At the Grammys this year, I listened to Diana Ross speak about Mr. Ashford's death and the terrible sadness and loss she felt.

Man. I hate to see people who was an inspiration of and vessel for and expression of love. Since 2000 we have lost so many greats of old school and some new school. I just can not say enough.

Any fan of Diana Ross's knows she doesnt like funerals and sadness,combined with attention on her at such a sad time.I am sure she spoke to Valerie Simpson personally to give her condolences,and apologies for her absence.Its ashame that people always look at the negative. I know she loved Nick Ashford very much.

@enayb I really cant blame diana, I only went to One funeral and that was my moms who passed in 08. I had said it would be the Only funeral I would attend and have not attended one before or after, its the Most Painful thing in the world to witness when you Really Love someone to see them put in the ground is unbearable. Diana is one of those people like myself, Avoid funerals. its a Persons right to chose to attend or not to attend. I have Missed many an I am sure Ms Ross will Miss many more.

Last funeral she went to was my uncle in 1980 that tramatize her..she's never went to another funeral...she said even if My Mom sibblinga whoever die she won't be their.Me I'm like a zombie! @enayb well me and your sister MAY BE TWINS separated at birth. I'm with her. The Only thing that came close to the pain was the twin towers in my home city nyc collasping on 911. I nearly died from grief combined with not knowin if my family members got out as i had a couple Working in the towers but some how escaped by either not being in the towers or near the ground floors making it eazier to escape. Death to me is too painfulful so I avoid funerals. an remember them as they Were.

This is not the place to trash anyone who didn't attend Nick's funeral. As for Diana Ross, well these sad events always bring out her haters' comments, and it's ALWAYS a case of "damned if she does, and damned if she doesn't"

All that matters here is that we lost one of the greatest song writer/producer/singers of our time.

Friends, we cannot sit behind our computers and pass judgement on anyone regarding their attendance at funerals. Most of us know that grieving is a very personal thing and Diana just doesn't do a lot of funerals. Read Diana's statement about Nick. Diana, Nick and Valerie were good friends for decades. Let's honor Nick by showing the same compassion toward one another as the lyrics of the great Ashford/Simpson/Ross anthem "Reach Out and Touch". I wish you all peace, blessings and love.

The truth is Diana Ross's solo career would not of gotten of the ground so quickly with ASHFORD and SIMPSON. For Diana Ross of all the non singing singers NOT to show up was very very disrespectful. Valerie Simpson actually song all of the hard parts for Diana Ross on those albums that Ashford and Simpson produced. Valerie abd Nick kick started Diana Ross's solo career. Diana Ross lives in New York and should have been the first person in there. As for Berry Gordy, WELL!!!!

Sometimes,when a love for someone goes way back to your youth,and its concreted ther, rra loss of live is too hard to bare,Remember Diana Ross is a very sensitive woman at times,and Im not quite sure she is even over MJ's death. not to start an argument bcuz i do agree that she should have been there...

@ramona2400 A) Diana Ross was on tour and dedicated every show to Nick singing Reach out & Touch as an encore. Clips of it are on Youtube, stupid. B) Diana Ross lives in LA. C) Diana's first solo record was Someday we'll Be Together which Berry stole from her to give The Supremes a boost to launch the new group. D) Valerie never sang on Ross' songs - they sound nothing alike, E) You are one big dumbass.

@TheMotownManiac I'm a HUGE Diana Ross fan and must say that I agree with you on "A)", however, you are wrong on "D)". Valerie Simpson did in fact sing on Miss Ross' songs. Ashford and Simpson wrote, produced and sang background on her first solo album titled DIANA ROSS, 2nd album SURRENDER, & the ever-so-fabulous 'The Boss' (written and produced by Ashford & Simpson) !!
