While it's true you're not supposed to play so high to the point of being across the fingerboard (it's not just a rule, the reason is that you get a better sound from playing lower on the strings. the lower, the richer.), I could see he's not exactly a professional, and did very well despite all that! That's all you can ask for. I hope he keeps at it. :-) The pianist did great, too.
