Panis Angelicus is taken from one of the five beautiful hymns St. Thomas Aquinas composed in honor of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament at specific request of Pope Urban IV (1261-1264) . The last two stanzas are the text for the hymn Panis Angelicus. In opera only the 6th stanza is sung. The english is:

Ave Marie is probably one of those songs that was inspired by an angel, I can not imagine a more beautiful piece of music song by a master such as Placido. This song moves you to a place that is not of this earth.

it's a setting of the ave maria prayer to the tune by Schubert- the German isn't the same words, but a lieder for a girl to sing within a song cycle telling a story. You can hear Maria Callas singing the German song very beautifully, and also Elizabeth Schwarzkopf perhaps even better... This prayer is lovely as well though of course...
