  • Goosebumps man.

  • Dear Anathema

You gathered a bunch of people here who some of them truly love you and the others truly hate you (referring to BR gang members). This is not an easy task, thank you for showing us everything is possible.

    Thank you

    One of your big fans

  • Anathema's reaction after they find out this cover started a war here:

We'll never make, the same mistake

The next we create a cover we make sure it's not from bad reliiiigion

    Ohh Yeaaaah...

  • What is that fucking shit? An EMO band covering Bad Religion... the armageddon is coming...

  • @BarelyKeepingAfloat dafuq? Anathema isn't an "Emo Band". They play doom metal and progressive rock. Sure, this cover may be depressing, but they aren't an emo band. This album is in the top 50 albums of all time on MetalStorm.

  • this band is better off dead\

  • fuckin worst remake ive ever heard........EVER. this band should literally kill themselves

  • @frivalousMC Well said, this cover made me wanna pluck hairs from my scrotum. What a pile of shit.

  • I remember when I first heard this song! It had distorted guitars and a half bald guy named Greg singing it. Yea, Bad Religion. The song was actually meant as sarcasm from an atheist point of view. I'm no atheist, but I still always loved this song! Just reading the lyrics that Greg Graffin wrote is amazing. Just a killer song writer!

  • @stevecash83 Brett Gurewitz wrote this song and afaik he's not an atheist at all. I think this song is about something from the Bible. It wouldn't be first such song by Brett - listen to Generator or Skyscraper..

  • @MrSklipkan

My understanding is that Mr. Brett is an intellectual atheist but an emotional deist, if that makes any sense. He'd love to believe in a creator, but cannot bring himself to do so with any intellectual honesty.

The lyrics are clearly in the form of an apology from a supposed creator god to humanity, at at least one level of meaning. I'm not personally aware of any specific biblical references in this song but, as you rightly point out, they do often do so.

  • great song, crappy emo picture with even crappier effects, just take some god damn album cover

  • Great cover to kill myself too. Thank you sooo much!

    RIP ME

  • A very daring homage, well done Anathema!

  • Who is the singer?

  • @Perales666 isn't it Lee Douglas?

  • "smile on the lips, and a hole in the head"

I do believe thats my favorite part of the song, its catchy.

  • Some people like this version better.

Some people like the other version more.

Whatever, it is not a battlefield, it's a matter of taste.

    Cheers.

  • This is even better than the original, Anathema. I think I'm in love with you.

  • 38 people must have liked Simple Plan's cover of American Jesus.

  • Bad Religion's lyrics have never matched their punk rock style. This version does the lyrics justice, though I have to admit I like listening to the original style more. Great cover though.

  • This is a really good cover. However, I disagree with everyone who says that this is better than the original Bad Religion version. You can not say that the original isn't as good because it's too punkish or not enough emotion, considering Bad Religion wrote it! Not dissing this version, just saying that if Bad Religion didn't write this genius song in the first place, this cover wouldn't exist. So remember that.

  • This sounds nothing like Anathema and yet people "prefer" it as Anathema's style, THIS cover isnt Anathema's style.

  • Very good. But I prefer the original :)

  • 21/05/02 and waiting the rapture.

  • 37 People disslike anathema? its a joke?

    Disslike anathema isnt possible.

  • @BeyondthoughtSs They're subhuman insects. Pity them if you can find the time.

  • I still prefer this version. The original one from Bad Religion is just a little bit too punkish and fast for such reflective and deep lyrics. Here Anathema's music just put out the dark and introspective side of the song, more than the real authors

  • I strongly disagree with everyone who says the original is better. I think this one has a lot more emotion to it. I also think it's just overall nicer and more dramatic when it's slow, like this.

  • @Starchild91

Sometimes emotion is not express by a nice femenine voice ,a piano and slow rythm... For my Bad Religion original version is by far better and express the whole feeling of the lyrics ; regret, anger and passion.

  • and by the way a solo and acoustic cover of Greg Graffinon this song, would express more emotion than this cover...

  • temaso, amo la letra y la cancion =)

  • Cool video and I would like to get you further with it if you want?

  • Comment removed

  • It's other music but with the same lyrics

  • oh please ...i can't be so romantic...love it.

  • i really like Anathema BUT The original version from Bad religion is so much better

  • Comment removed

  • it``s feminazi shit?? EMO and punk are the same thing... I don't even know whats trying to do a woman singing a song about pride, it``s pathetic...

  • Way better than Bad Religion :)

  • @Verdunkleten13 :)) lol bad religion is by far more influential and more important band than anathema. they are just simply not playing in the same league.

however I like this version but only subjective fools can belive this version better than the original...

    sorry.

  • @melchizedekful i don't say that Bad Religion is better or not than Anathema, I don't know, & I really don't care. But look and the lyrics of the song.. which instrumental is better of them? Anathema, with a perfect rithm for them, or Bad Religion whit a non feet line? it's not 'bout subjectivity,is about your power to understand music

  • @Verdunkleten13 as this words were written by brett gurewitz it fits 100% to bad religion.

not to mention greg graffin sings 100 times better than this vocalist.

  • @melchizedekful I'm refering to the melodic line, it fits better than B R . But no problem, not all of us can understang music:P

  • @Verdunkleten13 this is the first thing I agree with you. obviously you have no clue about music.

  • @melchizedekful Contact me when you can talk without subjectivity :) Have a nice life.

  • @Verdunkleten13 wtf a nazi tries to teach me about objectivity? :)) what is your next topic? how to be more liberal?

it is so "authentic" from you! :)))

and your standartenführer knows about it? :)

  • @melchizedekful Oh, yes, and if you don't like this version, go & listen to Bad Religion & shit. Done.

  • @Verdunkleten13 so you like the cover of a shit. i see. :) lol!

  • @melchizedekful u are lying yourself... since u know that this lyrics fit better on a "sad" tempo...

BR are great and theyr sarcastic original song is the best sarcastic version of this song... but anathema's version is the best sad version of this song... u can't compare the 2 songs... since they are not the same thing...

  • @TheMetalKnightM wise words what a pity you was not able to understand what i was talking about before i just involved with this little fame with that teenager anathema fan.

I just told: the title should be like this "bad religion - better of dead (anathema cover)" because any other title e.g like up there) is nothing else than a misleading bullshit.

that was the point. if you disagree with this then start to criticise me.

  • @melchizedekful that would suggest that Bad Religion covered Anathema.

  • i frankly think that all the shit u say R useless guys

most of u critisize the picture on the screen

    itisn'tt what u have 2 say

as i see it, what counts is ur opinion ab0ut the song

af far as i'm concered b0ut EMO's.well just go &find out more inf0 bout them.

u might think i'm an emo.well i'm not.i like their way of thinkin' and i'm AGAINST people wh0 blame them all the time

moreover.u, that don't like EMO's/tell me smn wh0 has different insight from u that u like.NONE.u all like just urselves

  • It seems like most of us here know what emo is. It's a bunch of kids playing dress up with mommy's make up. Half of em don't even know what real music is.

  • For fucks sake who let them destroy a Bad Religion song? Seriously...this is terrible.

  • @quovadimus02: hey man, its not terrible just.... something else;) i love very much the original one but this cover gives another meaning to this song. and this is the main sign of a good cover, isnt it? ;)

  • emo? lolwtf! I was listening to Anathema when most of these emo kids wasn't even damn procreated! Of course they have pretty sad songs whether its metal or whatever- but comparing it to emo scene... Omg, its like comparing Taj Mahal to authistic monkey's vomit.

  • When will you stop labeling greatness?

  • this it's not doom METAL, for the guy top rated, i suggest to read more about the genre METAL, Anathema since "Eternity" , it's not more Metal.

thsi it's not emo too, who said that it's very ignorant, it's a great song of rock

  • w

    oow

  • Emo-Emotive Hardcore, a sub-genre of Hardcore punk that started in the 1980's. Modern Emo-A creation of some marketing exec for a major record label. First coined when used in a 2000 review of Dashboard Confessional. It is not to be considered as Emo (modern emo) but due to wide usage and mainstream popularity with that usage, it's been lost in translation.

  • @MrChaos667 Yeah whatever... FUCK EMO POSERS

  • wow its really amazing,,, :')

  • anathema kicked ass before emo existed. what is emo? kids!

  • lyrics are just amazing...music is beautiful ..an all around great song.!

  • @ayerslay Too bad they didn't write them, eh?

  • This is a cover. I love it when bands cover songs that are either 1) not in their genre or 2) are completely redone to form something new. This is an amazing cover of a quality song!

  • Awesome, she did Brett's song justice here.

  • the video sucks!!

  • .....Ehhh....I definitely prefer the original. But I think its cool that they covered a Bad Religion song.

  • Eh. Gimme BR.

  • embrace life, embrace death, it's all life, music is everything, and everything we do is the music we play.

  • are you sure this is anathema????

  • @verovidoni

Yes, it's them. I guarantee you.

  • @verovidoni Yeah it is

  • original is better... but thats just me

  • ALL EMOS think that everything is "EMO" LOL

    Forgive them GOD!!!!!

, for their poor ignorance and EGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOcentric minds as they still DREAM that EVERYTHING they touch is "EMO" in their pinky world

  • good but not one of their best. and anathema WAS doom metal id say this comes off more as gothic metal. bad religion is ok but kind of over rated in my opinion pretty thgeir just a repeat of nofx.

  • @kmfdm5 uhh, no. nofx wasn't even around when bad religion started up. aside from that the messages that come from both bands are polar opposites. you kids with your doom metal make me laugh- how about growing up and joining us in the real world where there aren't ghosts and goblins. black sabbath was the only doom metal band worth anything and that was before that genre even existed

  • @foleybits kid? im 24 dont think age grants you wisdom or superior intellect because judging by your biased comment id say you have none.now i will admit u have me pwnd on the bad religion nofx bit but ur comment on doom metal as well as ur condescending reference to my age is inaccurate.black sabbath WASNT a doom metal band the term was just coined from the song hand of doom where most doom metal bands such as trouble, cathedral, or candlemass are said to have drawn their infuence.

  • @foleybits you may as well say that venom is a black metal band

  • Eh, I've gotta say I'm not a fan of this cover. Obviously it won't be the original song, but I like Bad Religion's sort of upbeat/energetic style as a contrast to the lyrics, like with "I Want To Conquer The World". Interesting idea for a cover, it just doesn't work for me.

  • c'mon this sucks, a shame for Bad Religion

  • @JempiDude Anathema's covering one of their songs is probably the only point in favor of considering Bad Religion as anything beyond the representatives of silly adolescent crankiness they otherwise seem to be. Perhaps their usual simplistic sentiments appeal to the very young and and the uneducated, but anyone who has moved past an unrefined and childish outlook on life isn't going to be satisfied.

  • Holy fucking pretentious. Anathema may have started as a Doom metal band but they're far from it now man. This entire Album may as well have been Pink Floyd. Who said Emo?!

  • way to make me puke.

  • i gotta go puke now, way to destroy a great song by a great band, you cunts!

  • @bets86 A great band? You mean one that can only appeal to teenagers and those lacking any degree of innate intelligence because it has nothing but the crudest and most simplistic messages to its music? Oh yes, those kings of subtle reflection.

  • this is originally from Bad Religion

  • This is a piss poor version of the original. I appreciate the unique approach to it but nothing when held up against the original. Just my opinion. I love Anathema but they should have left good enough alone on this one.

  • @sorteal This version is great; far more interesting the the original, cookie-cutter "here's another run of the mill punk song lacking any exceptional features apart from its utter banality". I'm just amazing Anathema could manage to make lyrics written by someone about as intellectual as Sarah Palin sound even moderately meaningful.

  • @smith9365 LOL!!

  • @smith9365

have you ever even heard a bad religion song? I can respect the fact that you may not like their style, but to refer to their message as "silly adolescent crankiness" with "simplistic sentiments" that appeal to the "uneducated" only displays your ignorance.

How many lead singers have a Ph.D in anthtropology? Are professors at UCLA, teaching courses in paleontology? That received the Harvard Secular Society's Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award in Cultural Humanism?

    I

  • @smith9365 And... before you point out the obvious... I mean have you ever heard a bad religion song aside from the one we are commenting on? Have you ever heard them in their own element? and if you don't like punk.... try their acoustic versions!

  • Gotta love the song..and love the picture

  • THis is not doom metal its just music. BUt who cares anyway what genre it is its ether good or bad and that is that .

  • No wonder emos are so easily attacked... You lack resolve... Your despair is turned inwards... You accept your weakness as if you have caused it. Pitiful. Better of dead? Yes, as is everyone. Get over it or take a few people out with you. Bang bang.

  • Bad Religion way better

  • @Pittsman71 its something defferent..i think that both ways are very good!

  • amazing

  • Now compare this with Anthema's other song, "They Die"

  • This is one of the best covers I ve ever heared!

    ..but nothing can beat BR..;)

  • I haven't seen this in a while...

She has a good voice I guess, this arrangement is just cheesy as hell, and feels like it misses out on all of the irony of the original.

Also, when you post something like this you should CREDIT IT AS A COVER.

  • love her voice! love the song!

    it rocks!

  • She sounds like Lita Ford. Reminds me of a High School Graduaton performance. But that is talent.

  • PURE GENIUS !!!

  • Wow the memories...

  • Nice piece of music, a beautiful voice is VERY important. Nice art.

  • It's amazing... I love this song

  • @Rape69me

The original by Bad Religion is far superior. Although this is still a very good cover.

  • @iTubeYourDadsMinge how the F you compare them AND say that one is superior over the other since they are DIFFERENT?

  • her voice rocks

  • This a really good cover at least it doesn't play same way Bad Religion does. I still like Bad Religions version better All in all.

  • I like both versions but this one's just beautiful : )

  • Zé Ruelas!!!!!! vão dar meia hora depois vc volta pra fazer cover de uma musica boa

  • Good cover. Very different tones.

    Bad Religion: FUCK YOU!

    Anathema: Sorrowful.

  • this is what the song is meant to be........ beautiful!

  • meant to be?

    .......

    dude...

  • wow this is great, like the bad religion original better, but this is surprisingly good, glad I stumbled on it.

  • Wow, Anathema doing a Bad Religion song??

Well, i like this one but since this is one of my favourite BR songs, i have to say i like the original version better...

    Still, it's a nice cover...

  • this is so prety :)

  • ..does someone know who is the girl that sings in this song?

  • Lee Douglas

  • John's (Anathema drummer's) sister, Lee Douglas. I like her voice a lot : )

  • I think it'd be really nice if it wasn't so slow. That's not to say its not nice as it is.

  • Then listen to Bad Religion's version.

    It's a little faster^^

But I understand what you mean, you're right

  • I meant it as a comparison to Bad Religion's version.

  • ya i can totally agree with Underpants158 - spetially about the chick : so cool and scary same time :D

    beside

covers supposed to be different than originals its not about copy the song - would not have sense at all than i think

  • -.- i got scared of that thingy on the screen :S btw not the best of anathema

  • I'm sorry... about the sun

How could I know... that you would burn?

  • anathema:) wish i could see them live best doom/death band ever

  • great song, but the picture sucks...it's so disgusting man...

  • @palakout87

    the picture is beautiful.

  • This a very good song because Anathema is a good band. <3

  • Good cover, but I prefer the ORIGINAL!

    BAD RELIGION!

  • love this song...

  • I don't listen to this genre. I'm more of a punk guy myself and I know of this song originally from bad religion. With that being I said I think it's a really good cover. So what if it's not like the original? It's still a good song. And I am freaked out and attracted to that chick at the same time.

  • This is a cover of a Bad Religion (a punk band) song.

  • josefraguletti1972 sta bien pendejo

  • it´s nice song and very depressive :/

  • EMO??? are you all nuts!?!?!?

this is doom metal, and before all of you start calling me crazy and stupid and so on...i sugest that you find out more info about doom metal and all the variations in the doom scene.

  • doom is real pain. /m/

  • @CNTF75 He is Completely Right It is Doom Metal, EMO is a word thrown around way to generally these days... Yeesh!

  • @CNTF75

I hear you, somewhat. You can't call something emo just because it's slowed down, played with piano, etc. But my main problem with this cover is the watered down vocals. Bad Religion's original, like most of their songs, is rich with harmony. Someone below mentioned something about Bad Religion's acoustic versions. This could have been one of those maybe, but it needs some work. Respectfully, of course.

  • @Yneos6 honestly pop culture has mislead ppl as to what Imo actually is. they have only to look to hardcore.

  • @kmfdm5

That makes sense. Interestingly enough, there is a fine line between emo and metal. And it's only because people respond to sensitivity with aggression. Do you recall "screamo", which is a bullshit genre? And this might be emo's response to the negativity that it has garnered. Personally, I try not to look at anything—film, books, music—in terms of genres. If it's good it's good. Some "emo" bands I like, some "emo" bands I detest. The end.

  • @Yneos6 well screamo from what it actually is is an mixture of hardcore and imo. imo is an offshot of hardcore which is a subgenre of punk. the name imo camre from the name of the bar where most of these bands played. what ppl call emo such as the used or my chemical roamnce or anything like ISNT emo its power pop and emo was never a scene or look it was music movement under punk. unfortunately it didnt last very long though. died with 80's.

  • @CNTF75 thank u man..u find the real words

    hail to you my friend!

  • @CNTF75 . My sweet dude. You're a faggot.

  • @CNTF75 Agreed.

  • @CNTF75 just fucking embrace it already

  • @CNTF75

Dood, you need to be Metal to be called doom metal..

    this is CRAP!...

    BAD RELIGION FOREVER!

  • @CNTF75 Hails \m/

  • Guys, cmmon...Anathema & Bad religion make a TOTALLY different type of music. It's a cover , but it IS supposed to be so different. Even though i'm a huge fan of Anathema, and i like THIS version more, that's subjective.BUT an original is AN ORIGINAL..and any cover made will never be better, generally speaking. Just stop arguing which version is better...it's personal. however nice lyrics :) creepy piC and this is the end of my essay -.- haha (:

  • Music = Music idiots. Everyone that tries to bring down something else cause supposedly he or she listens to good music and everyone else's is crap. Go fuck yourselves incecure losers. If you go on like this you won't be able to listen to anything anymore cause an EMO or whatever might listen to it. GROW UP

  • this pic gives me the creeps.where the fuck are her eyes?!

  • dumb ass, emo is a copy of 80's new wave and during the time of release for this song if u said EMO to this band they would probrably say what the hell is that. and i think emos only exist in north america cause their are no european EMO bands.

  • I´m a big bad religion fan and yes, I like this cover version. The BR one is much better but it´s very impressive to hear it in this way.. great.

  • Bad Religion - Better Off Dead

    punk ftw

  • This is not fuckin Emo. This version was featured in the album "Alternative 4", in the year 1998. Deviant muffin must be emo.
