Where can you find this shop? The only oatcake shops ive been to is one in Newcastle called Oatcake Heaven and one in Alsager (Where i live) called Barry's pantry. Im not English btw! :P
i live near to the hole in the wall and i for one am all for saving this piece of potteries history!. long live the hole in the wall (the oatcake shop, not the tv show!! :)
The real oatcake shops in the 1940's were more primitive, and quite often some ones front room. The finished product was hung on a piece of cord. Nil hygien standards----But I never heard of any one being adversely affected by eating them!
I am from Tamworth & used to work at Toyota up at Derby. There were a couple of Stoke lads who introduced me to the pleasures of the oatcake. I would look forward to Fri mornings when the lads would bring me a cheese & bacon oatcake. Cant get them round my way. Its a disgrace that slowly our heritage is being discarded as this country forgets our history in order to facilitate the wave of "people" coming to our shores from other countries.
dont forget pittshill, burslem etc. i think its terrible what they want to do to the hole in the wall all our council want to do is keep tearing down our history rather than preserve it we can move forward and keep what we have left of the past.
update -ROBERT AIMING TO KEEP OATCAKE SHOP IN FAMILY-who's oatcake recipe has never been written down, everyone is standing together to save the history & heritage which surrounds it.Glenn bought it in 82 when his only son Robert was 1.
>1000 names are now on a petition to save the last oatcake shop with traditional serving hatch.Rob eats oatcakes daily & enjoys trad cheese+bacon filling, when he fancies a change has a warm banana one. goto thisisthesentinel website & if poss sign the petition!
Out of interest, since you seem to have such a forthright view, what's your verdict on Oatcake Annies (Vic rd, Fenton) and Brenda's Oatcakes (Kidsgrove)and Foley Oatcakes King st?
Booze, oatcakes and football. Wow. You've truly made Stoke look amazing.
