  • lol universal remove this vid from my favourite...only 'universal' version is avaiable

  • i agree...

  • U2 is the best group in the universe and beyond! :-)

  • u2 rocks

  • you should have stopped at best.

  • Sur les toits du Sun Studio à Memphis, ça aurait été géant !

Ce groupe me laisse sans voix ! J'adore

  • This is best best and best and best the best song ever!

  • as long as they sound better than the beatles and they write better tunes po

  • beatle wannabes

  • It's U2 - nothing more to say about it!!!!!!! U2 ROCKS!

  • we are shuting the location down

  • frickin awesome

  • U2 just brings back great memories of my first band, good stuff! If you have time, click on my name to check my channel and original songs, especially the songs called Lady Gray and In the Neighborhood (this one is slow so give it a full listen before judging), thx!!!

  • I love u2!

    Was this real?

    Some one respond!

  • Yes, it's real.

  • I love u2!

    Was this real?

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • The location is now a tailor shop :)

  • Greatest live song. You feel like your flying.

  • Oh my goodness!!!! That is exactly what i have always said. Specially on the intro....

  • is that a Wordpress shirt at 2:14 ?

  • WTF!!!

  • lol i think it is!

  • By the way, of course they knew they'd be shut down. It was a publicity stunt.

Also, what we hear here is not live, but the studio track. The crowd noise is overdubbed.

  • derr

  • I feel for my L.A.P.D. They have to keep order, and they do a great job doing so, especially when they issue beat downs on unsavory elements. Bono's lucky he didn't get a beat down.

  • Oh wow this is such an original idea! WAIT!!! NO IT"S NOT!!! this is basically a copy of the Beatles rooftop concert!

  • They didnt even have guts to play "Get back" again for the "police" as they are not there (if u know what i mean)

  • Dude the police turned their amps off and then went and turned them back on and finished "Get Back" for the second time. and then didn't ask permission like U2 did. btw i don't have anything against U2

  • my mistake, i didnt write open enough.

I was trying to compare Beatles rooftop experience with this one. Beatles played "Get Back" second time while police were there (rewatch the video...While they were arguing in the background, they were playing "Get Back")

I was saying "they didnt even have guts to play "get back" again" for U2 :) "Sarcasm" :)

  • 2:24 LMAO

  • I was one of the fortunate people to be there to witness this video shoot/concert. They started playing much earlier than they had told the radio stations they would. I think they knew they'd get too big of a crowd. For those of us who came early, we got to see a great show and spectacle! The cops did shut it down after we ran out into the street and blocked traffic. I'm pretty sure that's what the band intended to happen all along. Makes for a good video!

  • masters of the spectacle

  • Imagine if Bono fell off the roof.

    That would have been awesome

  • Indeed :)

I like their songs but man..."Bono"...What a hypocrite.

  • they played that song about four times before they pulled the plug

  • i would be quite angry if announce were talking about my neighborhood like that. the songs amazing

  • if Bono makes a youtube account it should be called U2be

  • where the streets have no name, best city in the world

  • when was this?

  • the eighties

  • 86 or 87 probably

  • It was a Beatles roof top moment, but they should have cut straight to the damn song without that pointless build up of folks on the radio and cops talking shit

    Play the frickin song

  • Was this a mime?

  • Reminds me just a *little* of the Beatles.

  • Comment removed

  • this song is a musical orgasm!

  • I saw in a movie theater here in Ecuador, one of his concerts! I was really impressed!

    Wonderful music!

    Thanks for sharing!

    Gaby.

  • only thing the beatles have in common with U2 is there was 4 of them.U2 are different class!

  • great stunt

  • lip synching ?...no!!..ever heard of video editing....can u imagine the background noise if they actually used this scene as their music vid...u wouldn't hear a damn thing.....the point of the vid is missed if u can only focus on if it's lip synched or not....damn great video....

  • Great video. I wonder if they were thinking of the Beatles rooftop concert before they did this? The two bands are a lot alike.

  • THE BEST ABUNES are AGHTUNG BABY and THE JOSHU TREE

my favorites albums U2 IS THE BEST BAND OF THE WORLD

    MANY GREETINGS SINCE PERU-Arequipa

y QUE VIVA U2 PARA SIEMPRE

U2 TOUR 360º LIVE IN THE WORLD 2009-2010

  • I love this song

  • blackberry owns u2.

  • what a blast!!

HAD to be lypsynched though, that makes me a little sad. I thought they were above that.

  • I think they performed it live in reality, but to the music video they used the original song.

  • Wow its just lag...not lip synching genius! FAIL!

  • Love U2, a lot of the youger generation don't realize the laws they broke by doing this. Bands now days don't have the BALLS to get away with something like this LOVE they are on tour now, 360 TOUR.

  • amazing. everytime i see or hear something like this i feel cheated because i never got to experience the 70's or 80's. U2 is awesome! it was a wonderful idea to make this the music video too.

  • i still have to disagree. the majority the music I listen to is from the 80's. i love every second of it. =3

  • it starts at 2:40 guys. JEEZ that has a long beggining

  • ok,ok,ok, i was kidding. gee whiz. i've been listening to u2 since Boy.(when i was 16). great music, but really liked their early stuff better than now.

  • i still can't believe its been more than 20 years since this album came out.

when i first heard the Joshua Tree is literally changed my taste in music. gone was listening to crap 80s' bubble gum pop. i'd discovered a band that had amazing lyrics and music that gave my goosebumps...to this day when i heard Bullet the Blue Sly Edge's guitar solo still sends shivers up and down my spine.

    i love this band!

  • U2 or youtube????? U2 definitely is better they had the guts to sing on a rooftop and was willing to get arrested

  • I remember this America. This was the proverbial good old days before every pig in the country had a tazer and was using them left right and center on anyone that didn't "respect their authoritah".

    I miss those days.

  • How cool was this?

  • nice video....what ever happened to these one-hit wonders???

  • One hit wonder??? U2 was a huge band in the late 80's and 90's and today... Bono??? GREAT BAND...

  • one-hit wonders?? you must be younger than generation X.

these guys are like 25 hit wonders! been together for like 25 years and have more hits than you can count! god, i remember seeing them in concert on the Actung Baby tour and the whole show was nothing but amazing timeless mind-blowing songs.

if you don't appreciate U2 i feel sorry for you, you're clearly culturally deprived.

  • some people don't respond well to sarcasm

  • Jayzus !

  • wow... the edge had hair then...

  • I still like this version better, but it was certainly good....

  • Good tip, I'll check that version out

  • One of my favourite video's. Kind of raw and it would have been incredible to be there....

  • This was one of U2 best moments. They had a blast playing to the crowd. U2 kind of started underground. but that goodness they didn't stay undergroud. Huge fan and I wish they still had some of their rawness, they had back then... I know bands change, it's not that I still love thier music. they just had the energy that is had to explain. it just wasn't the group U2... other groups had some of the same energy. when mtv did show viedos it was great. mor vids like theis mtv -

  • Today is 7tth and Main street located in a rough neiborhood?

  • NO, LOL

  • If you love this song you need to check it out Live at Slane Castle (Ireland). Bono's Father had died and he buried him a couple of days before the concert. Everyone in Ireland thought they'd cancel the concert. Bono's intro is full of pain but still in note. He yells out "Shalom, Shalome!" after his intro, meaning "Hello & Goodbye" to his Father. It has to be their best performance of the song EVER!!

  • One of my favorite U2 videos. Bono looked like he was having the time of his life!

  • My birthday is may 10 which is when you posted. Bono's birthday is may 10. is that why you posted it on the date? if not. great timing!

  • I just think its amazing how a group of 4 people can get such attention and stuff... Amazing...

  • I'm a former police employee. I love U2 & this classic video. They would not have been shut down if they had gotten a permit. Freedom of assembly exists YES, but without advance notice, without the city being able to deploy extra cops, this constituted a public nusiance cause of the traffic primarily.

This was a very tame crowd, it probably would not have gotten out of hand. I think they got an advanced permit when they played publically in San Fran in 88 & later in Manhattan...........

  • Fabulous! Probably the most real & dynamic event in LA,, ever! U2 rocked! Hell yeah! Great video . . . thanks Trabbie!

  • The best video, from the Best album of all Time.

    Numero uno forever

    peace out the dj

  • These were the best years for U2. The Joshua Tree was without a doubt their best album and it really was the one that made them what they are today.

  • It's true, but i like this so.

    Forever Beatles and forever U2.

  • This is a powerful music video. I'm not sure why it is, but it inspires me!

  • U2 hype machine / media manipulation stunt. MAYBE 800 people showed up...would have been a total failure if the cops didn't "shut it down." This band does have a ton of excellent videos.

  • This is the studio version...

  • toaster stroodles

  • who dosent likeu2 omg wat a fuking band......fecking lovin it come on eire

  • Crazy mammals.

  • HAAAAAAAAAAAA..! What a show..! Freedom speaks out to America from Americans to Americans..! *UNITY* Do you feel the it..

  • did you know the U2 band members aren't american?

  • Really..

  • super lol XD!

  • Uhmm and you are just now figuring this out? LOL

  • Not sure if you are serious or not, but most of the legendary rock bands are not American.

  • Ireland is it??

  • well... The band is Irish, but the video takes place in LA

  • where the streets have no name? hell yes!

  • Freedom of assembly! Enjoy the 1st amendment! Don't the the dumbfuck cops beat you down.

  • Uh, you CAN assemble in public places, because that's what public places are for, for people to get together. Besides, U2 was not in or on a public place, they were on top of a building which is private property. The gestapo had no right to make them leave from private property.

  • you have the rights if you ask the authority to grant you the allowance! you cannot do whatever you want in a "public place" just because it's public.

i can't put my couch there and "assemble" with my neighbours watching tv or anything else because i want so.

but you CAN assemble if you are allowed by a legal permit.

the "gestapo" tried to remove the u2 only because that would free the streets, they were the root of the "problem" (let's call it so,even if i loved this video and the idea )

  • I met these guys in the lobby of the Westin hotel in Chicago during the early summer of '86. They were there for the Amnesty Int'l concert. Bono: most down to earth and civicly aware rock star on the planet. He was really friendly. He sat down with us nd discussed with 3 people how important human rights were and told us who Amnesty Int'l was.

  • this song to me is hope incarnate...if you can't be uplifted and inspired by this, then you have no soul..

  • Amazing song from a amazing band....

  • beatles did this decade before U2. Bono is as original as Friday 13th part 11.

  • haha... good one.. lol!

  • penosa...

  • Pinches policias culeros !!! Este video esta chingón la verdad !!! U.K. Rulez !!

  • shit use police

  • One of the best videos ever., for one of the best songs ever! not to mention one of the best Album's EVER. IMO...

Still want to know for sure if the video was staged, or are the cops actual cops?

  • they are real cops

  • thanks :)

  • burn syrus

  • Word. Buddy.

  • 1:51 top right corner... TINY GUY! :D

  • Hah!

  • fucking cops.

  • you are? or... who?

  • ..?

  • they were only doing there job :S I'm sure they all like U2

  • Man I miss the 80's and 90's The world was so much better then. The world has gone to shit now.

  • Yeah with all the race riots and the gulf war etc.

Face it, the worlds always been shit.

  • im 14 and i wish i had lived in the 80s. haha

  • The '80s were just like today, always against the edge. Give and take as to what's good compared to today. The trick is to enjoy "what is going on now".

U2 was cool, is still cool. But the real ride is the vision and the passion to 'tear down the walls', just like the song implies. Feel it, run it, live it. You only have one chance to live in the flesh.

  • um..yes i am new to this and well I LOVE this song but did they seriously make this video just like that and people heard aboout it and went to see it..??? just asking lol..

  • Haha. Is that Weird Al dancing at 3:36? :)

  • lol

  • Fucking Pigs!

  • How ironic is that........A song about Heaven sang in the pits of hell......downtown LA. Bono and the guys where visionary way back then too. Talent is something you have to start with......ie "U2".

  • Man, what i would have given to be there. I feel sorta bad for the cops being made out as the bad guys though, they just did their job.

  • oh no overexited U2 fans what are they going to do Feed hungry children? well I can't wait to see their new 360 concert

  • i love the fun police ,should have thrown the cop of the roof

  • ey thegreatrobynie te wall came down 9 november 1989 and the cold war ended 26 december 1991 you need to go to scool again and take some history lessons

  • actually, there is no definite ending date to the cold war. however, the collapse of the soviet union may be looked at as a turning point in American/Russian affairs. and also, the berlin wall did collapse only a few months after the end of reagan's tenure as president, 1991-1989.

  • franshart,

Some people are really ignorant. I think they skipped History and never relizwd that the Berlin wall came down during the reagan admin., and the cold war started in the early 60's. I remember the arid drills in school, and I was only 5 when I started school, and that was in the 60's.

Opps I gave away my age:)

  • I cant remember what I wrote (you) , but after 25 years of world wide reporting on geopolitics, I guess I have earned the right to forget......hang on in there Greatrobyne! No matter who you are

  • The cold war started towards the end of World War II when they were dividing the spoils of that war.

  • jimbowie,

The wall came down in the 80's, when Regan was President, and that's when the cold war ended. Get your facts straight.

  • figocooldude,

What are you talking about Bono wrote the song you morron!

  • omg i was there lol

  • greatest music video...ever...

  • This song is incredible!! I love the open

  • back when U2 still kicked ass

  • questo si che è un video...perchè cantare sul tetto di uno studio è da grandi nella storia della musica...proprio come i " Beatles"!!!!

  • yeah smart, OMG

  • I'm drunk and I started to think about getting a tattoo that reads: where the streets have no names on my arm because my old best friend/ the girl I first had sex with loved U2 and she killed herself last year ..shot herself in the chest.. I dunno what I can do to commemorate her...

  • do that man

  • oh my god.. i'm sorry.. my friend since this last friday has now lost 4 friends to suicide... not that I'm trying to use that to cheer u up, it's just related

  • 4 friends? Did he/she ever stop to think that they have a connection to people near them killing themselves?

  • No, there is no apparent connection to suggest that is the case.

  • Even if we do come back, and yes we can, we still only have the vivid memories of the life we are in at the moment. The next life, where ever it leads us, maybe even in a newborn child, will make us into people unlike we are now. Upbringing and genetics do make an influence.

  • the drummer looks like Duke Nukem

  • One of the best U2 songs, and the greatest trio of songs on The Joshua Tree: I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, With or Without You, and Where the Streets Have No Name

  • one of the best songs ever..

  • Kellie, this one is for you :) Yeah you

  • Can't we all get along?
