i wonder why ritchie couldn't cop the soul blues influence { as is claimed} If this is true - why then, did his 1st solo lp sound so bluesy in places ?
{if you dont like rock and roll , black sheep of the family , } I think the MK111 version of purple should have pumped out a couple more lps ....i think it was politics myself .
Interesting early clip of a new, different, though ultimately fresher lineup. Note the juxtaposition of bass and guitar while the drums play their judgemental role. Particularly significant footage for a very early glimps of Blackmore's new hair piece. Rock on wiggy!

Deep Purple is my favourite band and MK III my favourite lineup. I had the honour on July 19th 2008 to play Burn, Stormbringer, Mistreated, Gettin' Tighter and You Keep On Moving live onstage with Glenn Hughes. He was a great guy and put on an amazing performance! A musical highlight of my life that's for sure!
It's great to watch how confident David's performances have become. Only a year before at the California Jam he was using the mic stand almost as a comfort blanket, now look at him here, without the stand and totally in control. Great clip even taking the quality into account.
OMG - Ritche Blackmore is one of the GREATEST guitar players of ROCK, and David Coverdale is AWESOME !!! Also Jon Lord on the Keyboards --- DEEP PURPLE STILL RULES !!!
Oh this is great! Have never seen Stormbringer on video, except for that strange (terrible) edit of Mk.4 in Japan with the Mk.3 album track dubbed on! This i the real deal. Who cares about the quality? It sounds awesome. PS Deep Purple invented Heavy Rock, not Metal.
I think I read that someone (in Belgium?) recorded this for private use per VCR, it was a part of some german TV program which dealt with different topics, so this was not a complete concert broadcast...
It is included IN COLOR in the "History Hits & Highlights" documentary from 17:12 to 17:54, with more footage of the start of the song, and it fades out at 0:38 (here). They dubbed an interview on it, with the music in the background.
German magazine at that time informed the press in detail how the groupies were selected during the concert! and had been brought to the hotel rooms. Special wishes from each band member were applied. Brought big, big troubel for all band members when they went home to their families.
i can´t understand why we have a great footage of the california jam from 74......and we can´t get a decent footage of the MKIII from 75.....i would love to see for example the LIVE IN PARIS 75 concert
Now look I know the Germans screwed us over in the war, and every football penalty shootout since, and their athletes cheated wholesale, and they inflicted Kraftwerk on us - but I think it's about time we let them have colour film.
And camera's that operate on electricity, not gas, from post 1946.
Only kidding, thanks for posting, it's more intriguing & involving due to the quality, and Ritchies on form here.
you're from U.K.? I thought u were from poland/israel! just kidding! I appreciate your comment, but at first I was like "what the hell is he saying?" lol ;)
"inflicted kraftwerk on us", "cameras that operate on electricity, not gas" - you are fucking hilarious! seriously, I'm not being sarcastic. that's some good wit!
And now that Ballack 2 days ago miscreated the penalty against an English keeper I guess who have some of the self-respect back? - also only kidding, best rgds from Germany
It's incredibly moot. Grand Funk were called heavy metal - although Don Brewer likes the description "hard rock" as more applicable. It's still rock & roll to me.
I don't get arguing over whether DP was metal or Sabbath was metal or what have you. Metal didn't just happen, it came from somewhere. A big part of the formula was Plant's vocals from Zep, Blackmore/Lord's speed, precision & Bach influenced chord progressions, plus Sabbath's love of minor keys, strong riffs, and doom-n-gloom imagery. They were certainly heavy metal for their time, now they are sort of proto-metal. Listen to Rainbow's Light in the Black then Maiden's Prowler. Not very different.
You have the cooolest gramps, ever, Bro. I don't care how whack the sound and vid are...he was friggin' THERE and he can prove it and give you a small taste of what real rock is like.
Coverdale is fine, here. I preferred Gillian, but Dave is great at what he does. Stop crackin' on him. Blackmore was weeks away from leaving and it was probably hell being in a touring band with "Blackers" being a total shite.
Unfortunately for Coverdale, i have to agree. he's a great singer, but his voice changed during his time with Purple. It was still good, but i dont feel that he was as 'tight' during later performances
2:13 on is what separates Blackmore from every other guitarist out there. SO much soul. there are other great guitarists, but this has an elusive quality that i cant seem to find elsewhere
black sabbath and deep purpleare both too light to be heavy metal. nwobhm bands and metallica are real metal. also ozzy(in solo career). there are also other metal bands, but neither BS nor DP are metal.
I wasn't serious either... didn't believe any of it, but evenso, great clip and would've liked to see the full show ------------- cheers.
