This technique has worked well for me for a while. Kids are pretty smart and as they get older I can't tell them that I'm using cold spray. But like I said ,this really works well on my little guys.
im really nervous i have to get mi tooth pulled out in lik 4 days and im so afraid of needles it scares me idk how to get over my fear even with laughing gas
1st thing don't worry about it too much, you will work your self up and make the appointment miserable. 2nd, ask your parents and the dentist about possibly using laughing gas. A patient usually has to move, "A BUNCH" in order to get stuck in the tongue. When you know the injection is coming try to relax and be still knowing that the "poke" will only pinch for a second or two. Last if you are getting a baby tooth out and the adult tooth is under it, it won't be bad at all. You'll be OK!!
@EdmondSmiles I'm fourteen, and I have a tooth growing over another. I need my baby tooth pulled. This shot worries me, because I had a shot go into my tounge a few years ago, and it was very painful. Is there anything that can help me? I'm extremely anxious.
It's a shame that oral surgeons can't take lessons from dentists like you. Rather than concerning themselves with patient comfort and care, they're more concerned about how quickly they can finish a procedure, in an effort to squeeze as many in as possible.
@anebt I apologize didn't see this original reply. Anebt you seem really smart. I like the term re-directing. I dodn't know what I was doing was called re-directing but that makes sense to me. I try to do whatever I can to make my patients feel comfortable in the chair. I do have some adult patients that have phobias so bad that we have to do an IV sedation. I want all the kids I see to have positve experiences so they can carry that through adulthood. Thank you Anebt.
I can't believe you would lie to a kid just to save yourself the trouble of dealing with his anxieties. Instead of facing them and helping him work through it, you just lie about a "cold spray" and never even give him a chance. Horrible buisness practice!
I learned this technique many years ago and it has served me well in my practice. When an older child ask me if they are going to get a shot, I tell them the truth and we talk about it. Personally I have a hard time rationalizing with a 3,4,5 and 6 year old children about getting a shot or injection. If this works for you in your dental practice I sincerely applaud you.
Good Job Doc, that was a really professional response to leighiton. He or She clearly dosen't own a dental practice and clearly he or she doesn't work with kids!!!!
@Futton84 Thank you for your kind words. It is upsetting when I get criticism about a video. I am aware that when you put "it" out there you open youself up to comments. Most of videos are in response to the same questions I am asked multiple times. I'm glad that many people appreciate my videos. This made my day. Thank you!
Dr. Chandler: I wish we had more dentists like You in the world. You did it great, first of all psychologicaly, because the words often are better anaesthetics, than Lidocaine and other drugs, bravoo!!!
I did once injection in my gums then the next...my heart thumping madly and even shaken my hands why this? They had to raise chair for a while they will gone in few mins can anyone explain this why has effects me when injection??
u had that reaction because ur dentist injected the local anesthetic into a blood vessel. The Local anesthetic carpule contains epinephrine..also commonly known as adrenaline. Hence the reaction! The heart thumping...ur hands shaking. This is a common mistake & is nothing to worry about. ur dentist did not aspirate his syringe when injecting. When u aspirate( pull back) the syringe..if you get blood in the carpule then u know that you're in a blood vessel and should change the angle to avoid it
omg if i was her id be ballin my eyes . i hate needles expecially in my mouth i never had one done but i just hate pain in my mouth so i am sure i would !
that seems as if it would work. a little diversion. belive it or not, dentist are not horrible peolple that like to cause pain. i glad you found a technique that helps you get through your appointments.
I remember when i had to have a tooth out and the gave me an injection at the front of my tooth which hurt a little bit and then she said " OK, im going to give you an injection at the back of your tooth now, and it may sting a bit" and as she gave me the injection I nipped the skin really hard inbetween my fingers and i never even felt the needle go in coz my brain got confused between the two pains. She grabbed onto the tooth and before she'd even wiggled it about it fell out :D
The dentists know what there doing, i got teeth pulled and it kinda hurts
