Well,in August 1944 they used FW 190 A-8 and BF 109 G-6/G-6 /AS and G-14.The only old 109 used in 1944 were some Bf 109 T-2(variant which was to operate from aircraft carriers) used by Jasta Helgoland(attached to JG 11) until January 1944.

It takes DOZENS of hits to destroy a plane just like These Bf ´s, not a single .50cal. Not to mention you must aim 30-40-50meters in front of the plane to make a hit...

For Those who don´t know the history of Bf-109... Bf´s are moving too fast to see enough details, but many people under me wrote that These are Bf-109E and They are right. Aaand here´s the problem. In 1944 Bf-109E was at least 2 years at the airplane graveyard, and in 1944 It also wouldn´t have stand a chance againts current enemy planes (hope I wrote it right, I hate english past times:) Only very old models of Bf-109 had square ends of the wings, later models had round ends...

The shiny ball look a bit like what the bomber crews reported sometimes after mission - not knowing if it was a new german wonder-weapon to distract them. Remember that luftwaffe tested radio-guided rockets at the end of the war...
It's only... I mean the say it's in 1944, but the 109s attacking are 'emils' from 1940. That's an important stuff they should have considered... where are the mw50 boosted messerschmitts of the late war years?
All of this kind of stuff could be so much better if the CGI wasn't totally overdone and over animated, where it's all flapping around like seagulls and ends up cartooney. One movie that got it right was the aircraft sequences in Flags of our fathers, they actually looked real.
To be fair to the producers, this movie has really nothing to do with WW2 and the actual planes that flew in certain campaigns. For propelling the story (of which this was a minor three minute segment of the whole) the craft used were appropriate enough. This was a sci fi adventure..... not a World At War documentary. Heck! It's not even Saving Private Ryan.

It's not a documentary - just entertainment for children. FYI the Luftwaffe after 1942 began a continual and steady decline, becoming increasingly outnumbered, short of replacement aircraft, pilots and fuel. Courage is not enough without the logistics to back it up.

Actually now I think about it in the book Bodenplatte: The Luftwaffe's last hope a single Bf 109E was used due to a lack of aircraft!! But the E was out in winter of 41-42 and the Bf 109F was gone by October 1942
yes the bf-109 G6 could be fitted with gunpods on the wings and were used mostly on bomber formations which the LW was obessed with, other than the FW-190d and me-262a and a few i forgot, they built their planes to be bomber busters instead of fighters
Nothing new: americans can't make good war movies anymore. During the seventies u.s. movies were well done, historically corrected and respectful of the enemy (at least of the brave soldiers). Now you just can guess why did them produce the p-51, since every gunner in every fortress in every combat usually shots down five Me-109. The only realistic things are those funny lights at the end of the track.
"Gunners, give them short bursts when they're in range. Don't waste ammunition" ..... Hmmmm ... I'm surprised they didn't give 'him' a short burst. Gunners getting kills like that? Not likely. Using basic reflector sights, scoring hits in that sort of air-to-air combat with hand-operated machine guns is extremely difficult. The 8th's losses were apalling up until the introduction of long-range drop tanks for escort fighters.

It's only... I mean the say it's in 1944, but the 109s attacking are 'emils' from 1940. That's an important stuff they should have considered... where are the mw50 boosted messerschmitts of the late war years?

All of this kind of stuff could be so much better if the CGI wasn't totally overdone and over animated, where it's all flapping around like seagulls and ends up cartooney. One movie that got it right was the aircraft sequences in Flags of our fathers, they actually looked real.

To be fair to the producers, this movie has really nothing to do with WW2 and the actual planes that flew in certain campaigns. For propelling the story (of which this was a minor three minute segment of the whole) the craft used were appropriate enough. This was a sci fi adventure..... not a World At War documentary. Heck! It's not even Saving Private Ryan.

but the 109 was not a very tough plane .50 cal ammo in short burst could take down a 109 i would not say the same for the Fw-190 which could take some hits

It's not a documentary - just entertainment for children. FYI the Luftwaffe after 1942 began a continual and steady decline, becoming increasingly outnumbered, short of replacement aircraft, pilots and fuel. Courage is not enough without the logistics to back it up.

Actually now I think about it in the book Bodenplatte: The Luftwaffe's last hope a single Bf 109E was used due to a lack of aircraft!! But the E was out in winter of 41-42 and the Bf 109F was gone by October 1942

yes the bf-109 G6 could be fitted with gunpods on the wings and were used mostly on bomber formations which the LW was obessed with, other than the FW-190d and me-262a and a few i forgot, they built their planes to be bomber busters instead of fighters

Nothing new: americans can't make good war movies anymore. During the seventies u.s. movies were well done, historically corrected and respectful of the enemy (at least of the brave soldiers). Now you just can guess why did them produce the p-51, since every gunner in every fortress in every combat usually shots down five Me-109. The only realistic things are those funny lights at the end of the track.

The mini-series this clip came from is called "Taken", about different generations of two families being abducted by aliens for genetic manipulation. This clip has to do with the "foo fighters". The show had some really disturbing scenes but a very interesting story. Well worth watching.

Gunners getting kills like that? Not likely. Using basic reflector sights, scoring hits in that sort of air-to-air combat with hand-operated machine guns is extremely difficult. The 8th's losses were apalling up until the introduction of long-range drop tanks for escort fighters.
