Rosanne, thank you for shaking my hand tonite at the end of your concert. I loved your Dad, The Carter Family and June. Am wondering now if you were there at the concert several (many?) years ago in Denver when your Dad sand with June and The Carter Family.....I think Carlene was there, and I was fortunate to see her several years ago as a warm-up act at Fiddlers Green (now Comfort Dental Amphitheater) . I love you! Can't wait to read your book! My dtr loved you, too! God Bless!
LOL, everyone has a right to there opinion and it doesnt make the "retarded" or stupid. Personally i looove this song however, some people may not. Get over it.
@larrygentry I quoted as i read it,, "Stupidity is far more dangerous than evil, for evil takes a break from time to time, stupidity does not." - Jefferson
"Any fool can know. The point is to understand" - Albert Einstein
I will stop attributing it to him, even though it is a very Jeffersonian quote
@terrafirma91 Thank you for sharing that with us; it adds an extra *special* touch to this great song. I really admire the clarity in her voice, and the instruments are well balanced giving it a unique locomotive-like rhythm. Well done!
Tennessee Flat Top Box" is a song written and recorded by American country music singer Johnny Cash. It was released as a single in late 1961, reaching #11 on the Billboard country singles charts and #84 on the pop charts.[1]
The song is a story of a little boy aspiring to be a country singer, which starts his career in a local cabaret at a little Texan border town. He is not the stock of scholar or physical work aptitude, but he is a good guitar player.

It sure is nice hearing the original version of this song. I remember hearing this played by her at Schwenkstock (Philadelphia Folk Fest) in 1997. Thanks for posting.
It is supposed to have been that Rosanne did not realize this was her Dad's song when she recorded it, and believed it to be in the public domain. Johnny took a full-page ad in the Nashville paper, advising her of copyright infringement. It was rather tongue-in-cheek. Is it me, or wouldn't that be a great way of promoting his daughter's recording a little bit? ;) He was a brilliant man, and Rosanne is brilliant in her own right.
I hope that I can here Rosanne play this in concert one day soon. And how I wish I could of heard the original in 1961 by Johhny. It was not until recently that I learned that Mr. Cash was the original of this song. Both he and his daughter; Rosanne play this with feeling that continues long after the track ends. Thank you Rosanne for sharing with us this heart felt song.
I loved this song when it came out!! I was only 12 or so I think, but it was the first non pop song that was NEW at the time that I thought was SOOO cool. I love the guitar part too. I didn't realize then that it was her daddy's song first. Her voice is so pretty and so is she. :)
@IGOROZKARSKY Today would have been my brother Ricky's 43rd birthday. This was his favorite song so I posted it on Facebook. He was mentally retarded (the word was used in the 70s and 80s and has been replaced with disabled or handicapped). Use of the word "retarded" in the context you used is hurtful and shows your ignorance. The irony in your statement and my brother's liking of the song is, however, delicious.
It is hard to believe but Rosanne did not know her father wrote this song. When it became a hit for her she thought it was in the public domain and did not know her dad had the rights. Johnny said he was so happy for her success all that rights stuff did not matter one whit.

@northernchicken, Where is June's cover? I had it at one point in time and I've lost it and have never been able to find it again. Do you have a YouTube link or a CD title?
I wish she held the note a little longer into the guitar-I guess I like her voice. She did her father proud with this release, I think. My mom and dad loved Johnny Cash-jesus, Im getting old :)
It's so catchy and classic! She did a great re-make and unlike most children that try to re-make their singing parents music, she stuck to the real thing and I love this song!

I wish she held the note a little longer into the guitar-I guess I like her voice. She did her father proud with this release, I think. My mom and dad loved Johnny Cash-jesus, Im getting old :)

Little known fact, when she recorded this song, she did not know Johhny had released it, and they did not tell her until after the album was made.

Saw her on colbert this morning and had to listen to this song. Reminds me of my childhood.

It's so catchy and classic! She did a great re-make and unlike most children that try to re-make their singing parents music, she stuck to the real thing and I love this song!

@sabrinaellis77 actually she didn't know that it was her father's song till AFTER she had recorded this version. May be it was in her blood.

@eddvoss That's interesting! I think you're right, was just in her blood :)

@sabrinaellis77 Well of course it was. I mean, how could the blood of Johnny Cash flow in your veins and you NOT be an excellent musician?
