  • Really sweet of you for sharing this man, much appreciated. G-d bless.

  • hey i live in north dakota i turn 18 in a few months what do i have to do to get on with a rig,

  • is net pay 2400 cause i will not go there if that is gross pay i guessed it would be 3000 a month after taxes

  • @SCUBONZIES That was net...but even if that was gross it's good money.

  • @poetskinny THANK YOU VM

  • is there work for the unexpierenced? I am moving up there next sunday,so hopefully someone can give me an idea.Thank you for any and all comments. Oh i believe in hard truth, but please no rude comments.

  • jobs in nd

  • the weather this winter is mild for North Dakota. There was an Ice storm on sunday but melted by noon!

  • I'm from North Dakota, and I've worked in western North Dakota on the oil fields too.. The pay is GREAT! BUT, it is REALLY hard work.. Also, there is such an influx of people that it's hard as F*CK to find a place to live. YOU CAN NOT LIVE IN NORTH DAKOTA WITHOUT SHELTER. You WILL die. Also, it is getting really dangerous due to the multitude of rough people moving there. This is not a family place. It is hard, tough work for those who can handle it, but you will make BANK

  • THANKS MAN 4 THE VIDEO..GOD BLESS.. JUST WANT TO ASK IF I CAN APPLY EVEN IM NOT FORM THE U.S. TNX..

  • @TheBecoolspride I dont that it matters as long as you can legally work in the U.S.

  • and gonna get paid

  • How do you make sure you are with a reputable company?

  • @RockyMountainPrepper Most of the larger companies are reputable, but I guess the real answer is that you have to do your research and find about as much about a company as possible before you accept emploment.

  • well done! im a british soldier who is considering leaving and looking for job in the oilindustry.however im looking for work in europe preferably. at present i am a petroleum operator. deals with storing issuing delivering and receiving of aviation ground fuels and lubricants. do you have any info on how to find and at what level with those experience i could work as a riger. your reply is much appreciated

  • poetskinny well done that is what I call contributing to society. thank you keep up the good work.

  • I AM FROM FLORIDA TOO. PLEASE CAN I CALL YOU PLEASE

  • You are a great person for making this video..keep hope alive

  • @LauraMacalulu Thank you!

  • @poetskinny ditto

  • Cold, Snowy, lots of ice on the roads. Storms that make a hurricane look tame. Storms that make it impossible to drive since visibility is absolutely zero. Don't get caught out in a Blizzard! Summers are hot and humid and there are lots of mosquitoes around Williston. Not many places to dine, plenty of bars to drink at since it's a favorite pastime of the locals. Winter lasts November through March. Lots of outdoor activities, great hunting and fishing all over the area.

  • Lived in the bakken all of my life. Ive worked in the oilfield since i was allowed to drive. He does very well covering the basics. IF you plan on making the trip i laugh and say be prepared. Hundreds upon hundreds of oil and gas related jobs. One clarification alot of the locals simply dont need to do the patch work because they already profit off the oil being produced. For those who make it dont stir trouble unless you want the trouble. good luck to all

  • I'm joining Baker Hughes next week its funny they said u want north Dakota I said sure an then the man said it gets really cold I said give me Texas so I'm off to Odessa lol

  • Hello, I have never been to ND. Maybe this is an off the wall question but do you have any opinion on who would have the possibility of being paid more, a class A driver or a job in some capacity doing some sort of rig labor?

  • there is a price to pay for the money. its cold and windy

  • Ok guys take it from a kid that has lived here all his life, if u come here be polite ... I have had the worst time with people, learn our mannerisms and yes this is hard work but find a house first, u won't find a place to live, and if u can find a 4wheel drive vehicle... Snow sucks to drive on

  • Do you need a high school diploma?

  • @arr0wpur3z I think so, that or a G.E.D. I'm not positive though.

  • I live in the Bismarck area, but I'm worried that people are going to be flooding the city for jobs. Do you believe that there would be people camping out in Bismarck like up in Williston?

  • @TheSanguineOne I don't think so. Most people don't want to be that far away from the rigs.

  • A video showing others 'how to' survive ND. Why didn't I think of that? Good job.

If you're going to come, we appreciate you'd listen to this guy and be prepared. It's HIGHLY recommended not starting the venture in winter or even late fall unless you have a confirmed place to stay. There's NOTHING to rent and a cardboard box isn't going to cut it.

  • @Blutonomous Thanks for the endorsement. If you have any other tips man I'm sure people would love to read them.

  • Thanks for getting back to me quickly google maps did help. See you up there guys

  • Thanks for the videos they've helped...alright I want to go to work oil but what are some of the largest companies that are hiring? I've looked allover the web and can't seem to find a site I'd trust.

  • @StealthFire61 I would do a Google Map search of 'drilling companies' in Williston ND and see what companies come up.

  • I have been in lawn care and landscaping my whole life. I'm trying to get a job out there. I live here in michigan. My buddy just got verbally accepted for a trucking position. Would it be best to just show up and walk in/fill out applications? It seems like they are getting a lot of online. How long could I expect to wait for a job just filling out online applications? Clean record all the way. Thanks!! Nice vid

  • @CMink7777 Yeah they are getting a lot of online applications. You do take a risk though just showing up because the time before you get employed varies and that is if you even do get employed. If you are willing to take the gamble and go up there and grind it out until you find a job I say that is probably your best bet. Glad my video could be of some use to you.

  • Great video man. About 6 of us friends from here in Oregon were planning on going there after this summer. But phew imma wuss hah when it comes to cold that is not my game dunno if i could do it.

  • It's so good to see such a positive message on youtube. My job here in TN has left me for China so I purchased a cold weather RV and I'm heading up there with my skills! Good Luck to everyone, the american dream IS STILL ALIVE!

  • @zx1400a7f Hope everything works out for you up there. And I agree, the American dream still lives even if people try to make you believe it doesn't.

  • @ImagineSanDiego you wouldn't be happy when you're living in your car, in -20 degree windy weather with nothing to do in the city. Rather keep my 1K a week job than deal with that BS.

  • They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but in this case I am doing just that. This guy just comes off as awesome sauce! Thanks for the info man.

  • @YeshuaProtects NICE!!!!! Thanks for the compliment:)

  • Looking to drive to north dakota from Duluth,MN looking for entry-level oil field jobs. Just going to grind it out. Any advise will help thanks..charlottertohomes@gmail.com

  • Thanks for the video bro.

  • @H1TMANactual No problem man. Hope you found it useful.

  • 20 dlls hr

  • @drvrprmt: looks like I wont be the only one....I have done cold, its the hot sun of Saudi that will kill ya.......see you jokers soon...bah hahahahahahahaha!!! ok not so loud I will need someone to vouch for me when I get there :))

  • @reotardodickcraprio: Did I get your name correct......how do you spell Peanut butter? is 25x4 still 100 ? do 7 swans swim during Honika .....chill ...I was a Sgt. in the Army.....but thankyou for sharing

  • The problem in Williston right now is the fact that there is a lot of work, but companies aren't hiring people with no rig experience, or people that don't have a Class A CDL -HazMat Endorse.

  • coming up in a week or 2. one of the coldest days. Gonna stick my hand up and say I will try

  • @mike184ever1 If you dont have a place to stay here, dont bother. I support you coming up here and working, but you will die in your car/camper if thats your plan. Dont be stupid and wait till spring and tough it out.

  • @mike184ever1 dont come. its like russia

  • This man tells the truth. It is best you go there to get the job, and be dressed, and ready to go to work, THAT is what they look for. You show up in coat & tie, they will laugh you out of the state! For those of you that have guts enough to go there and get a job, the website he mentioned is ok, but I have found that a night or two in a saloon where the workers hang out, will land you "names & phone #'s" that will get you a job. Use your head.

  • Thanks brother, you are a good person who cares about others who are looking for jobs.

God bless you, i am already in North Dakota..:)

  • @asalad083 Thanks man, that means a lot to me for someone to say that. Much success to you up there in ND!!!

  • I am on my way there. I am a stylist/barber from Chicago. I know some of the guys need a good fade. Thanks for the Video! I am a female barber by the way.

  • @Kelauni2010 Hope it all works out for you. You should be able to cash in cutting hair up there.

  • I have applied to a ton of jobs out there do you have any advise our a number to call to land a job? Would it be better to just drive out there and try to find a job. If you have any advise please shoot me an email at jsgriffith0659@gmail.com. thanks so much

  • @jsgriffith0659 If you don't have rig experience, you won't get a reply. People are looking for 1+ years experienced people, or CDL. Consider getting a Class A CDL before you consider coming here.

  • Do you know what companies have a rotating schedule and which ones don't?

  • @dudesonwill I think that pretty much all the companies have rotating schedules in the oil patch. There may be some exceptions out there but I don't know about them.

  • How many other black people did you see up there?

  • @Weezy10580 I'm glad to see a brotha made a video on it. I'm Black myself, but race is no a concern. I need money. But like him I know nothing about the cold. I'm from So.Cal. I live in Sacramento right now and I'm struggling to handle the cold up here. But I need the money plus it's right next to Canada and I've always wanted to visit Canada.

  • @u2hubbard Its cold as hell. Doesnt bother me to much but the wind is the issue. Good luck.

  • @Weezy10580 There was actually another black guy on my crew on the rigs. Apart from that I might have seen maybe 10 other black people the whole time I was there. Race was never a problem for me up there though. All the locals were friendly and though I could tell a lot of them weren't used to seeing a lot of black people no one said or did anything to make me uncomfortable.

  • @poetskinny Good deal, thanks.

  • Thanks for the info! Did you arrange to get a job online before you got there or did you just show up?

  • @brainmcmullin I filled out an online application and I called the HR dept literally dozens of times and I got an interview set up before I went.

  • @metalman8600 That being said, no one will take you seriously until you're here. Most of these places are getting thousands of applicants a week from people all over the world. Once here, make sure they know you submitted your application online and you'd like an interview.

  • @metalman8600 Well... what do you want to do? You can submit applications online for a lot of the companies for entry level positions on frac crews, wireline crews, etc. Some of the companies you can apply online with are Halliburton, Schlumberger (with your degree they may be willing to send you to "shooter" school if you get on a wireline crew, this would make you basically the same thing as a field engineer), Baker Hughes, NOV, and also go to the ND jobs site he mentions in his video.

  • Lucky guy! Two weeks on two weeks off??!! My husband is on a 9 week on 1 week off schedule over at Baker. But good video! Too bad you couldn't stick it out. I found that once it got around -20 it was just flat out cold, I couldn't really tell the difference between -20 and -40. We've been up here for a year and a half, though, and came up from Wyoming (my husband has been in oil for 4 years) so we were more used to it.

  • @23lisan Thanks. 9 weeks on 1 week off. Wow! thats a killer schedule. I give your husband his props for working that one. I bet he is raking in the cash though lol. Thanks for the additional comments about places to apply as well.

  • hey timmy, im about to head up there in a few days, I was wondering since you work for precision drilling if I can list you as a reference? I know that housing is tough up there right now but im willing to tough it out and sleep in my car until i can find some housing or be able to live on a man camp. Did u drive up there?

  • @maxx2themax I don't work for precision drilling anymore. Sorry. I personally took the greyhound up to Fargo, ND then bought a car there, the car I had before wouldn't have made the trip from Florida.

  • My dad owns 4 oil wells around the Williston area. As you said you make bank.

  • Hey Timmy, I just signed up to follow you on Twitter, but I'm a newbie there and not too sure how to ask what I need to in 140 characters. Anyway, I have passed all this info (about jobs in ND) on to my brother who is a professional trucker, but I'm wondering if you have any insight on jobs in the oil industry for women. Did you see any working there? Yes, I know it's physically demanding, but I'm curious what the options might be for women in this field. Thanks!

  • @kpperkins I didnt see any women on the rigs but i did run into women working in some oil related fields. They were making the same money as the men and working the same 2 week on 2 week off schedules. With workers being scarce I don't think gender plays a major factor as long as you ca do the work.

  • @poetskinny so do you think as you being an employer for precision drilling if you can be a reference for me as I am heading up there in a few days. its tough to find a place right now but im gonna tough it out and sleep in my car till i get some good housing.

  • @kpperkins I'm a woman working in ND, that being said my husband works on wells. I work an office job, I took one of the lower paying ones because it offered flexibility, but office jobs up here can pay upwards of $22/hr. I have seen a handful of women work for actual oil companies doing actual oil work, but I won't lie... it's a pretty discriminatory field when it comes to gender. Not everyone will discriminate against you, but you'll find a lot of men will give you a hard time.

  • Thanks for the video Timmy, I've been looking at all the sites there for 4 weeks, called 40 places, applied for many joobs, problem is they want only people with at least two years experience in the oilfields. Same for trucking jobs. Plus there is NO housing, NO storage and now companies will not hire you unless you have a place to live. $600 per night for a hotel room!...yes i said up to $600 per night! The whole town tries to rip you off. Things have changed...too bad.

  • @biggerthanyourface1 Sorry I didn't get back to you on your email yet. When I was there they were saying that they wanted experience as well. The only thing I can say about that is be persistent. Keep Calling! I had a reference from an employee which helped me alot but I still had to call the HR person about 20 times until I got an interview.

The address thing is true. What I did was use the address of the homeless shelter. They had no way of knowing what it was they just saw a ND address.

  • @biggerthanyourface1 That is so not true. I live in Williston, people are still getting work up here with no experience, there are over 300 companies in this area looking for workers in oil alone. So calling 40 places isn't even touching the tip of the iceburg. I have a video on my account of people living in the WalMart parking lot. Yes, they want you to have a place to live but they're not pick as to what it is.

  • Really appreciate the honest info! I'm from a small town in southern Ohio and work here is scarce. I'm not yet "desparate" for work, but I know if I can't figure something out soon... I will be. I'm glad I found your video; you've given me a good bit of solid info to consider. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Regards & Respects.

  • Hey Timmy, Please check your messages. Thanks for posting this video.

  • I live in central ND and hear stories about the oil fields daily. I admire the way you presented so much good, solid information about your own experience here. I'm worried about naive people who come here, not knowing how hard it is to find a place to stay. You just can't live in your car when it's 10-40 below zero outside. And, sorry to say, a lot of greedy people are charging $100+/nightly for a room. ND really needs lots of hard workers, who know what they're getting into before they come.

  • @JustZFacts You are correct. ND is definitely hard country and if you go there you need to be prepared for what you will face. I stayed in my car and lived in a homeless shelter for awhile. I was also fortunate enough to find a hotel room for a few days. I have heard about people having to pay extremely high prices for rent too.

Living arrangements if definitely something you want to have in place before you go to ND or soon afterwards especially if you are going in the winter time.

  • What kind of work did you do in ND? can I look it up online?

    Thanks,

    Carson

  • @GLBLWRMER I worked on an oil rig. I worked for a company called Precision Drilling. Their hiring website is Toughnecks dotcom

  • Thanks for posting this video! Really is informational!

  • Hello TimmyO., thank you for doing this vid! I needed to hear this info. you discussed in the video! I am desperate, and need to go to Williston, ND. Prior to seeing your vid here, I was seeing on CNN about Williston and the Oil employment opportunities, and then came across your vid! This is really encouraging! I have lived in MN all my life, where we have actual real winters, snow and wind chills. Williston is where I need to go!

  • @cooksecurities No problem, glad you could benefit from my video.

  • Hey timmy, I am very interested in doing this. because right now i am going through a very tough time. and need a break in life to get back on my feet. the cold doesnt bother me. do you have facebook at all?

  • @Howie1productions I had a facebook but I deleted it lol. I kept running into people I knew from years ago that I wanted to forget about. If you have any questions you can message me on here for now. I am still working on setting up a blog or webpage.

  • Where did you live? A lot of people come here, and leave when they have to live out of their car.

  • @rseveran I lived out of my car and at Ruth Meiers Homeless shelter until I got on the rig then I lived at one of the companies work camps

  • Thanks for the info. I live in Idaho so cold will not be a problem. The only problem is no job.

  • @TheDEMSUCK Sounds like just the place for you then. There is definitely work there.

  • Good info. Thinking of going out there this summer.

  • @earthpigg Summer or spring is the best time to go. That way you can work and stack up some money during the good weather and then you can leave if you want during the bad weather.
