Gerry died one year ago today as of my posting. This cover sucks and so Gerry thought. This is a song about his experiences with being a street musician. Covers of someone elses bio's are like rewriting their life and claiming it as yours. Too bad he obviously didn't have the control to stop covers of the song he is most known for. Even though he had other hits, this one seems to be the one most played while others get no airplay again.

Gerry had some great follow up songs but when he wouldn't tour America, his popularity wound down and the songs wouldn't track well. And after listening to the original one I prefer this version. It's only generations question. For eg I love music of Queen and it was shocking when my niece said to me gladly that how fantastic is that new 5ive track We will rock you.

A generic beat out of a box added to a monotone vocal does not make for a GREAT song.
