  • when you break a pin take a small wrench or screw driver and reach in the sound hole and tap the pin up they break every now and then

  • your a dumbass

  • ty great explination helped me alot

  • Great poster in the background, long live the Floyd

  • i should have watched this before my first attempt lol

  • fuck you

  • close to the end i hear Hows It Gonna Be by Third Eye Blind. Nice choice of song

  • Muchas Gracias Señor

  • Thanks dude!!!!

  • My top string hasnt even wound around the peg yet and its already tuning. What is happeneing? im going from light to heavy strings btw i think that has something to do with it.

  • If you're having trouble with ill fitting bridge pins, a worn bridge plate, or just don't like bridge pins, Google QuickString.

  • Thanks man! I was apprehensive about restringing my guitar myself and you saved me a trip to Austin (I was going to ask musician-friends or my brother to instruct me on this but your vid was great.) -steve

  • how do i prevent the pins from popping up when i tune it?

  • I'm such a fucking idiot, I skimmed through the video without knowing about the extra inch I was supposed to leave, then I snapped my E string and now I basically need to buy a new pack, but then again I used the rest of the strings as practice strings, hopefully I'll install everything correctly tomorrow when I buy a new pack. (:

  • THIS IS WRONG do not coil your strings this way. Contrary to what he says, this is the wrong way to form an even coil. If you string it this way the coiled part of the string crosses over itself, making the string rub against itself as it vibrates, which causes your string to more easily go out of tune.

  • @AmericanDiplomat How should you coil them?

  • this really helpped, I always use to wrap my strings by hand and always found it hard, this is a great video, Thanks Shayne!

  • Thanks so very much Shayne!!! You really did a fine job and provided clear and easy directions.

  • hey man just thought i would let you know. your not supposed to take all the strings off the guitar. the reasoning for this is bc the strings put alot of pressure on the neck and it's important to maintain that constant pressure and minimizing the pressure decrease by replacing one string at a time. taking all that pressure off and then putting it back on can be very damaging to your guitar's neck and will eventually pay a huge toll on it

  • Shayne, I have been re-srtinging my guitars wrong for too many years to count. I know it's been several years since you made this vide, but it was most helpful and informative. Our babies( (guitars) should be treated like the presious things they are so thanks so much. God Bless!!!

    Nick

  • hey can someone please tell me is it necessary to have the winder ? thanks :) oh and i like ur pink floyd poster shane :)

  • Nice Pink Floyd poster mate :)

  • How did I know you'd have a southern accent before I even started the video? Thanks man, very helpful.

  • Nice job man

  • I got 5 seconds into your video when I saw the naked women poster in the background. Not really appropriate for a video about guitars.

  • @8kowwife Considering it is a Pink Floyd poster, it's completely appropriate you fucking moron

  • Helpful!

  • I have no winder...I will do it manually XD! I have a question though...What if the string snapped off of the metal ball...Do I have to tie in between the grooves?

  • out of all the tutorials, yours is the probably the best by far

  • Love the video very helpful thanks so much!!

  • So Simple, Yet Right to the Point. Thanks a Bunch for this.

I'm Re-Stringing my Squier Telecaster, and this Helped me out :)

  • I enjoyed the video :)

  • At first, I thought that he said, "...and thanks for checking out the god." at the end. (it's "guide")

    Good post. Thanks.

  • I enjoyed the video :)

  • You helped me so much now I can finally start playing my guitar again lol

  • I love you man.

I need to rewatch these guides from time to time because I forget which way I need to have the string wound up (under and then top). Good posting man.

Also, you have inspired me to pick one of those amazing planet waves winders. I bought one the other day for 2 bucks but 10 dollars seems like a much more worth while investment.

    Thanks again!

  • This was very helpful...but you're so weird! Lol

  • @EMBuble WTF are you talking about... this dude is far from weird from what i've seen.

  • my string keeps slipping because of this thanks alot

  • Thanks a heap!

  • how do i get the pin to stay on it keeps popping off

  • how do i tell when a string is tight enough? i broke two strings today tuning my Fender Acoustic.

  • @Dragmack Generally, the tighter a string is, the higher it's pitch. If you have a guitar tuner, use it and tune until its at the right pitch. The pitches that the strings should be from the lowest to highest pitch are EADGBE. It you don't know how to use a tuner, there are plenty of videos showing how to. If you don't have a tuner, go to virtualpiano . com and click on the keys with the correct letter for the string, and try to match the pitch (not as high as the piano but as a lower octave)

  • Nice video! Easy to understand steps, and it's way less complicating this way than the way my instructor showed me :P

On another note - I love my new Ibanez, I tightened the string too much and it turns out, the guitar's build to let the string slip if it is too tight, so I don't have to go out and buy more strings! :D

  • Really great video, edited well, and the steps were easy to follow! :)

    Thanks for the video.

  • Good video.. Well done

  • what do I do if the pin breaks off? fml i tried to take it out but it just broke. its like a 30 year old guitar :(

  • Nice guitar and sweet pink floyd poster

  • really great video.

short, sweet and to the point, but still told me everything i needed to know.

    thanks so much : )

  • thanx!

  • Here`s a great way to put to use those old, yet strings you have no need for anymore:

    secondstringsproject dawt org

A guitarist named Kevin Deane collects used string sets and donates them to needy musicians from various places in the world where quality strings are rare and unaffordable. Don`t snip or throw away your used strings! Someone out there would be more than happy to use them.

  • @r053 Thnx For telling me this, I'll Be sure to Check him out. I was Born In Argentina, so yeah, Strings were hard to come by :(

  • Thanks but I can't get the pegs on the main body of the guitar to stay in. When I pull on the strings the pegs pop right back off straight away no matter how hard I put them in. Could you maybe get a better shot of you performing that bit too 'cos your hand blocks the view.

  • omg thank you for this video

  • nice vid,Shane, ty! =]

  • I'm 55 and played since I was 16.. I hate stringing a guitar and was going to take my Gallagher to the shop today (as usual) for stringing.. I'm so stupid, I didn't even know my string winder also doubles as a pin puller (duh).. I used to put a dime on finder, go through the sound hole and push up. This is easy and a quick to show that.. great video and good job on the audio and filming of it...

  • CALM DOWN!!!!!!!

  • how do you know where to kink the excess string?

  • My strings tend to keep breaking near the saddle (on my acoustic, of course).

Do you think I have a "sharp" saddle that needs sanding down?

  • You're the shit man

  • Wow thanks you are awesome

  • u saved me a long trip to guitar center thnx.

  • Shayne, where did you pick up the tool to rest ---your guitar on for restringing? great video

    thanks again..

  • Thanks man very helpful five stars

  • Thank you very much Shane,

your video is the best of all Ive seen. You are not trying to sell me anything and I appreciate that.

  • you would be an awesome hand model

  • tanks man

  • awesome video man! ;D

  • i have a question i was doing this and when i got it to E it was really loose and ratly so i turned it up and i got to about a d tuning and it snapped. its eather to rattly or broken do u have some sugjestions

  • what does restrig actually do ?

  • THanx Shayne,.... I Really needed this ..

  • Your welcome :)

  • damn. i like your pinkfloyd poster

    where can i get one?

  • i... want that picture! those it have a name?

  • very good guide :)

  • every time i try winding the new string in, the pin just pops out. can you help?

and i have that poster :D

  • use some glue

  • very helpful, thanks a lot

  • Amazingly well done.

  • Yes

  • I just realized that at the end of the Video, Hows it going to be is playing in the back ground. Very nice!!!

  • Shayne, I realized your info was dead on to the way I wrap and tie on my strings, so I began to check out your room's background. The framed picture of the girls sitting in the background seems to a copy of another I've seen somewhere else........

  • thanks for helping me with my first re stringing!

  • Clear, concise, well done! Thanks.

  • Is it bad to take all the strings off at the same time, instead of one by one? I thought that it needed to keep some tension

  • It should be fine with all the strings off. It's built to withstand all that tension, but shouldn't be hurt without it.

  • @shaynegibbs Okay, I'm getting ready to re-string my guitar for the first time, and my teacher says it's bad to take all the strings off all at once, and I saw that question and you said it shouldn't hurt

But do you have to go one by one on a SQUIER Stratocaster

  • @shaynegibbs Okay, I am getting ready to re-string for the first time, and my teacher told me to never take all the strings off at once..... but then I see vids of ppl taking all of them off and then doing the low E string and guess what, the others are off

can you do that on a Squier Strat Electric guitar?

  • @FunkyRoad96 take them all off there's nothing wrong with it. I have worked in a shop with professional luthiers and they take them all off too.

  • @rupertacdc I got it re-strung finally, and my teacher (the sameone who told me to not take all strings off at once), and I guess I misheard what he said. But we took all off at once, cleaned the pickguard, re-strung it, tuned it up, and bam. New guitar strings, also fixed the input jack on the guitar as well lol

  • @johnyp321 its better to keep the tension, i think it tunes faster also to strech the strings is good aswell.

  • Brother that is a dam good video!!! Very informational.

  • thank you for the video!!

i 've a question, after how long do we clean our guitar?

  • You should clean your guitar every time you change the strings, but feel free to give it a quick wipedown with a dry cloth once a week or so, and definitely if you've spilled anything on it, or gotten it excessively dirty.

  • thanks for the quick reply!!

    and for the video
