  • @luquejorge thanks for your support, don't my site at DedeMed

  • Awesome

  • Could this recipe for pita be used to make gyros?

  • can you make this without yeast?

  • @heckler171 no, pita dough needs to be made with dough so that it rises and puffs up

  • @dedemed you meant "made with [yeast]'? if so, ty.

  • Thanks so much for sharing. You make it look so easy! We are going to give it a go!

  • @moore79 wonderful

  • I've made pita with out yeast because yeast scares me lolz. It wasn't very good ahah. Luckily for me, A local resturaunt near me sells pita from Al Shams Bakery in Dearborn, MI. It's the best pita bread I've ever had!

  • @ChoctawFlute Dearborn pita bread is the best

  • @dedemed Yes. I'm glad my dad lives in Dearborn so I can load up when I go back to visit.

  • Dedemed, thanks so much for your recipes!!

  • Will my bread turn out the same with self rising flour?

  • @Siberia087 yes but you still need to use the yeast

  • could you please share some recipes of cake etc..thanks!

  • @coolguynice2002 yes they are on my site, check out namoura

  • thanks. i now have the courage to give it a try.

  • I made this pita bread recipe last night and it didnt puff up and it was hard. please tell me what i did wrong?

  • @parinebhwani trying letting the dough rise for 15 minutes after rolling it out

  • hi!Can I use the same recipe but making wider and thiner dough "discs" and place them in a pan?I would like to use it as a soft wrap. Thanks

  • @legionaire6542 yes you can

  • how long do you leave the dough to "rest" and rise?

  • @legionaire6542 directions are on my site :)

  • my yeast never rises. :-(

  • @KofykatKashyap it may be expired

  • just made it, & nailed it! hahaha thank you dede you're a genius!!! :)

  • @mariadelmarpenichet you are welcome :)

  • how long do you let the dough sit?

  • @jahnke9944 directions are on my site

  • Thank you very much! Your recipe is really awesome!!

  • @isauraalor thanks for the support :)

  • can i replace olive oil with other oil?

its difficult to me to find olive oil

  • @MrMusisiembongan yes you can :)

  • what a different between pita bread and lebanese bread???

  • @felaniz pita bread is Lebanese bread :)

  • @dedemed thanx dede

  • Thank you for your recipes! I moved out to Mexico for school and its the first time Im away from home. No pita bread, shawerma or kefta in Mexico. This is exactly what I need!!!

  • @aabdel20 wonderful, check out my site for other familiar recipes that I know you'll enjoy :)

  • How long it can take If I store it inside the fridge? Is it possible to cook into a turbo broiler? I have only microwave and oven toaster (old, high heat, fix heat).

  • @rudolfvonlvasquez an oven toaster may work, a microwave will NOT work. You can store it for up to 10 days after baking the bread if you store it in a plastic bag or container.

  • do I preheat to 450degrees? or 500 as u mentioned in the video? thanks.

  • @mrsdore1 if the recipe says 450 then go with that. I may mis-speak in my videos sometimes, it is a little hard to focus on exact measurements and directions while cooking and taping, that's why I always refer everyone to my written recipes on my site :)

  • Since we don't have an oven at home, will just cooking it on a pan work? Btw, I'm so glad I discovered you! :)

  • @BunniiLuuv well you can cook it in a pan but you may not get the nice pita pocket, you will get more Greek style gyro bread that is a bit thicker and no real pocket but it still tastes great :)

  • @dedemed Thank you. :)

  • I made this last night and it was delicious fresh, but after wrapping it up and storing it in the fridge overnight it was crispy today, did i roll it too thin perhaps? Or did it just dry out? I used whole wheat flour btw.

  • @lonSinceInsane it may have dried out. You need to store it in a plastic container or plastic bag immediately after you remove it from the oven so that it does not get crispy.

  • @dedemed ooh, that is probably the issue, i stored it after about an hour of being out since we were munching on it. I'll be sure to wrap it up right away next time. :)

  • "You don't want the dough to stick to your jewelry"

I think the other way around is more of a problem...

  • @MozartJunior22 lol cute!

  • @dedemed BTW How did you make the "pocket" in the pita?

  • @MozartJunior22 you can't make the pocket, the yeast causes the dough to rise while baking and puff up and then a pocket is formed :)

  • DeDe I am sooooo Happy i found you!!!

  • @stillfoxyforever wonderful, please check out my site as well, i'm sure you'll enjoy it :)

  • any alternative if there's no oven at home? can i microwave the bread? if yes, how many minutes? thanks and more power.:-)

  • @MsSupastah well, no a microwave won't work but a toaster oven will work.

  • do you have to use white flour? can u just put 3 cups of the wholemeal flour?

  • @SammiieBabiie01 yes you can use whole wheat flour but you may need a little bit more moisture since whole wheat absorbs more liquid.

  • So roll it out, andthen leave it on the counter to rise? For how long?

  • @IraqiChaldo125 the written out recipes and instructions are on my site, but you can let it sit for about 10 minutes.

  • I am hooked. So good...melt in your mouth good.

  • @teamfusionusa i concur :)

  • Hi D,

I watched this vid ovr 5 times+, I wanted to be exact, however life happens, tell me what went wrong:

1 mixd Yst, Sgr, wtr 112. timer 12 min, phone call bad news 20 min later yeast very bubbly.

2 I forgot to had warm water, UNTIL AFTER, I mixed flour and yeast mix together and it was so dry. So I added water to only 3/4 c into dough was sticky but I hoped not to wet. I oiled bwl arnd dough, let rest for 4hrs nap to long?? rolled out, baking stone, 450 prehtd. puffed, to hard for sandwh

  • @tjflounder ok go to my site and follow the written recipe, you really can't go wrong :)

  • @dedemed

    Part 2:

so I let it rise for 3 hrs. However, around 1.5 hours it was at top of bowl! I punched it down and waited, until almost 2.5 hours. Then I kneaded it for about 10 minutes. It was real tight so I let it rest more. Then it was more sticky.? I watched a few other sites on rising and gluten etc. I pretty much found out you have to have a machine or be bionic to over mix dough. I almost threw away. So I rolled them out, let sit again.. Cooked 4 on my new stone, 4 on cookie sheet!

  • @dedemed

    PT 3

  • Thanks. & i made it, they turned out good but didnt rise

  • @IraqiChaldo125 hmmm, next time try letting it rise after rolling it out :)

  • U never said how long to let it sit and rise for

  • @IraqiChaldo125 the written recipe is on my site

  • Lovely.... Thanks

  • @SoothingPine thank you :)

  • Bravo!!! very nice,Poli kalo.:)

  • @NINVASILIOS thanks :)

  • Made your recipe and 2 problems: Love the video and recipe worked until I cooked it. (Go blue)

    1. Most pitas came out crispy and dry (despite following your timing) Cooked on a pizza stone at 450, 4-5 minutes one side, 2 minutes other side.

    2. Tasted very bland. How do I improve the flavor?

  • @breadguywannabe solution, cook for a lesser time period, each oven is different so if your oven cooks them faster then decrease the cook time. Another thing is, when you take the pita out, put it in a plastic bag immediately and close the bag, that will keep the dough tender :)

  • @breadguywannabe 1. U probly cooked them 4 too long. 2. its a bread, most bread is kinda flavorless. Its meant to be an acompanyment for ur meal....i suggest to look up a great Tajine receipe (Tajine is Moroccan) or Dedez Shish Tawook. Stuff the bread with the Shish Tawook add lettuce, tomatoes, onion what ever u like and theres a homade Donair...lol

  • Hi Dede,

    Really enjoy all your recipes!

    Question....

Can I prepare the dough in advance up to them being in individual balls, then store them in the refrigerator to bake when needed?

I only have time on the weekends to spend the time making the dough, but would love to be able to bake pita fresh.

    Cheers,

    Angelo

  • @ampimental yes you can make it in advance. just make sure you let it rise after rolling it out so that it will puff up in the oven :)

  • How long do you let the dough sit - the first time???

  • @CyrenaLily the written recipe is on my site, all the details are written out, check it out :)

  • I could almost smell it from my office!!! But I am desperately looking for a gluten free recipe, can you help PLEASE

  • @judyfreedman just replace the flour with gluten free flour :)

  • I love the recipe and mine tasted good, but it never makes the pocket inside. Do you know what I'm doing wrong? I let it rise completely. Thanks for your great videos.

  • @sencha22 yes, after you roll it out into a circle, then let it rise for another 10-15 minutes, then put it directly into the oven, this will make a definite pocket ;)

  • i follow your recipe but i just use skillet for cooking the pita bread and it turns out a bit hard like a dried squid..what can be my alternative if i dont have an oven? can't i use direct heat?

  • @chocomarvin1 well I would suggest grillng it.

  • Thank you I will try it

  • That Bread looks really good, I think that would be great on the grill.

  • @gno2k yes it is great the grill as well and you can add herbs or zaatar to it as well :)

  • i enjoyed ur style :) thnx!

  • @aleko11 you are so welcome, check out my site for other recipe videos and let me know if you have any questions :)

  • wow! just what i wanted! middle eastern food is the best!

  • I LOVEEE PITA!!!

  • thnk you :)

  • @nahsoramor you are so welcome :)

  • @RocioEdithRJ sugar and yeast, the written recipe is on my site

  • How is it it makes a pocket in the middle? Magic?

  • @mchar69 the hot air builds up so it creates a pocket :)

  • Found it! You really should post the direct link to the recipe with your videos!!

  • @teamgibber I will work on that :)

  • What is the difference between this and your dough recipe for zaatar manaeish

  • @Nettles27 there ar minor differences, both recipes are listed on my site :)

  • Thanks...good job... a hint maybe would be to cut more out and make whole video shorter...otherwise great.

  • @pabobfin thanks for the comment, some people need more direction than others :)

  • do you have Souvlaki recipe?! hahaha

  • @d3mur3 Yes of course, check out my recipe called shish kabob and kefta kabob :)

  • Pita came out great! Thank you! and GO BUCKS!

  • @dmc31400 lol i'm glad you liked it :)

  • If I half the recipe, would I half the 3 hours too?

  • @nayomi17 no unfortunately not, you still have to let the dough rise :)

  • Even though I'm a self-taught chef, flatbreads have always been somewhat of an achilles heel for me - they always came out 'ok' but not quite what I wanted. Having watched this and tried out the method, however, I can happily say it's a recipe for perfect pitas. It also helps that your demeanour is friendly, knowledgeable and not patronising in the slightest, so well done and thank you x

  • @falcao1982 thank you so much for the wonderful comment, check out my site. I appreciate your support :)

  • Hey i don't like sugar so what can i use instead of it to make the yeast rise. Thank you

  • @LiyaHussain the sugar is very minimal that you will not taste it

  • Okay - it's been 30 minutes since I took DeDe's pitta bread out of my (small) oven. Without a doubt, this is the best pitta I have ever had - ever.

Also DeDe's hummous is rapidly disappearing along with the fresh warm bread. I followed everything to the letter and watched this video many times. No short cuts. No 'my ideas'. No improvisation.; just EXACTLY what I saw on this video. DON'T PANIC when you are kneading - patience and enjoy.

    DeDe is a Goddess.

  • @Flanntheman1 that's wonderful! I'm so glad you like it, check out my site for other recipes :)

  • Many thanks from Thailand! (Also your hummous recipe - excellent)

  • @Flanntheman1 thank you so much, check out my site for other recipes :)

  • Great tips! Thanks!

  • @ivymvv you are so welcome, check out my site :)

  • Whats the temp of the oven??

  • @abbscobutsna the written recipe and all directions are on my site :)

  • If we wanted to make them into pita chips, what would you recommend? =)

  • @n0lab3ls I would suggest cutting them up into little squares after baked and toast them in the oven on a pan. You can even season them with some garlic powder and Italian seasoning :)

  • Hey Dede, great video. I will have to try this recipe..Are you married?

  • @SHOGUNSKA yes happily married :)

  • @dedemed Aww, lol. That's awesome, I love love your videos. I like watching and trying new things. Keep up the great work. Very beautiful too. Ciao.

  • @SHOGUNSKA thank you so much for your sweet support :)

  • i tried it last night and was tested by a Greek - he said 'it's delicious! i don't even want the 'real thing' anymore!' LOL! :) great job with the video, thank you so much.

  • @venezuelandncr wonderful, I'm glad everyone enjoyed the recipe, great job :)

  • Greetings from Sterling Heights, MI !

I will try this when I get home.

    Looks easy and yummy!

  • @ozricus wonderful, I hope you liked it :)

  • Hi Dede,

    I love your recipes.

I made this bread, but it did´t became soft. It was pretty much a hard ball.

    What did i do wrong?

  • @saroura88 after you bake the pita bread, put it in a plastic bag and it will be soft, if you leave any bread out it will harden, pita bread gets hard extra fast so you much put it in a plastic bag :)

  • Using water from your "hot" tap is NOT drinking water!

Never use water from the hot tap! EEEK!

  • @DumpYourTelevision no worries, there is a filter system in place :)

  • I'd like to try doing a pita bread using Chia Flour. Also, maybe substitute macadamia nut oil for the olive oil, and use generous amounts of black cumin seeds (ala naan). For the sugar.. I'd like to use stevia but I'm not sure if the yeast will work with it. Is my Frankenstein pita idea half baked?

  • @enliteneer I would say it is a great idea except for the Stevia, I would use natural sugar instead, I'm not sure how sweeteners work with yeast, that could be a bit to risky...but other than that it sounds great :)

  • Sorry, but you are hot!

  • @dimitriosart thanks :)

  • I'm making Pita bread in class tomorrow. However the recipe that I have doesn't have sugar. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF USING OR NOT USING SUGAR MAKES A BETTER PRODUCT??? And we're going to use a gas/electric pizza oven to cook them. Does anyone have some advice?

  • @Natedawg422 how did the pita bread turn out. The sugar is something that helps activate the yeast, it is "food" for the yeast so that it can "grow" I always use sugar when using yeast, also the amount is so small, do NOT worry about it being sweet, you cannot even taste the sugar in it :)

  • @Shyamalacruise good job, it does take a few times to get the hang of it :)

  • i want a little bread table like that!

  • NO NEED EXPESIVE MASHIN,,,IT IS BASIC BREAD FOR ALL THINGS FOR PITA,PIZZA OR ROLLS OR LOAF TOO WITH WHEAT FLOUR--ONLY SHAPES AND THE TEMPERATURE IS CHANGING. YOU CAN FRY IT IN THE PAN TOO THIN ROLLED..LOVE IT...

  • @lslavychecker CORRECT, you don't need a machine, you can mix it by hand and yes you can use this basic dough recipe for many things :)

  • thanks i moved from Detroit down south and there are no coney islands so Ive decide to make my own chicken pitas. let you know how this turns out

  • @tye8503 did you like them? did you check out my site?

  • @tye8503 did you like them? did you check out my site?

  • Hi!.... i have a question.... i mix the cup of water with the flour and also the yeast.... but it's becomes practically a flour soup.... what am i doing wrong?????

  • @armandofarras did you check the written recipe on my site? you need to follow the written recipe and it will turn out perfect :)

  • wow...so easy to do!!! I just want to make Pita Bread to make my own home Chalupas :P. It's almost the same way we do Flour Tortillas here in Mexico. Thanx for Sharing :-)

  • @latinpitufo yes it is very similar :)

  • @dedemed u know what...they were so good....it taste like a bread we call "bolillo" o "torcido"

  • @latinpitufo perfect :)
