  • A good death for a great man.

  • This death is a bit...homoerotic...

  • How things have changed. Nowadays it would have been like: Oh, no, don't kill yourself! Back then was: Need a Roman sword? Sure. Use mine! O.o

  • wtf this isnt what happened, anthony killed himself because he thought cleopatra had done the same, but she didnt, but when she found out that anthony was dead she killed herself.

  • @TheGameLover666 this happened in tv series as well.

  • @TheGameLover666 Erhh no. Thats the movie version to tear-jerk the audience. Try to actually research history before making such an absolutist thing like that. What hapenned here is much closer to what happened. In this version Augustus is actually much more civil to her than he was in real life. She had to convince him to let her go pay her respects to Anthony before being imprisoned. She took that oportunity to kill herself. The rest is pretty acurate.

  • @TheGameLover666 *absolutist statement

  • @TheGameLover666

I think you've got it confused with Romeo and Juliet...

  • @Subartimaeus no,that is wat happened thats where shakespeare got his inspiration

  • @TheGameLover666 Shakespeare got the inspiration for "Romeo and Juliet" from an Italian Fairytale.

  • "Anything to get rid of this hangover "

Now that is a man going to his death

a vulgar , sex mad , drug addled , hedonist ..true But a Soldier of Rome

  • One of the most incredible scenes I have ever watched...

  • Such a sad ending for Marks story!:(

  • He was a soldier of Rome... Honor him.

  • such a funny character i laughed at the battle of phillipi because of marc antony

  • oh so romeo and Juliet came from cleopatra amd antony love story.

  • Actually, the diaphragm is a muscle and could still work if not severed completely

  • I think the idea was to angle the blade upwards, hopefully knackering not only the diaphragm but a lot of the lungs, and maybe the heart too. Thats how id go about it anyway...

  • I just have to say that this is the way real men die.

  • i hear they are remaking Cleopatra with Angelina Jolie but I dont think they can do better than Rome

  • @amensupremera i think adding any big name actors to movies like this ruins them.

  • If anyone thinks getting skewered in the diaphragm would result in a death as painless as they showed here your nuts. Your diaphragm is the muscle that controls your lungs and you would slowly and painfully suffocate. It would be like getting the wind kicked out of you but 10x worse and you'd never re-catch your breath.

  • Females attempt suicide more than males but males are more successful at it. Of course Anthony was misled but he's 1 to Cleo's 2 this episode.

  • Despite becoming a kind of "villain", Marc Anthony's death is very sorrowful

  • That was one hell of a cry at 0:45. lol

  • its ashame the Romans did not have kitana he would have got a quikcer death

  • it looked like anthony was doing the jitterbug , while vorenus was doing the charleston. talk about octavians boys in the second act , they made the boy from big E , look like a couple of flappa girls who were a little loosey on the Old 'Gin And Juice.

  • @98rawtom actually its marcus antonius, actually

  • Purefoys reaction to Vorenus saying "Its been an honor..." deserved a fucking Emmy.

  • I wonder if he would have had the same reaction if Atia had killed herself... I hope not.

  • It's funny how these suicide notes from women all say the same thing (minus the come quickly part in my case). Fuck it!!!

  • fucking hangover lol

  • James Purefoy is such a great actor!

  • Beautiful, truly. They captured the essence of the story.. And whilst we may never know the truth, historically .They portrayed an ending worthy of the legend. that is the birth of the Roman empire.

  • I really love this scene in these beatiful series. They really did show both the errors and the majesty of the Roman Empire. The Romans may have been brutal but we owe them so much.

I f there is an afterlife I would love to have a chat with Mark Anthony.

  • Which series is this? There are so many different Rome stories.

  • the series is rome

  • This is Rome HBO....a wonderful series.

  • i was plauged with indecision as to how to name my second born son, the first of course being after myself. Alex. But his performance was soooooo brilliant that it left no doubt in my mind what the second would be called, Anthony....

  • Here it is then... anything to get rid of this fucking hangover!!! Genius!

  • This was a great series. I guess one could be upset that only 2 seasons were made, but i'm happy they made them.

  • The reaction of marc Anthony to Cleopatras death is so painful that you manage to feel sorry for essentially a very unsympathetic character. Brilliant series

  • Antony I love you...

  • best character in this series hands down...such a vulgar bastard

sadly it looks like he's doing a shitty show on abc

  • Octavian was at his door. he took the honorable way out.

  • an honorable death for a soldier

  • why did cleopatra wanted to make antony believe that she was dead?

  • Yeah I suppose that is one way of getting rid of a hangover.

  • they dont make em like they used to

  • The sound antony makes after reading cleo's letter is heartbreaking. :-( James Purefoy is such a wonderful actor.

  • LOL That was random!

  • i was bored. sorry. i thought it was funny this afternoon....

  • great man he was

  • He was a twatface, all he did was try to be more than he was, which was basically a glorified grunt.

  • Unfair. It wasn't that simple!

Anyway, he wasn't just a grunt. You do not become Consul and leader of half the known world by being a grunt. He was rather shortsighted thoughto not realise how bad his falling in love with an Eygptian and promising her the right to rule would look to the Romans. He gave Octavian ammunition to use against him.

James Purefoy is DAMN good though!

  • He was a vulgar brute. Not a grunt. He was actually quite clever, but he acted in passion and on a whim far too often than he did in intellect.

Anybody that makes two naked she-slaves fight in gladiator style combat can't be all THAT bad.

  • antony died first in history

  • he dies first here too.

  • this gives the impression he did not

  • the letter Cleopatra wrote was false. she isseen alive later but then commits suicide.

  • whoever plays Marc Antony really has awesome acting.

  • Its a shame you cut the scene so early. The ritual re-patria of his corpse is a very telling and important scene. Vorenus makes him in death what he wasn't in life. Also you cut Vorenus' reaction to Cleopatra entering the room .. alive! Bad editing my friend. :(

  • Anything to get rid of this fucking hangover!

  • A better death than being transported to Rome and getting strangled in the Mamertine prison.

  • What movie is this?

  • Rome-HBO serie

  • antony was a better soldier than anything. he fucked it up by being an administrator

  • I totally agree, Octavian fault

  • I think his failed Eastern campaign and his defeat by Octavian say otherwise.

  • if it had been a ground battle- antony woulda won cuase he had more experience in that matter. actium was a sea battle, where his own roman ground troops were not experienced to be sailors alongside cleopatras ships.

Octavian refitted his roman ships to be quickler than the heavy egpytian ships, and his men been training for a sea battle. So yeah- antony woulda whooped octavians ass in a ground battle.

  • Don't forget Agrippa. He managed to secure victory at Mutina against Antony.

  • actually hershes and panzia did most of the work

  • Hirtius and Pansa commanded the state forces. They did not command Octavian's legions, who did play a significant part in the battle. At any rate, Hirtius and Pansa were not even soldiers, so it does not speak very highly of Antony that they managed to beat him.

  • THIS WHOLE MOVIE IS AWESOME

  • It's a damn good sword
