looks like they cut a notch on the side of the tunnels to make them fit- or let a couple of double stacks be put in the middle of a mty coal train and let them grind a notch in the tunnels.
In your description it say that "This is the first double stack train ever to cross the Sierras" The Southern Pacific ran double stacks over Donner many years ago, But stopped because the the height on the trailers became high. Now the UP can run these double stacks because of the work they have done on the tunnels. Good video though!!
Excellent video! Imagine if the Southern Pacific had upgraded their tunnels back in the 80s and were able to run doublestacks and triple-deck autoracks, they might have still been in business today.
Fabulous ! Thanks for posting this. I see you had your elves helping you again . . Varied viewpoints outstanding. Luv that west T-1 . . Is the full trip available for purchase ?
Nice work. It appears in some cases they merely chipped the corners out of the tunnels. I suppose in the case of the Big Hole they lowered the floor - is that right?

@ohiosouthern SP never ran true double stacks over Donner Pass.

@meccaturbo Actually they did. They always ran Double Stack trains "double stacked". They stopped though when the containers got too large.

Yuba Gap is the location were the City of San Francisco streamliner was snowbound in 1952.
The GGRM has a Railway Post Offic from that same train.

They should shut down the Feather River Canyon, that way the Western Pacific Railroad Museum can turn it into a tourist route.
