You can laugh, but I bought "Chunk" not for a child, but for myself. Hes so cute.(ok now your giving it a gender) I set it off on the car dashboard. While it climbed the dashboard it popped a Hamster wheelie. My cat was was a little unnerved by it. She ran from it then tried to bat at. I can't wait to pick up some set pieces.

Real hamsters are cute and all but their life spans are to short for me. :( Plus if they aren't socialized(most aren't if you get them from major petstores) those little bites hurt worse then a ferret bite. Not saying they are bad pets, but they need an owner who is willing or isn't afraid of getting bit to socialize them. I'd rather see someone get their kid this then get them a real hamster then treat the animal bad because it bit out of fear. (not everyone but some people do that)

i had a hamster and he never bit me once and he didn't need to be socilized! he loved me cause we were best friends and he would come to the front of the cage for me! i would teach him tricks and give him treats! (not all of the time) so don't say that hamsters are terrible!

I never said they were terrible. Look, I have a untamed hamster I bought named Ginger. The people returned her in a cage that was meant to be a carrier not a cage. If people are going to treat them like that I'd rather see them get a fake one is all I'm saying. Your lucky to have had a really nice hamster. My Cheerio was like that, he was really friendly. Only two out of the six hamsters I ever owned never bit me. I think it depends on how much a petshop takes the time out to handle the hamster.
