I was very surprised by the number 1! Especially that I was thinking: "Dammit they will not have THIs game in the list and yet it is such a good game"... However, I thought this game (yeah I avoid to spoil the top 20...) would not be number 1 but a little below... Oh well, very great video with a lot of very good game. I would have love that list included Woodruff And The Schnibble of Azimuth too.
As for Delphine fans, also check out Future Wars (adventure / action), which is amazing too. Especially for its time (although some of the action seq. could become annoying). One thing for sure: Delphine left us a timeless impression :-)
@blade004 totally agree! perhaps a bit "old-times-talk", but: they don't make games like that anymore. It's mostly because those gems from back then could also leave you with a sense of imagination. It's like reading the book version, whereas nowadays we only get the movie versions :-) :-)
Its rather odd that for Operation Stealth and Cruise for a Corpse that you didnt present the Amiga versions to show them at their best due to better sonics? Still a wonderful video regardless :)
i would also like to recommend Dragonsphere (from Microprose), which has an amazing story. I think the game is underrated by many, although most magazines back in the 90's had very positive (and well deserved) reviews. One thing to mention though: the adventure starts out as a very casual adventure, may almost seem dull... but once you delve inside, you're gonna experience one of the best adventures not made by LucasArts.
@DarkTenka Yes, the Amiga CD and PC CD versions were both full-talkies, I think the recent iOS version has full speech too, though I've not played that version.
There is a site called GoG (Good old Games). That rereleases old classics, that have been tinkered with to work on modern computers, its all completely legal, they get full permission. The site also has a few free games available when you sign up, the full talkie version of Beneath a Steel Sky is one of the freebies.
@gamesessions i played both already, but the sequel is the best game ever, you can't even compare to the other game!! i sugest you find it to download, it's a little hard to find but it's worth!!
I once player a game where you (somewhere in a level) were in a hotel and you couldn't leave it until you throw some item out of the window. If you went out of the hotel with that item in your pocket you were taken by the guards of that hotel and thrown in the waters. Which game is this? I searched everywhere for it but I CANT find it. Anybody?
@VikingFatty It's Broken Sword - I remember this part of the game really frustrating me as I was used to the LucasArts games where you basically couldn't die. Then I got to this point, got thrown into a river and realised that I hadn't saved it once! lol - Back to the start for me then, I learned my lesson the hard way :P
@gamesessions Can you help me aswell? I remember, about 5-10 years ago I played a great adventure game off a CD my friend borrowed to me. I don't remember the full story. It had a part where there was this cave, where a troll or a giant lived and everytime he left the cave he put a giant boulder in the way of the entry. It also had a part where you were being mugged and you had to give the robber a ring which killed and turned the wearer into a skeleton. It was set in like the middle age or smth
All the games are older than 10 years. No Syberia series, Dreamfall: The Lonest Journey, or Heavy Rain. Oh, it's sort of a response to Retro Gamer, then it actually makes sense.
This video convinced me to purchase Sanitarium on gog along with re-installing all of my Sierra adventure classics! I'm going to be pretty busy for the foreseeable future. :)
@gamesessions For sure! Great list! By the way, I was wondering if Simon the Sorcerer was going to make this list, then noticed it was ranked #1! God I loved that game. Haven't played part 2 yet. Were parts 3-5 really that bad?
Great list! I'm so glad Policenauts made the cut. It would have been an easy one to miss. Your commentary also described the game perfectly. You truly play the story in Policenauts, and nothing more. There are no puzzles for the sake of puzzles.
Good list actually, I'd guess whoever compiled it was around 25-32 years old, because I remember playing (or owning) 15 of them.
Just 3 games which I feel should have AT LEAST got an honourable mensh
1 - 7th guest - PC
2 - Shadowrun - SNES
3 - Toonstruck - PC
Fully enough though 'Broken Sword' would've been my personal no. 1 which coincidentally semi-buried Toonstruck which was released at about the same time in 1996.
Finally, blade runner was good, but had pretty big gaming issues
@Toops144 lol it stroke me too at certain points in the game! Being it so unpredictable and mixing the macabre with the childish..that's the perfect match to freak people out! High artistic value as far as I'm concerned :D
I really enjoyed this. Great ideas for games to seek out. I feel Riven and Myst should have made the list however (or are these considered another genre?)
Really enjoying this. I've only seen up to #14 so far. Last Express, I Have No Mouth, and Discworld Noir are brilliant I think, especially Last Express. Didn't like Flight of Amazon Queen though.
I really enjoyed this video, I was really hoping you weren't going to skip over Bladerunner, one of my favourite games of all time.
I was also hoping you would include Douglas Adams's Starship Titanic, maybe I'm just looking at it through Nostalgia goggles but I really enjoyed the art style of the game.
really good work here, it must of taken allot of time for you to produce such a lenghtly video, and i think Retro gamer Magzine should do something like this as a treat to the loyal supports of the magazine, but we've more chance of seeing the two moons of Endor before they'd get off there back sides.
Real number one - Quest for Glory!

I completely agree with 2 and 1...

of course the list cannot contain more than 20 games, but one can add a game by "Divide by Zero" like this The Gene Machine

I'm assuming that's the PC version of Cruise for a Corpse. The music is way inferior to the Amiga version, yet the graphics are so much better.
As with a lot of classic adventures, it would be great to have the Amiga music with the PC graphics.

It had some grotesque and uber-artistic imagination, I really loved it. Add the dark humor and it's perfect
