Filipinos should show a routine different from the US tradition of cheerleading. UP was successful with this although a bit off with the stunts but still promising to give Filipino as well as International viewers a new and unique style of cheerleading routine without disregarding the skills and techniques. GO UP!

And NCC is just using the chearleading term because the Philippines adapted it from the American Competition. But hey, where are the chants?...all I see now are dancing and stunts.

Ateneo had a chant during the eliminations.. Chants can be removed from the routine in the finals. UP had a chant at last year's NCC. Watch Top Gun Lrg Coed Worlds 05-06 here in youtube to see what I mean. They also removed their chant.

1 thing why UAAP r d best contenders when it comes to cheerdance competitons, it's because they work hard 2 maintain d tradition of Filipino cheerdancing & d originality & trademarks of each UAAP school. Dey try 2 give d viewers a diff' taste of cheerdancing. Unlike other cheerdance competitions u could see similarities n their routines trying to copy American cheerleading. Same dances, same choreographed jumps which is somehow good in their performance but nt pleasing 2 d eyes.

Ive seen 4 squads who have d same tosses, jumps, dances etc. And another thing... UP, ADU and ADMU joining ds competition brought their trademarks & dey may nt b d best bt sure dey impressed d people w/ innovative stunts, dances & gud cheer mixes. NICE JOB!

i think the difference of american cheerleading from what you call "filipino" cheerleading is that american cheerleading has clear cut technical rules while "filipino" cheerleading is more "perya" and its judging is subjective meaning it is based only on the juges' personal preferences (like for example, judges in the UAAP CDC are chosen representatives from each school). I think with NCC, Filipinos will begin to see the light of what true cheerLEADING means!
