Cirque du Soleil Varekai, flying

"Varekai" significa "onde quer que seja" na linguagem romena dos ciganos - os nômades universais. O espetáculo foi baseado na lenda de Ícaro, herói da mitologia grega que caiu no mar ao tentar chegar perto demais do Sol. Em Varekai, Ícaro cai em uma floresta mágica às margens de um vulcão. O local é habitado por seres místicos - humanos, animais e criaturas que são um misto dos dois.

O espetáculo conta a parte do mito que foi deixada de fora: O que aconteceu com Ícaro depois da queda do céu.

I would love to show this to my class, but i dont think anyone in that class would be able to appreciate this. They would all giggle at the ariel straps act, even if i tell them that they are brothers, laugh at triple trapeze, and say that they couuld do this.

Anton Chlenokov is just amazing. Just thinking about the control he has over his body is mind blowing!

And his act is my favourite too, it shows such an amazing strength and the beauty of a moving body of expressive movements. Great, love it!

I cannot imagine how much hard work is behind that act. They showed some parts of it in "Fire Within". wow...amazing

I saw them live 2 days ago and they are amazing. This angel falling down from top to bottom is really impressive, the video edition with general shot and close ups do not create the atmosphere of being there and seeing that "pace" of the whole trip. If you ever get Cirque du Soleil close to your home do not hesitate in going to see them being tickets not cheap I have to say that, but it worth it.

I believe (and could be completely wrong) that it's Romany. Or loosely based upon. I couldn't find much, unfortunately, other than a couple of sources that say 'Varekai' means 'wherever' in that language. Hope that helps :)

Well the lyrics that they sing are imagined and real, they use a mix of serveral languages to make words, that language is calld 'Gromolo' or as many Cirque fans say 'Cirque-ish'. and it could be that they're gipsy words in the songs from Varekai because it's based on that theme.

I love Varekai. It is by far my favorite Cirque du Soleil show as of now. I love the story, and the performers. Anton Chelnokov is indescribable.

The act is called The Flight of Icarus. The character is Icarus, a fallen angel, and in this video it is played by Anton Chelnokov. He was in the show from the beginning until July 2006. Now Mark Halasi plays the part. It is absoltely beautiful his movement and grace.
