Whether it be because they live in a warm climate, or are too poor to afford to play hockey. Which is why hockey will never be as big in the lower u.s (warm weather). I am Canadian but the US do develop their players better.
We take high school kids and stick them in the jrs. where they get no education and the aim is to win, not develop players.
In the U.S., the majority of players are developed in the college system so they get a degree - and they focus on fundamentals - checking, skating and shooting - winning games is secondary.
Soon the quality of U.S. players will have them displacing Canucks wholesale in the NHL.

What? There is a reason why most good US NHL players dont come from a college system. I think what you mean to say is "Im Canadian but the Russians develop their players far better then Canada and the US combined" And the Quality in US NHL players has really gone down slightly.

Not true. In some matters, its quantity not quality, in Canada, just about anyone of any status can play hockey, us its an elite group only. Hockey is Canada's number one interest and just about every little boy and girl grows up dreaming to be Wayne Gretzky, its a passion. Hockey should be developed on a base of fun, its a game not a business. I play my best when im really feeling love for the game.

Haha just because the states has more people, and more of a fan base than Canada does not mean they are better at hockey. Canadian players are still the majority in the NHL. Also notice how most of the 50 goal scorers with a few exceptions like ovechkin happen to be from Cananda... Coincidence i dont think so.

I agree, most people who don't like hockey don't like it because they've never been on skates so they can't relate. Whether it be because they live in a warm climate, or are too poor to afford to play hockey. Which is why hockey will never be as big in the lower u.s (warm weather). More affluent people play hockey as well as opposed to say basketball where you only need a ball and a net. Which is why basketball is more popular, cause more people can relate to playing when they were younger.

Agitation is a part of many sports. Getting under the skin of your opponent is a useful and common technique. But how does that translate to fighting? Only in hockey.

Hockey is the only "professional" sport that doesn't severely punish its players for fighting. It's unfortunate; I would probably enjoy hockey more if they acted like professionals.
Just so we're clear, allowing fighting does not make the sport tougher or more manly. Football and rugby are just as tough (if not more so) than hockey, and they don't allow fighting at all.
Why can't players rally their team with a clutch goal, or a big (and legal) hit? Why does it have to to be fighting?

A fight 500 years ago would end with someone dead. Are you suggesting hockey should implement fights to the death? Surely that would rally the team.
There is no honour in fighting in sports. A fight occurs outside of the natural progression of the game (clock stops, everyone else stops). It makes no sense. And it is why hockey is no where near as big as football or basketball.

Wrestling is not fighting. It has very strict rules. UFC is also heavily restricted. Plus, they are not fighting out of anger, or outside of the natural progression of the sport.
Where does it say sports are settled by the final score? Right, because the trophy doesn't go to the winner, right? The title belt is just handed out to whoever, right? What did Iginla get for winning this fight? Nothing.
Actually, I was top in my class for gym. The only sport I don't enjoy is hockey.
