How did you recycle the sweater into twine? Was it simply unraveling the sweater or something similar? I'd very much like to Know how to do that! I can even send you a sweater or two that you can demonstrate on if that would help.
@Reximusprimebeta LOL! Love the username. I has a friend who calls me Reximundous. Teeheehee! Anyhow, I found where the sweater was started, cut the yarn, then just unraveled it like you would any knitted project you would frog. It didn't turn into twine, it's still the same yarn that was knitted into the sweater but I just dyed it to make it different. I knit it into a red scarf & donated it to the Red Scarf project. The yarn was too scratchy for my use.The ultimate reuse-reduce-recycle project!
@rexenne Thanks! We Rex's have to stick together! People used to call me Rextifer, lol. I cant stand scratchy yarn myself either. I'll keep my eyes open at the thrift stores from now on. Thanks so much!
@keikothemeowmeow I don't really measure it that way. Makes the outcome pretty much unpredictable & fun!! Read & Follow the directions on your dye container.
Wonderful! That's what you are! I just love your videos, I've learned so much. I too have limited space and a lackadaisical attitude, except for the dripping dye to the dye pot, my wife would kill me. I just wanted to let you know how enjoyable, entertaining, and foremost instructional I've found all your videos on drum rolling, and dyeing. I'll get out here one day and list some books which have plans for building various wool manipulating machinery, including swifts. Run out of room TTFN
Yes! It is on my blog, but I cannot ad a link in the comments box because youtube nixes it as spam. Yarrrrrgha! I'll add a notation on the video with a link.
Thanks so much for all the postive feedback! If anyone is unaware, I am doing a fundraiser to raise the funds to replace a RAM chip in my puter that is crappin out, making it impossible to edit video to upload to youtube. I have two more waiting to be edited! You can find my fundraiser page at rexenne. chipin. com/ new-1gig-ram-chip (take out spaces). I appriciate every little bit that helps! Thanks for your consideration and support!!
I wanna make a swift toooooo!!! Can you message me? Also, quick question; do I need to wear a dust mask when dyeing? I have had people tell me that I HAVE to, and then others that say to just wear it when handling the dye before it's mixed. And ONE more question; I had this one chick tell me that I should NEVER dye in my kitchen...but it is the only place I have to dye, is it BAD to dye in the kitchen? Am I doing something wrong? I LOVE YOU AND I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! Love, Sophie
Some people are very set in their ways and once they are told to do something one way, they cannot do it another way. I dye in the kitchen, living room, outdoors...I have not had any ill effects. I'm goofy by nature! LMAO!! I never wear a dust mask, but I am careful not to breath over the dye powder. I kinda hold it out and away so I do not breath it in. The Magic Eraser does wonders on accidental stains. :)
do you have a video on the different parts of spinning wheels and any tips on spinning you can give. I just bought an Alpaca and just starting out.You vieos helped me alot.Thank you.
I am working on a few, however one of the puters RAM chips are dieing making it impossible to edit video. Hopefully I will be able to replace it soon! I'd like to get a 1 GIGer but they cost so dang much! *faint*
i love that you recycle yarn and show off your handmaid tools. knitting has way to much consumerism. I was at the yarn store today and a swift is $99 here in canada! So, HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR OWN!

Yay recycled yarn p*rn! I've been reclaiming yarn from thrift store sweaters for the past year or so, but I've not yet dyed any.
And yay for the braiding demo! I knew it had to be simple, but I hadn't figured it out yet.
