I'm just here to listen to the music. Music is a developing thing, and it's difficult to have millions of songs without some sounding similar. I'm definitely not here to say who is heavier than whom, I just want to hear more music. There are many songs i have yet to hear.
Wow, oh wow. To hear this now is like listening to Phil singing from the beyond. I FUCKING LOVE THIS. Even just 2 more albums from this lineup would have set the music world on it's collective ear and changed rock music forever. What could have fucking been....
So do the hipster doofuses always spell Chernobyl "Tshernobyl"?
Anyway, no one is disagreeing that Metallica was influenced by Lizzy, but the argument that Lizzy stole "Jump In the Fire" (or vice versa) is idiotic, which is I deleted all the dialogue from it prior to your comment.
I also have to take umbrage with this condescension about 'commentators' and 'color guys'. You sound like a fucking snob, and you commenting on it makes you no better than anyone else.
Oh, for fuck's sake. It's called "coincidence" people. Metallica didn't rip off Cold Sweat because it didn't exist yet, and Thin Lizzy didn't rip off Metallica because they never heard of them, let alone Jump In the Fire.
And that's assuming they even sound the similar, which they really don't. Can we move on now...
fuck what it sounds like......sit back and enjoy...........lizzy at their best. hope phil and ronnie are writing some good tunes in the skies. Some gig that'll be
Ok for one I play guitar, Dragons of Anarchy go check it out, just to prove my creds,
I had to go give listen to jump in the fire cause I was not familiar with it, so I could understand how some could believe that but come on this is Thin Lizzy and usually older dose inspire younger, even in my plying, and I am 40 something, Dick Dale, Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, those that came before me you can hear in my music what a great tribute to those who inspire
Thanks for all the material blacksabfan. I've had hours of pleasure listening to the vids etc. Yea, I'm old enough to have seen the real thing back in the 70's but lost track of em in the 80's. Wish I'd seen the line up with Sykes in it. Someone commented that John was a rock cock. I tell you, if I could play like he did,,, I'd be a rock cock too! Anyway man. Thank you from a Lizzy fan, since I first heard em. Still in love with ya Philo.
Pure accident, although I don't think they sound that much alike, and you certainly dont play them anything alike.
It's not like anyone copied each other, Lynott/Sykes and Mustaine are on different continents in 1982, and the former never even knew the later existed. All you conspiracy theorists need to let it go and just accept that a lot of songs have similar chord structures and melodies. Not a big deal.
Emerald was pretty heavy. Killer on the Loose had some heaviness. Angel of Death, despite the keyboards, was a heavy track. Lots of tracks besides this one on T&L were heavy...namely the title track, Holy War, and This Is the One.
WELL established? No way, never heard about "the big four"? Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. They were all founded around 81-83 - so this is still some of the first
@Paradisecity1992 ummm....the big 4 is not nearly the start of metal....it's the start of thrash, pretty much. Here's a list of metal bands that had material out before '82: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Rainbow, UFO, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Riot, Saxon, Accept, Venom, Anvil, Diamond Head, Samson, Angel Witch, Motorhead, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Blitzkrieg, Ozzy, Raven, Pentagram, and many many others.
The first metal band was Blue Cheer or Black Sabbath depending on you own view. The first real commercial one of the "metal generation" was probably Judas Priest.
True, metal is not what it was back then. Lizzy's music certainly became heavier when John Sykes joined them. Before that, they were more of a hard rock band, especially during the Robbo era.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
if you call this metal i guess you dont listen to metal nowdays....i love thin lizzy so i dont call them metal becouse i dont want to connect them with anything that metal respresents nowdays....
Which bands 'represent metal' then?Just because-lets say- 'old' Sabbath don't sound like what you think constitutes metal-then they aren't metal too i suppose?Knob.
Metallica? Better than Lizzy? Yeah they are so 'metal' they even covered an old Irish FOLK song made famous by Thin Lizzy called 'Whiskey In The Jar'. Ring any bells moron?
You realize that the three bands you mentioned have all covered Lizzy songs, and one of them even brought in a former member of Lizzy to do an album?
It seems to me your issue has more to do with music genre than Lizzy being bad. Lizzy is a hard rock band. They weren't metal. If you like metal then this isn't the place for you. That said, they influenced tons of metal bands, and the fact that they are still revered by these same bands means a lot more than your piddly-ass opinion.
Listen my mate recomended them to me. I listend to them. I didn't like them. Fair Enough. My favourite band is Avenged Sevenfold. So you have anything to say about them?
If your favorite band is Avenged Sevenfold...then you're already musically lost. I don't like as many new bands, but there's a few good ones around. A7X is NOT one of them. They are corporate pop-metal.
So is this the only Lizzy tune you listened to before you made your assessment, which by the way is a alternate version demo of the album track? Like I said before, if you don't like straight up hard rock, without a bunch of frills and shit, just solid songwriting and instrumentation, then you won't like Thin Lizzy. It's not metal, they aren't new, and they are certainly nothing like Ax7 (thank fucking god).
No.. I listend to a lot of Thin Lizzy.. To be in fact im going to see them live....If i like Iron Maiden...Metallica and so on why wouldnt i like old music??...
You already named those bands. I'm starting to get the impression you have a limited music catalogue...which sort of brings me back to my original point. You said Lizzy are bad. What's the basis for that? You listened to 5 songs one time and didn't like any of them? Did you think saying that in the comments section here was going to change people's minds? If people show up here to watch, it's because they like the band. You don't, and that would be ok, but yet you keep coming back...why?
Phil seems to take the vocal in a higher key than the more familiar version. Apart from that I personally don't hear a big difference between this "take" and the finished article that we all know so well. This is probably my favourite track from T&L, and it's damn good to hear this version of it. Sterling work as always Sabfan
Musically it's all the same. I think there's a lot of difference in the lyrics. I put them up in the description. There's no "stone cold sober and stone cold sweat/runnin' down the back of my neck" or "to lose means trouble/to win pays double". The ideas are there, but the this lyric isn't quite fleshed out enough as a lot of the verses repeat the same lines.
Nice work BSF! ... yes, Syksie's guitar solo sounds identical too. . . it really is remarkable just what a differrence the lyrics, singing and scanning/phrasing whatever can make!!
Thank´s a lot Sabfan! Once again, you´ve made my day! I´m listening to this with a great big smile on my face. I really love the demos! I could easily spend a couple of days and nights just listening to the difference between the demoversions and the final alb.versions. Hope you have a great weekeend and I hope for more gems to come in the near future! Thanx again man!!
Chills, every time I hear the guitars, old fucks like Adrian Vandenberg and Ynwie, thrived off this shit.
