ive been wondering, does the floyd rose fuck up the tone or whatever compared to a standard? cause i was thinking of putting a floyd on my les paul but i don't want my tone getting fucked up

@nuclear1250 - apparently it does effect the tone so a lot of the pros have been adding titanium blocks to the base of the bridge. I'm not sure us mere mortals can tell the difference. A cheaper way to get a Floyd-enabled LP is to go for one of those $700 ESP LTDs.

So people, I live in New Zealand but I am subscribed to Total Guitar, Guitarist magazine and Guitar Techniques and I saw the review on the LP axcess last month. Now i've played LP's before but never wanted to own 1 because I didn't want to spend 3000NZD+ on a guitar that has flaws, like the heel, versatility issues(no Fr). But the axcess seems to correct these imperfections but I cant play one since there aren't any in NZ. Is it unwise to purchase one before playing it?

The LP Axcess is a complete redesign of the Les Paul Standard. Its neck angle, neck contour, and weight are all unique. I find that although this guitar has a Floyd Rose its not necessarily in the best position. So to answer your question, its a beautiful instrument but I would try and play one first.

Hi EndangeredSoup, I don't own an Axcess just yet but i've played a few of them in shops, they were all set up amazingly, the action was super low with no buzzing notes, just superb,

as far as the guitar goes playability wise, they are a dream to play and sound incredible,

what I would suggest is try a standard les paul if you can find one, just to see if an LP is for you, then try a few guitars with a floyd rose,

if you like the feel of the LP and floyd rose, then you'll love the Axcess

this guitar is perfect for me, i love les pauls, i love fr's, and one thing i complained a lot about les paul's is the horrible fret access at the higher frets... the only thing is THIS GUITAR IS $3500!!! :(

As for keeping a Floyd in tune... i've owned around a dozen FR equipped guitars... this system is by far the best for staying in tune. No issues at all with the FR system. Needs to be set up and maintained propperly just like ANY ohter bridge.

Yeah Floyd Rose systems are awesome! Seems like the people that don't like them are either: (a) used to playing les paul style guitars, or (b) don't get them professionally set up. Mine stays in tune for about a week and a half before I need to retune it! The LP Axcess is incredible...if only I had the money....

Its definitely pricey but if you compare the price to a US made custom shop Jackson or Suhr then its pretty consistent with what others are charging. Also, I gotta say..this guitar is beautiful. It also is not a Standard with a Floyd. Its really an entirely new design .

Gibson is a professional guitar company, I think what they're doing sucks but on the other hand is the right thing. The MSRP is super high, but ebay they are reasonable, $1900 or so. Problem is everytime one is on ebay it is sold quick. I would imagine they are 3K + retail which is too much!

Thanks man! Line 6 definitely does a good Leppard sound and I think mostly because Phil has somewhat of a processed tone. If you really want Phil's sound you need to get a Marshall JMP-1 tube pre-amp.
