Moatillatta is one of the transformations that Cerpin taxt has during his journey in the comatorium (induced in Eriatarka by a doctor under orders from the Tremulants).
In this song moatillatta wakes from is sleep and kills all the people of Topilzen, who were all brainwashed by Koral Mataxia, an obese bear that rules the city. Then Moatilliatta eats half of the body of Koral Mataxia. And In the end of the song Cerpin Taxt wakes from his coma, escaping from the comatorium.
OMAR sounds great. considering he writes his parts to sound abstract and demented. CEDRIC, however, sounds like shit. Not that he would ever read this but just in case: Hey Cedric, maybe if you didn't write outside your range you wouldn't be flat in every live song i've ever heard you sing. ever.
after giving my previous comment more thought, maybe if Omar would give Cedric a clue as to what key they're in instead of being all over the fucking place, Cedric would be a better live singer. Is it worth having guitar so awesomely artistic if it's one cause of abysmal live singing? (assuming that it is one cause. One cause is DEFINITELY Cedric creating parts that are unrealistically high.)
You don't understand the idea behind TMV performances or punk rock or anything they are influenced by. If you wanna hear the song with all of its perfections then go listen to the CD...the live experience is not for you.
no idea why he never sings well. there are a few vids where he alters the melody and does a great job, but you're right, more so than not he's missin notes. i think he kinda does it on purpose, a combination of artistic license and mayve (sorry cedric if you read this) laziness.
I saw an interview where they (omar and cedric) mention they like to improvise a ton, and sometimes the songs just "fall on their face". they said they like to press on and pretend like nothing happened. no clue if it's drug related.
@nubbinnoob yea i only read about that interview havent actually found the real interview. but also aside from them loving to improvise. but by the look on their faces i highly doubt that is part of the improv lol. theyve admitted to being totally obliterated on stage many times. lol.
Their new stuff can suck just so long as they don't lose any more members to drugs. They can write garbage the rest of their career just as long as they never stop touring this album.
The "thong" is a jock strap or something, when you're going insane like Cedric it can sometimes be painful on the nuts if they're swinging around everywhere, lol.
@BigFackah lol im high as kite too, but i paused and looked and there white and red its not a f'ing thong for christ sake lol. cedric is the fuckin man! and omar and the rest of the band, de loused best album of the decade.
Well- I don't care how you slice, dice, interpret or analyze it. IMHO, this band is doing something entirely different than anyone else. This sets it apart. You either like it, or you don't. I happen to like it. They are innovative and profound. It's important to push the boundaries of music, especially if it's not immediately understood. Others will incorporate this style into their music. I don't understand a lot of what they do but it doesn't matter. It matters that it pleases the ear.
and you seem to speak pretty clear english, man i didnt know they taught people living on the streets how to speak another coherent language. point is, your 14, you havent even yet seen what life is going to puke in your face. the fact that you spend so much time commenting on youtube tells me that your not suffering. i lived in a shack for almost 2 years and had about one sandwhich a day, i live with multiple health issues. what do you have. same with omar. he's live a full live, you havent.
lol, that 14 year old kid is funny, saying maybe when they grow up a little, your fucking 14. there 30. i think they understand life a tad bit more than you. oh and poor you, such a hard life, had to steal a laptop from someone who worked hard for the things they own. yeah, real rough. that just makes you a lazy hoodlum, i think maybe when you grow a little, you'll understand things more clearly. if lifes so rough steal food, not a myspace account.
cedric should watch his live performances in order to improve them. i know that singing and mantaining that register all the concert is rather complicated, but his voice has also evolve, and now he can reach high-notes more easly and clean (it's noticeable in the part 'IN MY HEART' of the song 'with twilight as my guide').
well omars guitar is very light and he plays 13 guage strings, so him throwing his guitar around a lot is a lot easier to do since its harder to bend 13 guages and the fact that his guitar is so light. i have a heavy guitar with 10 guages and its hard to throw that shit around :/
I think Ifs wins that one, if only for spelling 'faggot' right. To TMV in general though, I say never put on an album what you can't accurately re-do at a live show.
Well it is live. Its not supposed to sound exactly like the album, and the songs should sound a bit different. Also, Omar layers his guitar parts a lot, and hes only one guy so it cant sound exactly either. They do what they can and it sounds good to me.
Not to disagree with you, the guy is mad creative, but I think his actually playing suffers from all the swinging around he does. They are a great band for the music they make, it's a shame the music gets lost a little by his 'showmanship'. Just an observation.
@IfIfsandands naaaaaaaw Omar just puts a lot of energy out with his music and sometimes that energy manifests itself physically as well as audibly. That's all.
lol, I hear you, I do love the first few record they made, so I am a fan. I just feel it takes away from the music. Having said that, when they get a bit older and become better players, maybe then we'll see them really shine.
its that phisical energy that is channeled through the guitar. sometiems it takes a flail to make that sound along with some delay reverb and wah. maybe a little phase or octaver
Ahh dude, I play music myself and I know the difference between something being played well and not. I don't think Omar is that good a guitar player...there, I said it! I think you are all being very kind to him. If It were my band and he played like that, I'd take him aside and tell him to concentrate on his playing rather than his shaping!
@IfIfsandands hey, i'm still a little confused. how do you feel about The Mars Volta? Do you think Omar is technically good live? Are you the only one on this thread who completely gets art, and that's why you feel the need to comment on a consistant basis and tell everyone how you truely feel? Do you feel bad for yourself because you've had a rough life? please explain it once more to all of us. we a re all concerned about you and your feelings on music. :)
Having said that, he is a creative guy, TMV wouldn't be what they are with out his gifts. My point is feel is different to technical prowess. I don't feel Omar is that technically good live.....and kind people, it's just an opinion and one I don't need telling on! Peace!!!
That aimed at me? Be brave & just say 'You don't get art'. I loved the bands first two records because the music's so damn good and creative. I know it gets them attention, that's probably the reason for it but the power is in the music, not the throwing around of a guitar.. What annoys me is, Omar can do that and get away with it, yet the best musicians in the band, he sacks ie Jon Theodre and the T. Pridgen. I just think that's inconsistent.
I dont know how people just like the first two albums when everything from the tremulant EP to Octahedron has been creative in its own way, if they just made they same albums with the same sound and feel then that wouldnt be real creative in fact it be the opposite. but at the end of the day they make records and you dont so just leave the real fans to enjoy there music without your opinion.
aww, if you're that hurt, run to your mama. If I am bring fully truthful, only de loused is any use. The reason? Because those two are not half as good as they think they are, they can write a song, but need other's involvement, like Rick Rubin. They have been disappearing up their holes since then and that's why people are turning form them. As for 'kill for weed', it's about time you chilled out and had another bifta, you get ratty when you haven't had a smoke.
TMV is just to much for your simple minded ass, "say hi to your Mom for me" what the fuck is that? what are you 17 shut the fuck up and go play flute you fagit.
Faggot, it's spelt faggot you illiterate fuck. You can't even get an insult right! LoL On second thoughts, lay off the weed, it's turning that brain to mush. good luck and long life to you.

I love the mars volta, however I believe the vocals need some definition when they play live. But I am ofcourse used to the superbly sang studio albums.
the beginning is hella high energy, i love it. c.bix even does a donkey kick, ha but i can understand why they dont like plying this song live, it has a lot ups and downs, and im only assuming they dont like to play this one coz its very rare nowadays that you will hear this jam on the setlist, and i remember omar saying that some songs get old and arent as fun to play at shows, The track from the studio is still good though :)
get your facts straightened out. the mars volta formed '01, mastodon's been out since '99. besides, all band's influence each other to sum degree, i simply said that they were prob influenced by Mastodon's early crazy sounding style.
seen them twice with HIGH EXPECTATIONS and was severely let down both times.... i love mars volta but holy shit man, there only so much you can handle before it just becomes random noises piercing your brain like needles while your on acid..
You can get to know more about shit by chewing on some of mine, "dude." I'll watch what I want and say what I want, and if you got a problem with that you can suck ass and die, motherfucker
On the back of Vox AC30 amplifiers (like Omar's) there is an information label reading "This Apparatus Must Be Earthed" I think somewhere it said that he played off of that.
its a long, long story involving cannibalism, torture of small children, wild boars, mass slaughter, and a giant-ass, heroin-addicted pterodactyl named moatiliatta. read the book.
well, actually cerpin is a character who attempts suicide by overdose, but ends up in a week long coma in which he is confronted by creatures (or, rather, products of his own psyche that have become sentient) known as the tremula metacarpi. these creatures torture cerpin in order to "make him worthy" of becoming their god, and they turn him into a giant pterodactyl-like god named moatiliatta. upon waking from his coma, he finds the real forld unsatisfactory and jumps off a bridge.
wow.. i thought the story was completely different.. i've read the lyrics though and i can find no connection to the story, i guess i have to read the book or analyze the lyrics more carefully.. By The way people, they have a new record , octahedron, it's amazing, as is every single one of their albums, and it's also the most straightforward , in terms of songwriting and song structure. check it out!
It's not their best album though...still i suggest you get it but dont expect it to be better than Amputechture. although it is better than The Bedlam In Goliath
believe me, there is so much crap music out these days i'm not comparing their albums with each other. i prefer knowing that all their albums are fantastic, which they are, from tremulant to octahedron. hell, even the at the drive in albums were masterpieces.
He should just use something on his voice to make him sound in tune. I have to admit the version on the album sounds unbeleiveable. Did he use voice enhancers on Deloused? I've never heard Cedric come close to nailing that shit on any live recording.
well, that makes sense. the part about him not sounding like the album, i mean. you, know, seeing as the mars volta make it a point NOT to sound like the album. just watch an interview.
This is terrible, and by terrible of coarse I mean absolutly unbelievable, and by absolutly unbelievable I mean straight awesome. By straight Awesome I mean TMV is one of the best bands of this decade
I bet they'll go back. Bedlam was good but I think they might have been holding back on their typical experimentation because critics and fans complaining about the spaciness. Or maybe not, but I doubt the band will never go back to the "old school days".
But what reason would they have to revisit a sound they already played? I mean, building off of it is one thing, but they've been doing that since Francis anyway. The Mars Volta is a band that will always be moving forward at a thousand miles an hour, unrelenting and unapologetic.
oh that poor light fixture...i wish i couldve seen them back in those days. oh well, i guess ill have to settle for the fucking 9 man mini orchestra that theyve become. ill still nut myself at their show
The electric afros, the Cedric-buck, the legend guitar flips, the Juan precision, the great IKey's Keys, THE MARS VOLTA.

The Mars Volta have convinced me that this apparatus must be unearthed... though i don't know what that even means hahahaha
stathistate 2 years ago
probably means some kind of machine, or system of operations, literal or metaphorical, must be "exposed" hahahaha thats just my interpretation
YoSoyAdamAgain 2 years ago
On the back of Vox AC30 amplifiers (like Omar's) there is an information label reading "This Apparatus Must Be Earthed" I think somewhere it said that he played off of that.
irrabmaralekim 2 years ago
i heard the same thing.
alocaltragedyx 2 years ago
there goes my explanation ahhaha
YoSoyAdamAgain 2 years ago
its a long, long story involving cannibalism, torture of small children, wild boars, mass slaughter, and a giant-ass, heroin-addicted pterodactyl named moatiliatta. read the book.
shaolinkungfu666 2 years ago
i thought it was about a guy cerpin taxt who died from an overdose and is based on a friend of the band who died.. i didn't know it gets this weird!
stathistate 2 years ago 2
well, actually cerpin is a character who attempts suicide by overdose, but ends up in a week long coma in which he is confronted by creatures (or, rather, products of his own psyche that have become sentient) known as the tremula metacarpi. these creatures torture cerpin in order to "make him worthy" of becoming their god, and they turn him into a giant pterodactyl-like god named moatiliatta. upon waking from his coma, he finds the real forld unsatisfactory and jumps off a bridge.
shaolinkungfu666 2 years ago 5
wow.. i thought the story was completely different.. i've read the lyrics though and i can find no connection to the story, i guess i have to read the book or analyze the lyrics more carefully.. By The way people, they have a new record , octahedron, it's amazing, as is every single one of their albums, and it's also the most straightforward , in terms of songwriting and song structure. check it out!
stathistate 2 years ago 2
ya the lyrics are about the story...
thats why u prolly didnt see a connection.
the story was written and then song lyrics were written about it.
so 4 example, say Dr Suess wrote a poem about his own story cat in the hat...get it?
nirv420 2 years ago
It's not their best album though...still i suggest you get it but dont expect it to be better than Amputechture. although it is better than The Bedlam In Goliath
werm277 2 years ago
believe me, there is so much crap music out these days i'm not comparing their albums with each other. i prefer knowing that all their albums are fantastic, which they are, from tremulant to octahedron. hell, even the at the drive in albums were masterpieces.
stathistate 2 years ago
Yeah I bought it the day it came out. What a great album.
HaydenFromHell 2 years ago
sorry to bother you stathistate, but what book?
crohno 2 years ago
my mistake, it's not a published book. i meant the story.

Have you seen them live? I saw them in '03 and '08 and they were fucking amazing both times. I don't think he sounds out of tune here.
If you want to hear an album played live, turn up your stereo more.
otheveganity 2 years ago 2
He should just use something on his voice to make him sound in tune. I have to admit the version on the album sounds unbeleiveable. Did he use voice enhancers on Deloused? I've never heard Cedric come close to nailing that shit on any live recording.
A2KID420 2 years ago
well, that makes sense. the part about him not sounding like the album, i mean. you, know, seeing as the mars volta make it a point NOT to sound like the album. just watch an interview.
shaolinkungfu666 2 years ago 2
I don't think he tried, I am also sure he did use enhancer to some degree, but the extent you might be thinking of

what an idiot, of course they have the fans in mind, or else they wouldnt have chorus's at all, they just dont limit themselves to our expectations
christhemute 2 years ago 3
They don't need to have fan's expectations in mind because they always blow them up anyway
bendinggreenvans 2 years ago 2
the mars volta doesn't do anything for the critics or the fans. they do what they want.

What effect is Omar using right at the beginning? Some sort of delay?

gotta love old sckool mars volta...miss those days :(
weix86 3 years ago 5
i agree with you about the old school mars volta but i think that their new sound is also pretty good
razieth13 2 years ago
I bet they'll go back. Bedlam was good but I think they might have been holding back on their typical experimentation because critics and fans complaining about the spaciness. Or maybe not, but I doubt the band will never go back to the "old school days".
seethepatterns 2 years ago
But what reason would they have to revisit a sound they already played? I mean, building off of it is one thing, but they've been doing that since Francis anyway. The Mars Volta is a band that will always be moving forward at a thousand miles an hour, unrelenting and unapologetic.
TSBTF1728 2 years ago 3
why would they want to go back, and do something they've already done?
bendinggreenvans 2 years ago 2
HAHA 0:37-0:47 is just epic, Cedric and Omar are just going insane
