is country music! I don't know what the new stuff is today they call "country music" but the old country music like this and many other old artists put the new country music to shame. Wonderful song, thanks for sharing!

Great comment MrWileyk....funny how songs can bring back such detailed memories. Good, bad, bittersweet...still good to be alive.

A follow-up comment: Andy Russell hit #1 with this song on what is now Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts. It was the 91st #1 song on that chart.

You're absolutely right about that. New country just isn't the same as the older stuff.

A #1 song for Wynn Stewart on the Country & Western charts. It was the 118th #1 C&W song of the Rock Era. This was Wynn's biggest hit.

Wynn Stewart was an inspiration to Merle Haggard. In fact, Wynn wrote Merle's first hit, "Sing a Sad Song".

My uncle hates this song. So I used to play it just to bug him! I love old country like this. I own over 60 cds of old country music.

I remember hearing this song back in 1967 when I was five. So good to hear it again after 43 years.

What a happy simple song, beautifully sung by Wynn, to hear in these times - and great pedal steel there in the mix - good ol' country music!
