  • If some people don't like this song, then why are they listening to it? Go figure.

  • Rosanne, thank you for shaking my hand tonite at the end of your concert. I loved your Dad, The Carter Family and June. Am wondering now if you were there at the concert several (many?) years ago in Denver when your Dad sand with June and The Carter Family.....I think Carlene was there, and I was fortunate to see her several years ago as a warm-up act at Fiddlers Green (now Comfort Dental Amphitheater) . I love you! Can't wait to read your book! My dtr loved you, too! God Bless!

  • i just read "Composed" - Rosanne you're so gifted!! Love you-

  • I LOVE THIS!!!!

  • her voice mesmerized me the first time i heard it...incredible

  • LOL, everyone has a right to there opinion and it doesnt make the "retarded" or stupid. Personally i looove this song however, some people may not. Get over it.

  • ADD 3 MORE RETARDS

  • @chrisjewett63 "Stupidity is far more dangerous than evil, for evil takes a break from time to time, stupidity does not." - Jefferson

  • @autoteck1 anatole france is who comes up when i googled it. great quote though.

  • @larrygentry I quoted as i read it,, "Stupidity is far more dangerous than evil, for evil takes a break from time to time, stupidity does not." - Jefferson

"Any fool can know. The point is to understand" - Albert Einstein

I will stop attributing it to him, even though it is a very Jeffersonian quote

  • @larrygentry DONT TRUST GOOGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I read somewhere that when Rosanne Cash recorded this she didnt know that her father had recorded this.

  • @Lauragal220 She knew he recorded it,but didn't realize he wasn't the one that wrote it.

  • @andithebombmom thank you for the clarification

  • Great song

  • Someone once told me that this song is referring to Elvis Presley in his early beginning, written with Presley in mind.

  • @terrafirma91 Thank you for sharing that with us; it adds an extra *special* touch to this great song. I really admire the clarity in her voice, and the instruments are well balanced giving it a unique locomotive-like rhythm. Well done!

  • I'm still looking for the studio version of "My baby thinks he's a train". It must not of been uploaded.

  • Tennessee Flat Top Box" is a song written and recorded by American country music singer Johnny Cash. It was released as a single in late 1961, reaching #11 on the Billboard country singles charts and #84 on the pop charts.[1]

The song is a story of a little boy aspiring to be a country singer, which starts his career in a local cabaret at a little Texan border town. He is not the stock of scholar or physical work aptitude, but he is a good guitar player.

  • Great song.

  • It sure is nice hearing the original version of this song. I remember hearing this played by her at Schwenkstock (Philadelphia Folk Fest) in 1997. Thanks for posting.

  • Good song..her daddy sang it pretty well also! :)

  • sorry; uh no im not hers is good but johnny is the man

  • i LOVE this!!

  • i love this song so much but Roseann Cash does all her songs so well

  • will always be my favorite song from her!!!!:-) you 2 people who don't like it are crazy!!

  • I found an old 45 in a basement of my friends house, it was her seven year heartache, this one is great too.

  • Always 1 of my Favorites...=-) thx 4 posting!!!

  • This song was written by her father Johnny Cash, she didn't know it until AFTER she had recorded it. ironic huh?

  • i love this song so................much

  • I adore this song and I rememberwhen her version came out!

  • I had my cousins play this for me on their various string instruments when I was a little girl. Still love the song!!

  • My mom use to sing this song to me when I was younger. I decided to try and find it :) took me a bit, but it was worth finding.

  • KIng's Record Shop was her best album thanx for posting

  • On March 18, 2011 she is playing at the by now sold out performance at Wendover, Nevada. I hope she plays this song. Both recordings are great.

  • It is supposed to have been that Rosanne did not realize this was her Dad's song when she recorded it, and believed it to be in the public domain. Johnny took a full-page ad in the Nashville paper, advising her of copyright infringement. It was rather tongue-in-cheek. Is it me, or wouldn't that be a great way of promoting his daughter's recording a little bit? ;) He was a brilliant man, and Rosanne is brilliant in her own right.

  • yeah when Johnny died, part of my heart felt so deeply sad.. loved him

  • I hope that I can here Rosanne play this in concert one day soon. And how I wish I could of heard the original in 1961 by Johhny. It was not until recently that I learned that Mr. Cash was the original of this song. Both he and his daughter; Rosanne play this with feeling that continues long after the track ends. Thank you Rosanne for sharing with us this heart felt song.

  • otra cancion que me gusta mucho

  • omg she was hot waaaaaaaaaaaay before her dad died omg. Rodney Crowell was one of his best friends

  • slipnot could get a grammy for suckin!! sure not for singing

  • lmao too funny..she was playing before her dad..dumbass..haha

  • Stephencid.. She did make her dad proud she was singing way before he died.. dumb ass

  • Great Job. Would have made her dad proud.

  • @stephencid it did make her dad proud, he was alive when she recorded this

  • I loved this song when it came out!! I was only 12 or so I think, but it was the first non pop song that was NEW at the time that I thought was SOOO cool. I love the guitar part too. I didn't realize then that it was her daddy's song first. Her voice is so pretty and so is she. :)

  • I WONDER IF THAT ONE WHO DIDN´T

    LIKE THIS SONG IS RETARDED.

  • @IGOROZKARSKY Probably..........or just dumb as dirt. Even the retarted have class most of the time.

  • @IGOROZKARSKY Well now there are three of them

  • @IGOROZKARSKY Today would have been my brother Ricky's 43rd birthday. This was his favorite song so I posted it on Facebook. He was mentally retarded (the word was used in the 70s and 80s and has been replaced with disabled or handicapped). Use of the word "retarded" in the context you used is hurtful and shows your ignorance. The irony in your statement and my brother's liking of the song is, however, delicious.

  • @IGOROZKARSKY yes very retarded like duuuuuuuuuu lol

  • It is hard to believe but Rosanne did not know her father wrote this song. When it became a hit for her she thought it was in the public domain and did not know her dad had the rights. Johnny said he was so happy for her success all that rights stuff did not matter one whit.

  • Ive loved this since i was younger and tomorrow im 33

  • thiz song is gay slipknot is better

  • @MrMrklown Then why are you listening to it?

  • @Mrsamberrobbins cuz my bitch ass g-ma

  • @MrMrklown well, your g-ma is pretty badass! :)

  • SHE'S MY SWEETHEART. LOVE THIS YOUNG LADY TO THE END OF TIME.

  • This one was one of my favorites. My eldest daughter sings this wonderfully!!

  • can we see your tits?

  • and then one day on the Hit Parade....Love it!!!!

  • great song!

  • Awesome

  • thanks for the info!

  • beutiful song from a beautiful woman

  • I remember this song when i was a teenager played it all the time on jukeboxes.

  • great voice

  • Who's daughter is she...June Carter??

  • @dbarnett714 Yep!

  • @dbarnett714 No - her mother was Johnny Cash's first wife, Vivian...

  • @Jfaj9999 exactly - 1st of his 4 daughters

  • @dbarnett714 Her mother is Johnny's first wife

  • @dbarnett714 June Carter's Daughter is Carlene Carter by Carl Smith

  • Great song of her daddy's tune

  • great gee-tar pickn !!!

  • excellent!!

  • I heard somewhere that when Rosanne found out that this was one of her daddy's songs, it helped to heal a rift in their relationship.

  • @2wingo thats just ignorant, to believe she didnot know this was one of her old mans songs

  • @butler22070 I've done the research. She really didn't know.

  • Yee Haww

  • This was the song that pulled me into country music, I could say I fell in love with Rosanne's voice

  • KILLER TUNE BLASTED ON A 3,000 WATT HOME SYSTEM WITH 6 18INCH MONSTERS

  • Rodney Crowell really captured his father-in-law's signature sound on this 1. Rosanne hit #1 in Billboard, 2-13-88. No offense, gang, but, God bless!

  • She is awesome as was her father.

  • I grew up with her and shes AMAZING

  • sing it early, and sing it often, Rosanne!

  • boo were is the video at?

  • Randy Scruggs on that guitar! My hero.

  • Awesome song my girlfriend used to play. She got killed by drunk driver in head on collison...

  • Is it true that JC's version is about Elvis, but Rosanne's version is about Johnny?

  • i remember when I was little and my mom would sing this song to me and I loved it it is one of my best times when i was younger

  • woo hooo......

  • She does it justice.

  • is that the same "slap echo" used on all the johnny cash singles?

  • AWESOME

  • !!! this song gets my dad talkn about the good ol' days when he was a teen, he loves the rythm of the geetar' !!!

  • I love her version of this song :)

  • Amazing song!

I found out the other day that this song was written about him(Johnny Cash)

I like both versions but i think hers is better..I am also a HUGE fan of Johnny Cash.

  • @JensenAcklesFan891 i thinks hers is better to

  • Great song.

    Thanks for posting it.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • @flamerunner11 Actually on Johnny's album "The Great Lost Performance" he talks about Rosanne doing this song, and he says that she in fact DID NOT know that "Tennessee Flat Top Box" was his song. She thought it was Public Domain. Of course Johnny then told her it was his song.

  • @mmc2k4 Isn't that kind of far-fetched? I mean, how could she possibly not know she was singing one of her father's songs?

  • @2wingo its true she didn't it kinda actually makes sense I mean the man recoded at least some thousand songs

  • @classicstarr Good point.

  • I like Rosanne's version better. Thanks for posting this.

  • Beautiful song - beautiful voice - Great talent runs in the family

  • That's true patch she had no clue when she recorded this that it was one of her daddies songs. And she kicks it.

  • @DevlynNightshade Dude how freaking stupid do you take us? Or her for that matter. to suggest that she doesn't know her own dads music esp. a hit like this. Man I hate these shits that think they know all about the GREATS.

  • @flamerunner11 Not trying to be argumentative, but it actually is true. I don't claim to know much about music history, but I researched this because I found it so interesting, and all the research I found claims that she really didn't know. If you think about it, it wasn't one of his BIG hits, and he did record an awful lot of music. You can't expect anyone, not even his daughter, to be able to rattle off a list of every song Johnny ever recorded.

  • That is true patch she had no clue this was one of her daddies songs! And she does sing it better than he did.

  • Love it!!

  • been awhile thank ya

  • lil boy who played the the tennese flat top box.= Her dad

  • awesome!!!love...........................it!

  • Johnny, I'm sorry. She can sing this better than you could. RIP Man in Black

  • good song

  • this sounds like a old french song called tu peux ben dormir tranquille.

  • When Rosanne recorded these she didn't realize her father wrote it

  • The Cash family have exceptiomal voices and are true legends with voices that make music worth listening tooo ... Canadian First \Nations Person

  • The Cash family have exceptiomal voices and are true legends with voices that make music worth listening tooo ... Canadian First \Nations Person

  • Good song

  • great song from the first time i heard it

  • My Dad would take us for loooooong car rides. We would listen to Johnny Cash, Roger Miller, Hank Williams, Nat King Cole and many others on his 8 track tape player. We had so much fun on those long rides. Our Grandmother is gravely ill & in the hospital so he would take our Mom there so she could sit with her Mother. Us girls were oblivious to how sick our Mima was, our Dad was faithful to keep us entertained with these long rides, and his favorite music, especially Johnny Cash.

  • I concur with the opinion of her doing a better version than Johnny Cash...don't get me wrong Johnny Cash has a great voice and I like a lot of his work, not just because of his voice but his songwriting as well..Real Artistry involves expressing yourself, your total conscious, subconscious and unconscious awareness into writing music or music and lyrics if you are a musician..but she sounds great with this tune..

  • Great song.

  • Rosanne had a brain tumour. She is OK now.

  • I love this song and in my opinion Rosanne does it better than Johnny , June Carter or anyone else I've heard cover it !

  • @northernchicken, Where is June's cover? I had it at one point in time and I've lost it and have never been able to find it again. Do you have a YouTube link or a CD title?

  • Whew...She's NOT deceased!!

  • Oh Snap!! I didn't know Roseanne had left us!! I'm in shock!!! What happened?

  • For some reason I cannot stop crying. I want them both back.

  • @onebaud I miss Johnny a lot

I feel ya. I grew up listening to him

  • Truth but where there at (Johnny & June), they ain't wantin' to come back :-)

  • this song just makes your foot start tapping...great song.

  • I was thrilled to find this on YouTube -- Thank you!

  • what a melodius song thanx

  • I wish she held the note a little longer into the guitar-I guess I like her voice. She did her father proud with this release, I think. My mom and dad loved Johnny Cash-jesus, Im getting old :)

  • Little known fact, when she recorded this song, she did not know Johhny had released it, and they did not tell her until after the album was made.

  • This song makes me think of my father. It is one of his faves. I'm 32 and i remebr when this was new ...

  • Saw her on colbert this morning and had to listen to this song. Reminds me of my childhood.

  • It's so catchy and classic! She did a great re-make and unlike most children that try to re-make their singing parents music, she stuck to the real thing and I love this song!

  • @sabrinaellis77 actually she didn't know that it was her father's song till AFTER she had recorded this version. May be it was in her blood.

  • @eddvoss That's interesting! I think you're right, was just in her blood :)

  • @sabrinaellis77 Well of course it was. I mean, how could the blood of Johnny Cash flow in your veins and you NOT be an excellent musician?
