@osemade72 and @heartspiritnsoul - My response is so long after your posts, I just hope you find this and that you are both doing well. I don't have anything profound to say, but both your words touched me & I truly hope you both are doing okay now after your hurt and losses. I went thru a time like that 40 yrs ago when I was only 15 and lost my grandparents and my mom within a very short time. It might sound corny, but Jesus really is The Answer. Anyway I truly hope you both made it thru.
This has become my favorite Marc Cohn song, even beyond "Walking In Memphis." It reaches in, touches your soul, and tells you there IS a future. While not having the success of say a James Taylor or Carole King, I think Marc Cohn is at that level. This song especially puts him up there. Now to be able to see him in concert!
i remember a time when three of my friends and i were driving to chicago for a weekend. i was driving and eeryone else was passed out. walking in memphis came on and i decided to keep driving and we ended up i memphis for the best weekend ever
Marc Cohn is one of the most amazing and talented artists. I had the honor of seeing him play at the Fargo Theater and to see him in person is the icing on the cake. I have been a fan of his from his very first C.D. Fantastic voice, Fantastic songwriter , performer and class act.
I should have listened to this song first thing in the morning, would have made my day. Had such a bad day, but right now I'm smiling, as I always am when I listen to "Live out the string"
I've never really listened to him, but have recently listened to him on youtube. I like him so much I bought all his albums that my local CD store had, and have even ordered one not in stock. That's not the first time I've bought an artist that youtube's turned me on to. I think youtube is great for artists.
In 1998 i suffered from depression after loosing both my best friends and my girlfriend in the space of 4 months. Marc Cohen saved my life, his soulfull lyrics allowed me to escape my situation. I travelled to Memphis from Australia as a result of his song. He has been my inspiration to seek out life and love. Listen to his music True Companion, Silver Thunderbird etc. Get lost in his lyrics. M
@ozemade72 I am so glad you were able to change your life around after the heartache you went through. It definitely is a great song that some how touches ones soul. Take care from another Aussie...
it's kadison... and agree 100%.. very similar.. i like marc a lot.. or wouldn't be here viewing it.. but joshua kadison is at a higher level... awesome.. and relatively unknown and underappreciated like marc cohn.
as usual, cant listen to one of his songs without wanting to cry...he's just amazing. Just a question, is there a little mistake at the beginning of the song? (1.21min)apart from that...he's just the best songwriter and singer I've ever heard. Thanks for posting and sharing this emotion. Nad
id never heard of him, i couldnt sleep and they had good morning america on tv here in australia at 5 in the morning, i was drawn to this song, so fucking good.
Great singer-songwriters touch your soul. There are so few of them. In today's pop/flash star-for-the-moment, vote for me America world, we rarely find someone who can weave the magic of words and music that cause us to catch our breath, to blink back a tear. Steve Goodman & Jim Croce were among them. Whether he's Walking in Memphis, or Living Out the String, Mark Cohn is one.
I saw him live for the first time on Thursday night. His concert was everything I expected & more. I told him that if I had known he came to Seattle so often, I'd have come to Seattle more often.
Also, got to meet Amy Correia. She's behind him in the video. Lot's of fun to talk with & her CD is awesome, too. I'm glad it was there for sale because it saved me hours of trying to find her. She opened the show.
I just saw him perform this live in Harrisburg, PA and it was amazing...so glad he's back. He opened with this song and it made me cry...very powerful!
