Timeline: The Miracles did the song first in mid-1960, the Supremes (or Primettes) did it that December, this version was recorded in 1970 with just Wanda (and the Andantes). I prefer Wanda's version over the other two.
@srercrcr Okay, so the word "hit" may have been a wrong word choice - they all disbanded by 1969, even though their singles were being released through January of 1971-
Actually a Wanda solo but eventually the album titled "Wanda Rogers" became "The Return of the Marvelettes." This is a wonderful performance, full of feeling and sensitivity and nuance. No wonder Smokey loved Wanda's talent.
the Supemes version was the first and this was during the early sixties. By the time the Marvelettes got a hold to this song it was some years later when productions of songs got better and this song tailored for Wanda's voice with the Adantes singing background with the group. AND, the Supremes were young teens when they made that song so I enjoy hearing their innocense in their singing. This version of course is better.
This is classic. Much better than The Supremes' version - despite Flo's powerful, strong start to the song, Mary's sweet lead and Barbara's great little part and Diana's cooing. The production is just a world apart =)
It's like a new song altogether. The production on The Supremes' version sounds so stingy and disgusting compared to this carefully crafted classic. The vocals are real nice on this and Wanda sounds real smooth =P
I agree. I was disappointed when I heard the Supremes' original but I can't blame them, they were KIDS when they recorded it. But Wanda definitely took it to another level as did the Funk Brothers and Andantes here. Again, Motown had some of the BEST grooves!
This is one of Wanda's best. The song "Forever" is a high quality song, but I like this one as well. Wanda, where ever you are, please let us know you are all right!
Wanda Rogers sounds great on this song and the version of this song sounds so great. I never heard this cut before. She takes it to another place. Too bad she didn't stick with performing after the Marvelettes split.
Eeeey!!! OMG! I can't believe I didn't stumble upon this faster!! This is great!! I LOVE IT!! Wanda is great!! I have to do a cover of this song!!! It's so soulful and passionate!!
No problem!! Wow! Really! This is great Stuff!! This is the first time that I've actually heard REAL SOUL from a (60s) Motown Girl Group!! Even though it's the Andantes in the background it's great!
This is the first time you've heard "real soul" from a Motown girl group? Really? What have you been listening to? Lol Anyway, this is a great cut. By far IMO the best version of this song.
Best female voice @Motown. Hands down. Wanda sang soulful and no one else had her talent. Not Ms. Ross fir sure.

i love both the wanda's version and the supremes version for different reasons. supremes is more innocent and wanda's is more for the grown folks!
