Going into Glastonbury is like stepping into another world , i luv it there..u can buy just about anything , from gothic stuff to scented candles joss sticks , there's no discrimination how u you dress ,"anything goes" the atmosphere there is lovely and the people are really very friendly ...luv it when u pass the doorways of the shops u can smell the Aroma of the inscence ....i think its a lovely place :)
@RHBK89 i agree entirely. i live in evercreech near shepton mallet and feel very lucky to be so close to one of the most magical and legendary places in england. even though glasto has recently aquired a reputation for fakes, wasters and chavs and shit, i always look forward to my next visit simply beacause it feels like it's every englishman's true home :)
I have lived in Glastonbury for over 15 years now. Used to be a good place to live, but now it is full of false spiritualists and drunks/drug addicts. Nice history video, sure the tourists see it like this. I just did a video myself walking round glastonbury. Check it out if you want.
If there is a Avalon it isnt in Glastonbury. Knowing that Avalon comes from the Brytonic word Annwfyn wich means Underworld. Stonehenge is a mystery as well and theres a seremonial path to the river Avon wich is the place were ash of the death was being spread in the river. Avalon is called,in the sage, a mystical iland hidden in the shadows. Death people also become shadow in the Latin underworld. Also other legends. Only connection to Glastonbury is never been found bones. Also explained. Ty.
@Djrepsaj It is a myth, so it hardly matters. But Glastonbury was once a peninsula, so almost an island, and the Tor was known as the "glassy isle" ("ynys witrin" in Welsh). And of course, local folklore has it that the Tor is the entrance to the underworld. But "Avalon" doesn't come from "Annwfyn" (that would be etymologically impossible) but "afal" = "apple". Geoffrey of Monmouth called the mythical place "Insulis Avallonis" or "Insula Pomorum", the "Isle of Apples"...
...which refers to the ancient Irish myth which calls the otherworld home of some of the gods "Emain Ablach", "island which has apple trees". In the first Welsh translations of the Arthurian legends, Avalon was called "Afallach".
@rewboss The reason why monks called Glastonbury Avalon is because there was a need of money. Probably searched on wikipedia right? Well the only language in wikipedia wich names the Brytonic word is the Dutch wikipedia. You didnt look further than English wikipedia. And why should Avalon have apples? I mean if it is a myth they would be gold otherwise no need to think about it. Etymologically it would be possible it doesnt just mean underworld in brytonic it also means fairyworld.
@rewboss Also Stonehenge is a mystery never been explained. It has a seremonial path to the river avon. Also there should a magical boat that brings you to avalon if you can call it. The river is a place to honour the death. Avalon stands for underworld. Arthur has been buried there according to the myth. Arthur=Death. I dont believe anything neither and without evidence no avalon exists but the number 1 possibility is there I think.
@Djrepsaj Why shouldn't Avalon have apples? That's exactly the Celtic myth of the underworld. And "afal" is Welsh and comes from the Brythonic word "abal". And why would it be gold anyway? That's the Christian myth, not Celtic.
But the point, I think, is that Avalon is a myth and never existed. You're right to point out that Glastonbury was called Avalon by the monks for financial reasons, which is a point I made in the video.
what you suggest is a world where nothing is accepted as possible without proof and only the physical can be allowed, that would stifle the psyche and spirit, mankinds greatest achievements have involved the unproven, look at a great cathedral like Wells (where we were on wednesday) - would that have been built if proof of God was needed first?
Sometimes NOT knowing is all we need, its called a leap of faith
@baldandold Faith my friend.. Faith caused the death of more people in this world than you could ever imagine... Crusades, refusing medicines, inquisition and go on. The world has a scar.. a scar of all faiths.. Why they built Catherdrals... to make themselves feel better and letting the people think only those who God supported could achieve that... No it were the people that paid the price, atleast in many cases.
@baldandold@Djrepsaj, please don't start an argument about religion on my channel. It's never worth it, it just causes flame wars, and really, really despresses me.
@baldandold How do you know I have a PS3?? Anyway I haven't said there is no God. Just blaming religion.. believe in what you want if it makes you happy and gives you satisfaction... I will search further to find more of the truth.. if that is even there, nobody knows and nothing can state yes or no on that.. Kinda funny you knew I got a PS3.. my channel i guess? May your path give you satisfaction.. Goodbye.
Why do they sell witcraft things like spells and suchlike in some of the shops. When I was there one of the shops in the video said i could buy what looked like somehitng a cat had just brought up for £20 and my love problems would be over. I know the original Sommerset people resnt all what they call "the incomers". lived there for a few months. cant say i blame the locals.
I am consistently amazed by your skills. Subjects, camera, voice-over, editing. I would gladly watch a 30 minute show every week. You should try to market your show to some cable network and just travel Europe. I sincerely thank you for your edifying, entertaining and uplifting presentations!
Nobody knows why the Glastonbury Thorn flowers twice a year. The winter blossoms are smaller than the spring blossoms, and, even more mysteriously, trees grown from the seeds grow up to be perfectly normal hawthorns, and only flower once a year.
Knowing that many of the earlier inhabitants of southern England were Frisians that had been forced from their marshland on the European mainland due to massive flooding.(after 150 years or so many of them returned after the floods subsided) I have to wonder at the original meaning of the word "Tor", in the days of old.Knowing that in German the word can be interpreted as "Gateway."Frisia the area where many of my relatives originated, lived on a "terp" but there are varying spellings. Thanks!
Actually, "tor" is Celtic in origin, so has nothing to do with Frisia. It originally means "tower", and in most places indicates a rocky outcrop on a hill. In southwest England it also describes the hill itself, and in Somerset a "tor" can be any cone-shaped hill. The fact that Glastonbury Tor supposed to be the "gateway" to Hell is a coincidence.
Creepy voice-over....
