While the people at the top will only get richer and the right will only push for everyone for himself. That's hardly an endeavor to try to achieve "a more perfect Union".

However one of the things we all want in Panama is more spending in social programs, education, health care and quality of life. There's no point of growing 8%, 9%, 10% every year if the benefits just go to the top 10% of the population. We need to grow but also invest on our people for the future.

The US needs to invest in their people too, but individualism and free market policies are being twisted in a way that will make the system crumble. The income disparity in the US will only grow.

It started with making investments in infrastructure and promoting incentives for foreign investments. The model of economic development is more like Singapore than the US. We are not a strong industrial country. We need free trade and open markets and a stable currency and stable banking sector to boom. Therefore any politician that talks against those principles in Panama it's politically dead.

I find funny that president Martinelli doesn't start stating the reason for economic growth in Panama when he's asked about it. He says. "I think..." He forgets that it all started with privatization of the state own monopolies (done by a left wing government), started with getting the US military out of Panama. It started with having a vision for the Canal. It started with freeing communications and public services for the market.

Yes, business in Panama is booming, but the recipe for success is different in other countries. God forbid our society has the class disparity that these Latin American Nations have.

Panama is getting away from large class disparities while the US is getting closer.

Granted there is large population difference between the two countries.

Martinelli is one of the best presidents that Panama has ever had, and I am glad that we do not have a president like Obama, Ortega, Chavez, Kirchner, and the other socialists.

Panama did not inherit the train wreck economy that the US did. Panama did not inherit two wars that have been a drain on the economy. Panama did not have a mortgage crisis. So the comparison is somewhat ludicrous.

Not quite true. I live here. Martinelli has increased sales tax 40%, The tax cuts on income are the same and have been for years. Panama has socialized medicine which works quite well. Panama has a big income source in the Panama Canal.

You must have sleep through everything that Martinelli and his cabinet has done since he is been in office. He has (as he said) reduced the income tax rate from 25% to 15% and reduced the corporate income tax rate from 30% to 25%. He's a breath of fresh air in a sea of corruption elsewhere. The people of Panama are very lucky to have NOT only Martinelli but also his businessman cabinet serving the people of Panama vs. the PRD who have robbed us blind.

The ONLY way the US can lower taxes is to reduce our military and withdraw from BOTH Afghanistan and Iraq immediately. IF the US hadn't gotten involved chasing WMD which didn't exist we'd not be in the current mess.

What a breath of fresh air!!...100% positive feelings when seeing this interview. The value in having low taxes and a cabinet filled with intellectual dynamite instead of Obama's collection of social butterflies and his ominous prospects of raising taxes is evident in Panama's growth and minute deficit. As long as the potential for FASCIST collusion, RE: (7 CEOS in cabinet), is kept in check; Panama can't help but continue its rise above the impoverished barrio that is Central and South America.

Sorry to burst your bubble. This is all blah, blah, blah and the president's own delusion of "grandeur". CEOS in Panama inherit their business from mommy, daddy or grandpa, they were not intellectual powerhouses, trust me.

One more thing. There was no need to denigrate Latin Americans as an impoverished barrio. That's very insensitive and rude.
