I don't know why it took me so long to finally listen to this whole album... but as a long time fan of AIC and Jerry Cantrell, I must say that, despite Layne not singing, this album has some "unique chemistry" to it, especially this song, Duvall did a nice job, but as always, Alice In Chains' brain WAS, IS AND WILL BE Jerry Cantrell.
Melancholic yet almost nostalgic at the same time. The harmonies are crafted to perfection and the music just seems to perpetuate a mystery so dark and deep, that I literally get goosebumps sometimes trying to wrap my mind around it... Easily one of the best songs off the album.
Layne will always be the man. He [is] AIC..
But I have to give credit where credit is due and imo this latest effort by Jerry and the gang is simply "the shit!" =)

William Duvall doesn't have the uniqueness that Layne possessed, but he has the passion. It's what seperates the greats from the average. This is everything (except of course Layne) that anyone could want from AIC... a thick, grungy dirge and those trademark harmonies. Hard to believe people are so critical of this.
I have seen AIC live a couple times now with Duvall as their front man.. and I have loved it each time. They're one of those great bands that sound just as good live as they do on their album!
This is one of the best songs for me ever. I thought that nowadays songs never gonna be as awesome as songs at 80's and 90's. Thanks God I was wrong and thanks Jerry and other members of this fucking incredible band. 2:22 - 2:42 hypnotize me.
In my opinion, Will is no Layne. Layne was genius but still Will is a great musician. You can't, you shouldn't compare them. Personally I prefer Layne and old AiC, but I'm glad that their still trying and succeeding in making good music. Long live AiC!

I have seen AIC live a couple times now with Duvall as their front man.. and I have loved it each time. They're one of those great bands that sound just as good live as they do on their album!

This is one of the best songs for me ever. I thought that nowadays songs never gonna be as awesome as songs at 80's and 90's. Thanks God I was wrong and thanks Jerry and other members of this fucking incredible band. 2:22 - 2:42 hypnotize me.

In my opinion, Will is no Layne. Layne was genius but still Will is a great musician. You can't, you shouldn't compare them. Personally I prefer Layne and old AiC, but I'm glad that their still trying and succeeding in making good music. Long live AiC!

Alice In Chains are still Alice In Chains...AC/DC didn't change their name when Bon Scott died....so why should AIC? It helps though if you pretend they're some whole new band...you can't deny how amazing this album is...

@MotleyCrueGroupie You can't compare the AIC situation to the ACDC one. Layne was a huge part of the band. wrote 50 percent of the lyrics, AIC was his band name. and he was an A+ vocalist.
Layne played a much bigger role than Bon Scott. They should have changed the name of the band.

I honestly don't understand these people. If a band changes it's style they complain because they want the same style. all guys who ditch William DuVall should just shut it and be happy. Of Course he's not Layne, no one is Layne! Everyone was sad when he died but you know, you gotta move on. You people who criticize DuVall should be happy that AIC found him. He is great. He manages to sound like Layne and still have his own style. Of course he doesn't have Layne's power and energy, but it's pretty fuckin close. There is no better replacement. If you guys don't like him, then go listen to somethin else.

I only wish Cantrell would put his ego aside and let the lead singer actually sing. As it stands, this sounds exactly like another Jerry Cantrell solo album. His voice is just terribly when it isn't in harmony with somebody else's. But the guy has a massive ego. Can't sell tickets with "Jerry Cantrell," so he figures he'll call it "Alice in Chains" and let the new "lead singer" sing backup a few times during the album.

@amorphis You're an idiot. Jerry's ego? Both Jerry and Will sang 50/50 on this record. Jerry sang lead on Taker her Out, Lesson Learned, BGWTB, and Your Decision. Will sang lead on Last of my Kind, Private Hell, Acid Bubble, and a Looking in view, the rest was clearly the combination of the 2. I mean damn check my brain had both of them singing the same ammount. Dumbass

Yeah, Layne obviously was one of a kind. IMO he made AiC one of the best bands of all time. They still kick more ass than just about any other band or "musician" around now.
