U2 just brings back great memories of my first band, good stuff! If you have time, click on my name to check my channel and original songs, especially the songs called Lady Gray and In the Neighborhood (this one is slow so give it a full listen before judging), thx!!!
I feel for my L.A.P.D. They have to keep order, and they do a great job doing so, especially when they issue beat downs on unsavory elements. Bono's lucky he didn't get a beat down.
Dude the police turned their amps off and then went and turned them back on and finished "Get Back" for the second time. and then didn't ask permission like U2 did. btw i don't have anything against U2
I was trying to compare Beatles rooftop experience with this one. Beatles played "Get Back" second time while police were there (rewatch the video...While they were arguing in the background, they were playing "Get Back")
I was saying "they didnt even have guts to play "get back" again" for U2 :) "Sarcasm" :)
I was one of the fortunate people to be there to witness this video shoot/concert. They started playing much earlier than they had told the radio stations they would. I think they knew they'd get too big of a crowd. For those of us who came early, we got to see a great show and spectacle! The cops did shut it down after we ran out into the street and blocked traffic. I'm pretty sure that's what the band intended to happen all along. Makes for a good video!
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!! I have a $1,000 bet that I can get A Band Called Bert a million views on Youtube for their song 'Summertime' by Xmas 2009.

This was one of U2 best moments. They had a blast playing to the crowd. U2 kind of started underground. but that goodness they didn't stay undergroud. Huge fan and I wish they still had some of their rawness, they had back then... If you love this song you need to check it out Live at Slane Castle (Ireland). Bono's Father had died and he buried him a couple of days before the concert. Everyone in Ireland thought they'd cancel the concert. Bono's intro is full of pain but still in note. He yells out "Shalom, Shalome!" after his intro, meaning "Hello & Goodbye" to his Father. It has to be their best performance of the song EVER!!
I'm a former police employee. I love U2 & this classic video. They would not have been shut down if they had gotten a permit. Freedom of assembly exists YES, but without advance notice, without the city being able to deploy extra cops, this constituted a public nusiance cause of the traffic primarily.
This was a very tame crowd, it probably would not have gotten out of hand. I think they got an advanced permit when they played publically in San Fran in 88 & later in Manhattan...........
U2 hype machine / media manipulation stunt. MAYBE 800 people showed up...would have been a total failure if the cops didn't "shut it down." This band does have a ton of excellent videos.
Uh, you CAN assemble in public places, because that's what public places are for, for people to get together. Besides, U2 was not in or on a public place, they were on top of a building which is private property. The gestapo had no right to make them leave from private property.
you have the rights if you ask the authority to grant you the allowance! you cannot do whatever you want in a "public place" just because it's public.
i can't put my couch there and "assemble" with my neighbours watching tv or anything else because i want so.
but you CAN assemble if you are allowed by a legal permit.
the "gestapo" tried to remove the u2 only because that would free the streets, they were the root of the "problem" (let's call it so,even if i loved this video and the idea )
I met these guys in the lobby of the Westin hotel in Chicago during the early summer of '86. They were there for the Amnesty Int'l concert. Bono: most down to earth and civicly aware rock star on the planet. He was really friendly. He sat down with us nd discussed with 3 people how important human rights were and told us who Amnesty Int'l was.
The '80s were just like today, always against the edge. Give and take as to what's good compared to today. The trick is to enjoy "what is going on now".
U2 was cool, is still cool. But the real ride is the vision and the passion to 'tear down the walls', just like the song implies. Feel it, run it, live it. You only have one chance to live in the flesh.
um..yes i am new to this and well I LOVE this song but did they seriously make this video just like that and people heard aboout it and went to see it..??? just asking lol..
How ironic is that........A song about Heaven sang in the pits of hell......downtown LA. Bono and the guys where visionary way back then too. Talent is something you have to start with......ie "U2".
ey thegreatrobynie te wall came down 9 november 1989 and the cold war ended 26 december 1991 you need to go to scool again and take some history lessons
actually, there is no definite ending date to the cold war. however, the collapse of the soviet union may be looked at as a turning point in American/Russian affairs. and also, the berlin wall did collapse only a few months after the end of reagan's tenure as president, 1991-1989.
Some people are really ignorant. I think they skipped History and never relizwd that the Berlin wall came down during the reagan admin., and the cold war started in the early 60's. I remember the arid drills in school, and I was only 5 when I started school, and that was in the 60's.
I cant remember what I wrote (you) , but after 25 years of world wide reporting on geopolitics, I guess I have earned the right to forget......hang on in there Greatrobyne! No matter who you are
I'm drunk and I started to think about getting a tattoo that reads: where the streets have no names on my arm because my old best friend/ the girl I first had sex with loved U2 and she killed herself last year ..shot herself in the chest.. I dunno what I can do to commemorate her...
oh my god.. i'm sorry.. my friend since this last friday has now lost 4 friends to suicide... not that I'm trying to use that to cheer u up, it's just related
Even if we do come back, and yes we can, we still only have the vivid memories of the life we are in at the moment. The next life, where ever it leads us, maybe even in a newborn child, will make us into people unlike we are now. Upbringing and genetics do make an influence.
One of the best U2 songs, and the greatest trio of songs on The Joshua Tree: I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, With or Without You, and Where the Streets Have No Name

How ironic is that........A song about Heaven sang in the pits of hell......downtown LA. Bono and the guys where visionary way back then too. Talent is something you have to start with......ie "U2".

Man, what i would have given to be there. I feel sorta bad for the cops being made out as the bad guys though, they just did their job.

ey thegreatrobynie te wall came down 9 november 1989 and the cold war ended 26 december 1991 you need to go to scool again and take some history lessons
weedboy20 2 years ago
actually, there is no definite ending date to the cold war. however, the collapse of the soviet union may be looked at as a turning point in American/Russian affairs. and also, the berlin wall did collapse only a few months after the end of reagan's tenure as president, 1991-1989.

franshart,
Some people are really ignorant. I think they skipped History and never relizwd that the Berlin wall came down during the reagan admin., and the cold war started in the early 60's. I remember the arid drills in school, and I was only 5 when I started school, and that was in the 60's.
Opps I gave away my age:)

The cold war started towards the end of World War II when they were dividing the spoils of that war.

jimbowie,
The wall came down in the 80's, when Regan was President, and that's when the cold war ended. Get your facts straight.

I'm drunk and I started to think about getting a tattoo that reads: where the streets have no names on my arm because my old best friend/ the girl I first had sex with loved U2 and she killed herself last year ..shot herself in the chest.. I dunno what I can do to commemorate her...

msav111 2 years ago 2
4 friends? Did he/she ever stop to think that they have a connection to people near them killing themselves?
TacoEqualsFtw 2 years ago
No, there is no apparent connection to suggest that is the case.
