Good for her. Self publishing is just another avenue. Now she is going to a traditional publisher. I don't think there is any one right way to do it. She kept writing and that's what really matters. Being prolific really helps your sales and your writing skills improve with each new book.
My research about writing and self publishing has taught me this. All the pros, the experts, the phenoms and those involved with self publishing say the same thing. The biggest and best thing you can do to promote your work, is keep writing. Your best promotional tool is going to be your next book.
Not to mention, that is what writers do, they write, not promote.
If you look at some of the most successful authors, they are cranking out books left and right. That is how you become a writer.
@BadPennySB I have to agree!! I've only written two books, and it feels like I try to do more work promoting them sometimes than actually cranking out more material, and I have so many ideas I can't keep up. It can be a good thing if you keep writing, but if you get bogged down reading all these "how-to" articles and constantly trying to sell, you're not spending time creating new material.
It's like J.A. Konrath says. The more books you write, the more people are likely to find you.
@PeteyPoison Yeah, seems a shame to wasted your talented years marketing, when you could be doing good work. I believe you have to do some marketing but that will only get you a small amount of attention.
However, your work will always be a ad, sitting on a shelf, digital or physical.
Orson Wells regretted spending his best years looking for funding for his movie projects and wished he had done what he loved. acting and directing, even if it was on a stage. Something to think about.
She is not just lucky. Luck plays a part, of course but she has written for over 10 years and amassed a huge collection of material. That is one of the things that helped keep people talking about Amanda when others who self publish get forgotten.
Most upload a book and have nothing to follow it up. Then they have to write another book, which takes time. Amanda was, bang, bang, bang with her releases. She must be doing something correct with her writing or she would have been forgotten.
She is a true inspiration for all hopeful authors, myself included. I've downloaded one of her books and look forward to reading it. Maybe there's hope for my Gorry Brothers after all. Thank you so much Amanda for giving me back hope and I wish you all the best for the future. X

Her book are not very good. She just got lucky on the whole teen/YA Twilight train. It's all about luck.

She got hundreds of rejection letters !
This just goes to show that publishers are
frequently so wrong about who they should sign.
