  • SO IS THIS LIKE UR FAVORITE HOBBY?

  • you saved my 150 points in history..........THANK YOU....:)

  • @03436200787 What do you mean haha

  • @grizzlieplyr5221 i no nothing about history...n i couldnt find a lotta stuff about this guy.....project was due a day after ans i found this....so i pretty much wrote about whatever is in vdeo..:D THAT'S HOW U SAVED THE DAY

  • Beautiful! You have given more accurate history in this clip than most paid historians have given in their lives! The sad part about it is that they get paid!!! YOUR DOCUMENTARY IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR FOR THE EAR(S) AND EYES! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

  • @yhwhzson1 I really appreciate that thank you. My documentary i did this past year with a partner, but unfortunately we didnt do as well as this. Check it out if you want. It is also on my channel.

  • Are you going to nationals this year?

  • @gbriker Yes

  • @grizzlieplyr5221Same here. I'm in senior individual documentary. I got first at NY State, but I haven't posted my video. What's your topic?

  • @gbriker Im in a group documentary this year in the senior division. I have posted mine either. It's on animation

  • @grizzlieplyr5221 Ok, cool. my topic is photojournalism. I guess I'll see you in Maryland!

  • I forgot that we were not being judged on visual content. :)

  • Although I will admit that the visually appealing documentaries are much more enjoyable to view and important for presentation quality, but realistically you need to respect someone who obviously put in so much time to research and made finals at the national competition. And it is very difficult to create a visually appealing, PROFESSIONAL LOOKING, documentary. Trust me, I have.

  • @HurricaneJXXN If you are talking to me, then I'll let you know that my friend is a spelling bee nationalist ( off-topic) and we topped highest in our school. Our research is more than adequate. Overall, we spent more time researching information than I did editing. This, of which took at the minimum 3 weeks, 2 hours a day. On weekends or meeting dates, this was extended to at least 5 hours. Part of my intro is an original 3D max project.

  • @nTerSF On this project alone, with all of the time combined, researching, writing the bibliography, and putting the project together in its entirety, there was about 14 hrs of work put into one minute of the film. You can do the math. For a NHD project, I could really care less if the project looks cool/up-beat. I try to put as much information as I can so that I can deliver the message. I know what it takes to produce an award winning documentary, and it must have worked because I have won it.

  • @grizzlieplyr5221 I honesty doubt that, but I don't want to argue.

  • It's a major time commitment, but I guarantee you that took a hell of a lot more time to do this research than it took to make any of those videos on your channel, no disrespect. Do you really think you are a better, more professional video editor because you can use your fancy pirated software?

  • @HurricaneJXXN my channel videos suck. I admit.

The work put into that was barely enough to light a lightbulb. My computer sucks. But I found with time and effort, I can get better.

  • @HurricaneJXXN The work I put into those is hardly enough work to light a lightbulb.

But you got me on that comment. I think I am a better video editor, now that I have used my "fancy pirated software". My sony vegas is completely legit(student discount win), but my after effects and 3d max is pirated. The price range for those are way out of what I can afford, but after seeing what I could produce with it, I got addicted. I feel that if you spend the money, you will want to work to its worth

  • FYI NHD entries are judged on a many different criteria, video quality being a VERY small part, but trust me, judges will respect a simple, informative, well composed entry like this over a flashy, poorly animated entry like yours. Again, no disrespect, but don't put yourself on a pedestal, trust me, from the video on your channel, possessing Adobe After Effects and copying a few tutorials does not make you great at producing appealing visual content.

  • If you feel like talking shit to me after reading this, go watch my History Day project, which did not win any awards by the way, then tell me how much better yours is than mine, and actually upload yours so everyone can hate on it, and no, putting a smiley after a rude comment does not make it friendly.

  • @HurricaneJXXN I'm not talking shit. I honestly forgot that the nationals winner of 2007 or 2006 was made in powerpoint and insanely low quality.

  • I just can't stand when people don't respect national winners because they think theirs was better, which is why I went off on you there. Honestly I was expecting an angry response from you, but obviously you are very well tempered. I'm just used to the usual trolls on here who put other's videos down with nothing to show for themselves. I'd really like to see your project, because with three years experience, I think I could offer some good advice to you both visually and as far as content.

  • @HurricaneJXXN three years here too.

Two years, I guess. This is my third year. I just got back from regionals (2nd place).

I got in trouble for citing my music as my music as Royalty Free Music in my bibliography.

    Fail.

Anyways, I posted it, but it's on private.

  • But it is very, very frustrating when a terrible visual presentation walks all over you in the judging. After all it is the DOCUMENTARY category, so you would think a well made video would count for something.

  • @HurricaneJXXN that is very true.

  • Nice video, I'm doing one of these also

quick question: how did you interview all those people?

  • I called them.

  • Haha I was there when you presented this. I made top 14 too!

  • Nice documentary. I like the mix of videos and pictures, and you have solid information. It pays to use Final Cut programs. I was in NHD last year and used Final Cut as well. Check out my video

  • im doing my project on antiseptics and their effect on surgery

  • Good Job. i was wondering though, what software did you use?

  • Final Cut Express

  • I actually learned something new today! well done Jacob!

  • Thanks

  • i also competed at nationals, i won second place at the NY state competition. my documentary is on my channel. let me know what you think. did you win first place nationals this year and last year?

  • I won first last, and got tenth this year.

  • Congrats! It had a diiferent title. Great topic.

  • I can't find this on the contest winner list at the website you listed above. They must have made a mistake and put someone else's project on the list. instead of yours.

  • No. It is clearly marked. Do you want me to send you a link?

  • This is a really excellent structure for a documentary. It is a very good delivery of ideas and information and clearly shows broad research and wonderful understanding and connection to today. If you could have cut out a very small bit of information to focus on the actual ideas and maybe portray some more emotion and add even more visual elements and improve some minor technical and aesthetic details you would have a professional level project here, GOOD JOB in getting so far, really

    Email me

  • wow dude..... doesnt even sound like you... thanks man
