If anyone actually visited the park before CF bought it.. it was still a ghost land. That parks downward spiral started WAY before CF bought it. They just stuck in the dagger.. which is what you do in a BUSINESS.
I visited the area the park used to inhabit yesterday. It's such a depressing feeling actually being able to see across the body of water from the front gate. It's been close to 4 years and I'm still not over it. Six Flags might have been just as guilty for Geauga Lakes demise as much as Cedar Fair, but to me at least when they were the owners, though not the same feel as the original Geauga Lake, the park flourished.
Cedar Fair might have been the one to pull the plug on Geauga Lake's life support, but anyone who puts all of the blame on CF is as senile as Kinzel. Six Flags was just as responsible, and if CF hadn't purchased the park when it did, SF would have done the same thing here as they did to AstroWorld in Texas.
this vid is actually from 2001. you can see this cause the dolphins were in the former shamu stadium in that year, also the location of the floating boardwalk.
RIP SFWOA/GEAUGA LAKE! My soul is crushed we will never step foot in that park again, ride those incredible coasters, see the penguins, experience the shows, hear the sounds of this amazing place. This was the best place on earth......... Tears will always be shed over this place. Deeply saddened I cannot share this park with my fiance. It meant so much to me having worked there for several years. Goodbye SFWOA
Geauga Lake closed because Six Flags bought the theme park+water park+sea world+ added 5 roller coasters to the theme park. Apparently, Six Flags lost track of how much money they were spending, and after losing millions the park was sold to Cedar Fair. Cedar Fair was losing money on the park as well due to being close to Cedar Point, so Ceda Fair decided to close the park as well.
Are you serious? They got rid of the park? Im from michigan and I was just thinking about six flags and then when you guys said they were closed that made me sad. Six Flags was GREAT!!! I miss it! And whoever was running the park didnt know shit about managing a park! Did the park close because of the prices were too high and they went bank rupt? What no one ever said why and how.
@MissMarthaMay3288 Cedar Fair bought the park in 2004, and was using it as competition against Kings Island. Kings Island was bought, and Geauga Lake was losing its attendance, so moneywise they closed it down. However if you think of it, they make money from all 3 parks, and if you close one down, people could get mad, and like many people said not go to any of the company's (Cedar Fair) parks. So if you think it through, Cedar Fair is run by idiots.
Kinzel, Hildebrandt, that fat ass Spehn and the whole Cedar Fair Organization can eat shit and die. There greed killed a wonderful place and the only bit of restitution I have is that the real estate they thought was so valuable is worthless and only helping to drag them in the hole even more.
@cornbox185 Listen Cedar Fair didn't ruin Geauga Lake. The business was so scarce that they had to close the roller coaster side. You're lucky they kept the water park you dumbass. Oh and by the way six flags started the decent NOT Cedar Fair.
