  • The thing I take out of this is that our election system is completely retarded. For every riding where the vote is decided by 20 people, there are several others where the result is one-sided and your vote counts for far less than it should. And that's not even getting into the fact that we're giving parties that get less than 40% of the popular vote nearly absolute power.

  • Damn, I live in Alberta.

  • Small margin? I wonder if now there'll be a follow-up video about how they got their sorry asses kicked in this election.

Probably not, because they are only interested in hocking propaganda.

  • @arbisea "Small margarine? Not on my toast." Ha!

  • @arbisea Yeah, they're a real credit to our education system. These liberals don't know the difference between a 'margin', and 'margarine.'

  • Why do liberals smell like dog shit and old cheese?"

  • @arbisea cuase thier dirty hippies and hippies dont shower.

  • the people in this video are liberal, ndp, lazy socialist cunts

    HARPER MAJORITY YOU TWATS!

  • How do you vote again? OH, YEAH WITH A CHECKMARK! BRILLIANT! JUST DO YOUR CRACK AND STAY HOME. CHECKMARK AWAY FUCKTARDS! HAHAHAHA!

  • @TheInsultKing That must be why the Liberals did so poorly, they think you're supposed to put a checkmark where you're supposed to put an X.

  • vote for the future, VOTE GREEN!

  • X marks the spot! not a check mark! Make sure to mark an X.

  • X marks the spot! not a check mark! Make sure to mark an X

  • "There were more kids on Degrassi" YAY! These people are using references of my generation. Instead of whatever references those politicians are using instead.

  • @coduo1 What the fuck are you talking about?

  • NDP ALL THE WAY! HANDS DOWN!

  • See deep climate for some interesting conservative election strategies in BC

  • •Jack Layton backed off his promise to hire 1,200 doctors and... 6,000 nurses for $25 million – or $3,500 each – within 100 days.

•Jack Layton backed away from all of his green funding promises after admitting that he can’t immediately raise $3.6 billion from a cap-and-trade system.

  • •When questioned about the $8.6 billion in tax haven revenue in his platform, Jack Layton called for investments in the Canada Revenue Agency – even though there are none in his platform – and couldn’t explain what his made-up $8.6-billion number is based on.

  • @JustChillzz do you think mr layton sits and does all the math and economic modelling himself? or that parties are strictly limited to carrying out what is in their platform? they are all liars in some respect, i just trust him to lie the least.

  • @WeAreTheFew106 are you really asking me if Layton sits down and checks his own platform before releasing it? Yes, I hope he does. If he doesn't that makes him even less qualifed to be PM

  • @JustChillzz One wonders how many Green Party votes were nullified as a direct result of the demonstration in this video.

  • not on my toast

  • i m super dumb

  • I've seen the guy with the red shirt somewhere...

  • Aren't checkmarks considered spoiled ballots? You have to mark an X.

  • @SFUChoir - No, you don’t have to mark an X. Look on Elections Canada’s site.

A check mark is okay. Anything other than a cross is okay, as long as it's in the circle. You can also fill the entire circle in. And you don’t have to use a pencil.

Your ballot will be rejected if you choose more than one candidate, if you choose no candidate, if you write in someone who is not on the ballot, if you do not mark in the circle, or if you mark in a way that you can be identified.

  • That was keen!

Isn't it ridiculous that some Conservatives, and even a few Liberals, are now claiming that Jack Layton may not have been born in Canada?

Our very own Birther Movement - how original...

Google "Girther Movement" if you haven't already heard about it.

Also do a search for "Freedom Haters Conservatives" for a revealing look at the Canadian right.

Seems Canada's got its own "Tea Party" now, and it's extra milky with no sugar.

  • your choices are easy there can be no doubt

the conservative party must be kicked out

little poems like this will be no more, all gone

and Harpers police state will have already won.

I leave you with a final thought from my heart

his evil has begun he has had a head start

but together we can beat him. banded together we will

and get the harper government off of parliament hill

  • Let us say an X is what you need to use.

when going to vote you decide to choose.

as your way to rally with a nation to defeat the man

who attempts to control us with the most evil plan

Your rights and freedoms will be washed away

if you do not get out and vote this coming May

don't let it be said that we haven't warned you

about prisons and jets and funding cuts too

  • I BELIEVE IN THE HIPSTERS

  • I'm pumped to vote in my first election. I would have done so before it became a trend because I am a leader and not a follower.

  • I thought we're supposed to vote with an X not a check. I'm pretty sure the Cons would use a little technicality like that to declare my ballot spoiled. >:|

  • @syggelekokIe - I voted today in an advance poll.

The ballot lists the name of the candidate and the party underneath.

Beside each name is a circle. You have to put an X in the circle of the candidate you want to vote for.

Not a check mark. Not some scribble. Not eyes, nose, whiskers and ears to make it look like a cat.

Pretty simple. But, you'd be surprised how many people screw it up.

  • @ApocalypsePlough Proof positive that these hipsters don't actually vote? Perhaps...

  • @jeffhiggins1000 - not necessarily.

I can see where, if they marked an X with their finger, people might get confused. Yes, some people are that stupid.

The point of the video is to get people to the polls. Behind the screen, where you vote, there is a notice to mark the ballot with an X.

  • @ApocalypsePlough

As someone who works the polls for elections canada, you do not in fact, have to use an "x"

    A check mark is fine.

You *must* make it clear to the person who is counting the votes later that you indeed were picking that one specific candidate. You cannot mark more than one candidate, you cannot mark outside of the circle, you cannot mark the ballot in any way that you (the elector) may be identified.

  • @Aveykin - I was doing some reading and you're right, at least the first part of what you said is correct. The ballot doesn't have to be marked with an X, it CAN be marked with a check mark. You can even fill in the whole circle, like you would on a multiple choice test.

The second part of what you said doesn't make sense. How do you make it clear to the person counting the votes you were picking one candidate, when there is no way for them to identify what ballot was marked by what person?

  • Comment removed

  • It would be "rejected" and not "spoiled"...those both mean different things ;D

As it goes though, checkmark is fine. The Cons couldn't do anything about it.

  • Harper is scum. Can't wait to see the back of him. Can't wait for the latest AG report showing more of his crimes against Canada.

  • @evelynjoyce Ha ha! Enjoy his majority.

  • Excellent advice, 1 more vote for harper

  • @hanksnow82

I wonder why I'm embarrassed to be associated with you by namesake.

  • @hankfletcher Do the country a favor and kill yourself .

  • @hanksnow82

No, I don't think I will. Thanks to our great health care here, I'm confident you will get the medical attention you so desperately need soon.

  • @hankfletcher Are you still up on charges for molesting that kid ?

  • @imN0Ttheone

You have me confused for someone else, although it doesn't surprise me that that sort of thing interests you.

  • In one riding there was only a 28% voter turnout... sad. Let us not let it happen for this election.

  • @jeffhiggins1000 The Conservatives use the military as a political football, reason #83 why I did not vote for them. We are clearly never going to agree. But you assume people that disagree with you are either a coward, a lazy hipster who does not contribute to the economy, or an idiot. Debate is the only way we know if an idea has any value (yes debate even in youtube comments). But you seem to simply want to shout others down and insult them. That's morally repugnant, Harper would be so proud

  • @MegaMissaA 4. If my little cousins are ever raped or murdered. I want the perpetrator put in prison for a long time. I don't want him paroled after a third of the sentence or given 2.5x credit for time spent waiting for trial. I guess you are soft on crime or love criminals but we support victims rights.

  • @MegaMissaA 1. Read an economic textbook. Large scale stimulus spending does very little to help an economy besides raising debt. Targeted stimulus, tax cuts and a good monetary policy is what is needed.

    2. Corporate taxes need to be lower than the competition so other companies have an incentive to invest in Canada. Have you never been to a grocery store???

    3. Those jets are going to be useless?? Tell that to the other 7 countries that are buying them.

  • @finnsia You do realize that the HST was a PROVINCIAL request. Ontario and BC requested that Ottawa collect the tax on their behalf to save administration dollars. The federal govt had nothing to do with the decision besides saying OK. Man you are dumb.

  • Where's Irak?

  • Why talking about military? Thanks to Jean Chretien, "for this" we are not in Irak. And Now, Harper want to bring us in every war! Canadian should help not fight!

  • Comment removed

  • @dabomb1357 Yeah, swearing makes your point sound more intelligent and legitimate. This site is full of BS and half-truths.

  • Troll harder brah

  • Attaboy @jeffhiggins. These guys watch some lefty propaganda and swallow it hook, line and sinker. People, how about using your brains when you vote instead of eating up some half truths and lefty lies? I want to see this money tree you all believe in that is going to fund all of the NDP/Liberal promises.

  • LOL dumb hipsters. Harper will win a majority because unlike these slops who probably don't even have jobs the majority of the population cares about the economy and Harper is the only one who can keep the economy going. Iggy and Layton would rather just tax the hardworking successful people in Canada so that these bums can continue not working. F that. Vote Harper if you're competent.

  • @jeffhiggins1000 No sir, you're an embarrassment. Especially for someone who focuses on how a person writes instead of focusing on their content. Canada's military is pathetic now, using it's military now is like buying groceries at a gas station. Harper is the one who wants to replicate what USA has, which is what has brought them into recession. Nevermind that, they have a plethora of problems due to all the free will Corporations have. He has also increased the deficit in this country.

  • @finnsia Oh, and with regard to the deficit perhaps you missed it, but there was this colossal world event called the recession that affected not just Canada but most of the world. Perhaps your understanding of economics is weak, but there is a concept called deficit spending. The idea is that deficit spending will help to stimulate the economy. The fact that you would cite the deficit only illustrates your ineptitude. I suppose you would rather we just hike taxes? Exactly.

  • @jeffhiggins1000 A great politician you are, focus on one thing you think you can argue and ignore everything else so it won't make you look bad. The systems in place that caused the recession is also exactly what Harper wants in Canada. Instead of making these insults like a child, how spend the remaining characters making an argument.

  • @finnsia Yes, because the Conservatives under Stephen Harper were responsible for systemic United States deregulation during the 1980s. Oh wait, they weren't. And the Conservatives want to deregulate the financial industry. Oh wait, they don't. Sorry, but you're going to have to do a lot better than that.

  • @jeffhiggins1000 1) Harper was forced into stimulus spending at parliamentary gunpoint 2) He's still wasting a ton of money on prisons, those jets which are going to be useless, and corporate tax cuts. 3) Yes, we should hike taxes. We had competitive corporate tax rates in the first place, there was no reason to cut them, they should be raised again.

  • @MegaMissaA Canadians want a government that is tough on crime. I'm not sure if you remember, but about a month ago a man convicted of a non lethal offence was murdered in prison. Why? He was sharing a *medium* security cell with a convicted serial killer. Every competent Canadian knows we need new fighter jets, and the Liberals were the ones that entered into the original group-purchasing agreement anyway. Raising taxes at this point is economically unsound and unnecessary. Like this election.

  • @jeffhiggins1000 Taxes? Oh you mean Harper's HST? No sir, you're no more of a hypocrite than Harper. Just like him, you try to use slightly more intelligent words like "ineptitude" instead of your usual "dingbat...LOL...dumb hipsters" in addition to childish insults and personal criticisms irrelevant to the topic. And before you respond by saying this is irrelivant, I just want to make sure everyone on this page knows jeffhiggins1000 is an ignorant arrogant condescending hypocritical user.

  • @finnsia Don't debate me, just call me arrogant and condescending. Maybe I am condescending, but it's probably because unlike the hipsters in this video I actually contribute to Canada's economic growth. Furthermore, I can actually see that the Liberals don't have a plan for the economy, besides, I presume, hiking taxes. And it's quite apparent that Ignatieff may yet pull a constitutionally valid, but nonetheless illegitimate, stunt to gain power. Don't hate me because I'm informed, sir.

  • @jeffhiggins1000 No I dislike talking to you because you're misinformed and what's worse is that I can't discuss anything with you. What you mostly do is give personal attacks than adding to the discussion in addition to school yard insults and ignorance.

  • @velayaHC Yes I have. In fact I've met with several politicians federally, provincially and municpally. Have you? I know all of the party's platforms inside and out and I am very active in politics. I have a job already and am not very worried about the health care system because all three party's have very similar goals.

I'm not sure where your fighter pilot joke comes in as the Conservative platform states that the planes are to replace the current F18s. Out in left field.

  • Yup, in my riding the conservatives won by 17 votes

  • @Debaucheries Then your riding made the right choice.

  • harper rules, brought to you by hipsters for harper

  • Harper is awesome. His policies make sense and he'll help all Canadians.

Plus, I've met him and he's super nice. He's not a phony like the other guys.

  • @craigwardan Clearly you know nothing about Canadian politics. Have you even met "the other guys"? Moreover, do you even know who "the other guys" are and what they represent? Don't put all your eggs in one basket because you got a "super nice" handshake. A handshake wont get you jobs or health care... unless you want to be a fighter pilot...

  • @VelayaHC F off you ignoramus. Our Canadian military are some of the bravest most professional people in Canada. Don't even compare their work ethic to lazy nurses. You're an idiot. Our military's equipment was falling apart before Harper took office, and the stupid Liberals were still happy to send them off to Afghanistan without the right camo, never mind helicopters and armoured humvees. You're so tough sitting in your comfortable chair. You hippies make me absolutely sick. Disgusting.

  • @jeffhiggins1000 Before you go about calling other people 'idiots' maybe you should do some fact checking. It would have been very difficult for the Liberals to send our troops out in armored 'humvees' mainly because the Canadian forces does not own any humvees or use them in any capacity. At least this lefty hipster hippie (any other ridiculous label you want me to add?) knows what type of truck our forces use.

  • @wayfarer257 Read my comment again, dingbat. I said our troops were sent sans (or without) armoured humvees. My implication is that they SHOULD HAVE been deployed with armoured humvees. Furthermore, if we had proper equipment like medium transport helicopters we wouldn't lose so many brave soliders to IEDs. Don't you dare use military spending as a political ploy you coward. You people make me sick.

  • @jeffhiggins1000 What did you want the Liberals to do, go out and purchase a 100 or so plated humvees in the 5 months between 9/11 and Canadians entering Afghanistan? Impossible. Ask yourself In what way is an armored Humvee any better then the LAV III? Its not. But you being a conservative want Canada to run out and buy the newest, shiniest pieces of equipment because the Americans have it, Who cares if it does the job we need. PS Ask the soviets how well helicopters perform in Afghanistan.

  • @wayfarer257 I'm not going to debate with you about what the Canadian military has said it needs over and over again. It's well known that Canada sustains such high casualty rates because we don't ferry our troops in helicopters, or give them properly armoured vehicles, increasing exposure to IEDs and to attacks. And that's not me talking, that's the opinion of the Canadian military and the DND, who I suspect know more than either of us about equipment requirements and military strategy.

  • @jeffhiggins1000 PS. IEDs are so sophisticated today that we could put every soldier in leopard tanks and we would still have high casualty levels. Maybe that is a reason we should get out of Afghanistan

  • @jeffhiggins1000 PS. IEDs are so sophisticated today that we could put every soldier in leopard tanks and we would still have high casualty levels. Maybe that is a reason we should get out of Afghanistan

  • @wayfarer257 And I agree. Canada should leave Afghanistan. We've more than fulfilled our commitment.

  • @wayfarer257 If the Canadian military was not prepared to intervene in Afghanistan our troops should not have been sent there. Look, the bottom line is you can't have it both ways. Either you use the military and pay for what it needs to function effectively, or you cut spending and don't use the military. The Liberals seem to think you can have it both ways. I assure you, that isn't true. And besides, our troops deserve better than bargain bin equipment. Sea Kings? British Subs? I could go on.

  • @jeffhiggins1000 Canada had to intervene after Article 5 was declared. I can tell you Canada looked at purchasing Humvees when they bought the new G wagons, the humvee were found wanting. The problem with Conservatives is that they are all for military spending to look good. I have family members who were actively involved in military procurement. They will tell you all governments suck at it. But its only Conservatives who wrab themselves in the flag and call anyone who disagrees a coward.

  • Harper has to go he's an embarassment to all Canadian's.

  • @laurana99 Nice failed use of the apostrophe. You're an embarrassment to Canadians. Get off my lawn hippy.

  • Bend over Jeff, Harper has a use for you .

  • @laurana99 Very intelligent reply, Laurana. What should I do when Harper wins a clear majority?

  • @jeffhiggins1000 End yourself? Why ask us? It's your own life. Or are you at the point where you can't think for yourself?

  • I like the skinny Zach Galifinakis

  • @BlimeyGames - Aren't you technically suppose to mark you vote with an X and not a check mark?

  • @Mrmoody Not sure, haven't voted before

  • The sad thing is I live in Harper's own damn riding, which he'll win with 75%. My vote won't matter.

  • @dabomb1357 You can send a message to Harper. A very proud message against his policies.

  • @dabomb1357 All votes matter, if for no other reason than the sheer numbers at the end, not to mention the per vote funding parties get :)

  • @dabomb1357 If everyone anti-Harper in your riding felt that way, no wonder he wins! :\ Support the candidate you like and at least their party will gain some funding for it!

  • @naturalhero I'm still going to vote, but it wouldn't matter if we all voted liberal, he has majority support here, no idea why, but he does.

  • @dabomb1357 Neither does your opinion of Harper. Let us smart people run the country, and you can sit back and bitch. How does that sound? :)
