Edgar is one of the few white guys who really has the blues in him, and so does his brother Johnny. One other guy from Texas who had em too, Stevie Ray Vaughn!!!
Is there anything better than an SG and a stack of Marshalls and a guitar player who can play backing up one of the best players this country has ever seen. Actually great band!
The best band I ever saw was up in some back st. bar in idaho Falls, Id. One at a time , in the middle of a song, they set down their instruments till it was all vocals!! It didn`t even sound like they had set them down! it was a sight to see, I wish I could remember the name of that band!
This is EPIC!!!! Both Edgar & Johnny Winter are playing Blues Fest in Kitchener next month. I was excited before, but after watching this, I'm absolutely ECSTATIC!
@ThePowerWithinMe I got to "hear" Edgar at the festival Saturday but couldn't get anywhere close to seeing him since the tent had a spillover crowd. I did get a great view of Johnny that day though as he played in another tent.
This song needs a qualifier to explain that you need to set your Volume Control to "Move The House" level before kicking it "Old School" with Edgar and Company.
When i saw the sax on his hands, i thought "nooo, he wont play it, no way. too much talent for a single guy". this mother fucker not only played the sax, but also reduced it and my mind to shreds
i dont care if the guitar sounds to metal like somebody mention.kid is great!!!trying doing what his doing and in front of all that people without missing a note!! i am tired of blue natzis critisicing everybody that is different.they are great guitar players in every kind of music.if that guy is playing with Edgar is because is great!!
this version sounds as good as-if not-better than the "Roadwork" LP.....when it was Edgar Winters White Trash with his brother , Rick Derringer, Bobby Caldwell and a bunch of other top musicians...ROCK ON Edgar!!!!!!
last time I saw Edgar ...he opened for Jethro Tull in August 2003..Big Flats NY......the musical genius of Tull is always present..even after Ian's voice got weak...but Edgar blew me away.....I hadn't seen him live in 15 years....and I got to speak to him after his set...he was signing autographs promoting the "Winter Blues" CD....AMAZING as he ever was
I saw Edgar on March 8th, 1984 (my 24th b-day) in a small bar in Nordeast Minneapolis called The Union. He was so wasted that when the session was over it took two roadies to lead him outta the bar. I fired up a number when he did "Tobacco Road"... Good times back in the day.
WOW greatesrt song ever made even better a simple song made so much much much more im amazed incredible this is why youtube is amazing i never could have a seen this with out it wow
to Dean Lisi -- I guess you must be young ("...the bit is way too long getting boring..."). Back when this song was originally recorded (Roadwork by Edgar Winter and the White Trash) it was 18 minutes long. It was not uncommon for songs (rock, metal, blues, prog) to go for 10 - 30 minutes. Everyone today wants 3 - 4 minutes, then switch gears. Must be ADD...

@Necroman666 Quite! they are some 'longevity Albino bro's' too...albinos have a myriad of health problems and poor eyesight...Edgar is one talented Ma-fa! His brother too!
@buchananstreet Both brothers came through Dallas this summer and sounded as grand as always. I saw them at Wood Stock when they were gettin started good and they sounded just as good. To me, they have....sorry
Awsome. White Trash Live was the best by far. Long Live the Winters. I have met them both and Johnny signed 4 lp's for me. Something I will always cherrish. Peace Imij.
Edgar should be a legend to all......bro Johnny too......one of the greatest american musicians of any style, any era..........a legend to me anyway he will remain
Oh yes, obviously, I mean I have played shows too... But still, you can't play everything exactly the same way you rehearsed it, especially that singing-guitar riff tag they did.. and it shows in guitarsist's look on his face. Well that's what I think...
Stupid atheist! Who cares what they believe as long as they make great music! If you dont like a TV show, you can just change the channel, moron! Personally, if they are Jesus freaks, I now like them even better! And last I heard, it is still a free country!
Edgar and Johnny were my favorites for a long time growing up. Edgar is still amazing, Derringer can still play. Both of them are now Jesus freaks. Johnny Winter cannot play any more.
Can't tell if you're being facetious or not, but there certainly isn't enough room to explain here. Suffice it to say that talking about your love of Jesus (as Edgar does) in front of a large, paying crowd of fans (many of whom do not share your religious views) as well as incorporating Jesus into the lyrics of your classic songs (Derringer does this in RR Hootchie Coo) does not serve the music and may alienate some people. Separate music and your religion Edgar and Rick...
Well, Edgar, Rick, and I are all entitled to our beliefs and opinions. Just because someone else doesn't like it doesn't mean we have to stop saying it. Besides, if you don't like what these guys, or myself, are saying, then you could always stop listening.
Yes, you certainly are entitled to your silly beliefs, wah, wah, wah, blah, blah, blah. My point, Mr. Simple, is that Edgar and Rick might lose paying customers for their live shows (most of any touring musician's income these days) because we DON"T share those beliefs and came to hear their music, not their philosophy. So yes, we might stop listening because we paid for music, not a tithing to the church. Must I believe in order to love the music? Or worse, to be allowed to listen?...
Well then I guess that's just too bad for you. Some people can't handle the fact that even though music is a major part of their life, their religion is also. My point, Mr. Bee's wax, is that these performers also have other aspects of their lives to attend to. And if you don't believe in anything, just suck it up and move on. It's not like every single song is based on their beliefs.
Pardon me, Mr. Simpleton, but your "point" is worthless - and so is your opinion in this matter. People should keep their religious opinions to themselves - unless of course you're in church. A person paying to hear music should expect to be entertained, not proselytized to. So please, YOU suck it up and stop acting as if everybody should be expected to make exceptions when it comes to religion. Christ, I'm sick of you people and your useless beliefs.
Excuse me? You're the one who brought up the fact that they were Jesus freaks. If you would have kept those opinions TO YOURSELF, just as you said, this whole conversation (or argument) would never have been started. When you say "you people and your useless beliefs", I think it's useless for you to NOT follow a certain religion. But, once again, people just don't wanna hear it. Whatever...you shouldn't have brought it up.
Yup, I brought up the fact they were Jesus freaks - and then you you asked my opinion! (What's wrong with being a Jesus freak?) And I've been aswering you as requested. I've had enough of this stupid exchange - go preach to the fucking choir....I'm not going to pay to go to the Church of Edgar and Rick....
When you said they were "losing paying customers", they obviously didn't lose you, so therefore you must not know straight facts. If they did lose you, you wouldn't have watched this video. And apparently they haven't been losing ANY money in the past few years because they're still touring and producing new albums. So their religion is not an excuse.
Gee, what a fantastic display of logic. Too bad your conclusions were wrong. Please, all of you religious nuts stop writing me to apprise me of all of your rights - and your assumptions of facts not in evidence. Of course, evidence is a difficult word for believers to deal with...
How are my conclusions wrong? And yes, we do have evidence. You just don't believe it. Haven't you ever heard of faith? Faith doesn't always mean something is fake, it's a test. How do you explain miracles happening? Hmm? Don't tell me you think Earth was created by an explosion from NOTHING.
You must also think global warming is real...ha ha don't even get me started. Scientists are getting overly involved, that's why they are constantly coming up with ridiculous ideas that don't even make sense.
@beeroosterm Excuse me but it was your religious opinion that started this conversation and who was that you prayed to in the last line you wrote here?
It's amazing how this song has evolved over time (and how it didn't). People don't know that Edgar is almost blind. He such a great all around muscian., and one of the great scat singers of all time.
@simpleusername11 I don't know about that, but albinos traditionally have poor eyesight due to having little pigment.Johnny's been near blind for ages.
Agh living proof that you don't need just drums, bass and guitar to rock out. He just has so much stage presence and energy with the crowd. EWG I salute you!
first concert i ever saw, freaking $2.50 at Normandy High school, was edgars white trash in 71 or 72. he sang this but the guitarist was derringer. and the back up band was the blues project. and now that is the school my son goes to. pretty strange. i think about it now and it's like what can kids do now a days for 3 bucks???

Agh living proof that you don't need just drums, bass and guitar to rock out. He just has so much stage presence and energy with the crowd. EWG I salute you!

Watch this all the way through!!! Hot damn. The guitar work is perfect.
Fabulous version of a fabulous song. The Winter brothers are among the best of the best. Anything they do is the best.

first concert i ever saw, freaking $2.50 at Normandy High school, was edgars white trash in 71 or 72. he sang this but the guitarist was derringer. and the back up band was the blues project. and now that is the school my son goes to. pretty strange. i think about it now and it's like what can kids do now a days for 3 bucks???

Great video, saw EWG way back in early 70's several times with Rick Derringer. They were great, and Edgar can still bring it. Rock on brother

Isn't it amazing how someone so white on the outside can be so black, on the inside :-) He sounds just like George Benson, to me!
