There is no moral or philosophical basis for any "just war" doctrine. The just war doctrine came from the Geneva convention if I'm not mistaken, meaning that politicians MADE IT UP. There is no reason to bind our safety to such a doctrine. That said, I'm radically opposed to the war in Afghanistan for other reasons.
It's a way of weaseling out of an argument by addressing the positives without discussing the negatives and then pretending like you aren't discussing it so there is no discussion about it. Of course, in reality, as with anything, there are positives and negatives. No one denies that we got rid of Saddam, but did that justify our actions then and now? What were all of the positives, but also what were all of the negatives. I think in an honest appraisal, scales would tip towards the latter.
Saddam is gone but our actions were not justified. Furthermore, the Iraqi gov't propped up by our gov't is just as corrupt as our gov't and stands to do just as much bad in the long run as Saddam would've. This will happen by the people becoming even more impoverished by the robbing of the poor and giving to the rich like our gov't does, i.e. recent "bail outs."

There is no moral or philosophical basis for any "just war" doctrine. The just war doctrine came from the Geneva convention if I'm not mistaken, meaning that politicians MADE IT UP. There is no reason to bind our safety to such a doctrine. That said, I'm radically opposed to the war in Afghanistan for other reasons.

It's a way of weaseling out of an argument by addressing the positives without discussing the negatives and then pretending like you aren't discussing it so there is no discussion about it. Of course, in reality, as with anything, there are positives and negatives. No one denies that we got rid of Saddam, but did that justify our actions then and now? What were all of the positives, but also what were all of the negatives. I think in an honest appraisal, scales would tip towards the latter.

It's all bullshit. We just kill brown people for oil and drugs. The Federal Reserve is the only one that benefits. Putting yourself in harms way without thinking is stupid. Waving the Flag for drugs and oil is sick.
